  1. So.. does it mean Sprint will upgrade their network to SVDO/SVLTE? I made this thread from http://s4gru.com/ind..._9675#entry9675 and I got different answers from them lol

Yeah I for the first time got some poor info from that guy on that part which i relayed in that thread...Guy works directly for Qualcomm and used to be closely associated with Sprint's qualcomm's devices but has since switched over to working on VZ's group and testing those at qualcomm...

But for those that want to see the SVDO discussed in the doc its in the main "SAR Test Report" listed there pretty clearly on page 7.

  2. So I always wondered this and i'm sure someone here can answer for me....

after reading this article awhile ago I've always been wondering some things.

    http://www.engadget....le-4g-coverage/

That states that VZ lit up its 200th market with LTE and that they also plan to double the # of markets with it by end of year...so 400 markets by years end...

When I first read it I was shocked by the # stated as its grossly higher than Sprints markets being stated for LTE...So my initial thought was that big red was playing an excellent marketing game stating that each individual city is its own market unlike with Sprint where a market includes multiple cities/areas usually...

I know VZ covers more area than Sprint in general but the # stated just seems grossly high and can't really see how Sprint would be not even 1/4th the markets VZ has....

    Edit:

BUT after seeing VZ's actual list it seems they do combine some markets like Raleigh/Durham...http://news.verizonwireless.com/LTE/Markets.html

whats the explanation for the vast different number of markets i guess is the ? here. Sprint really have less than 1/4 the markets VZ does in the US?

  3. Are there any other lte phones on the market that use a single chipset? Or is HTC really breaking new ground with this? In my house we have a slogan, "4G no batt-ery." Like you already said, hopefully a single chipset helps that reputation.

Its a combination of HTC and Qualcomm breaking ground...really more so Qualcomm than anyone else as its their chip...

  4. Sprint could always buy or license the Evo trademark from HTC, especially if HTC is no longer interested in manufacturing any more Evo devices.

Though HTC doesn't own the term "EVO" by itself from what I saw in my search on the USPTO so technically anyone could use it I guess...though not likely as EVO's by HTC or no one else will be the case...imho

  5. Exactly, there are some people, like myself, that have a ton of premium app purchases on Android. If I were to switch to Apple, I would either have to spend hundreds of dollars to buy those apps from iTunes or go without them.As far as the Evo name, I think a HTC Evo would sell more to current Evo owners, but maybe HTC wants to use their "One" model across the board. Then I think Sprint could sell a lot of OG Evo owners the next Evo even if it is made by Motorola or Samsung, maybe even LG.

doubtful. If its a Moto/LG named EVO then you wont see near as many bought than if it was an HTC device...ppl are loyal to the Device maker more than they are the name of it. Esp when you call a Moto Device an EVO then the customer picks it up and sees it has MotoBlur on it and not Sense...

HTC customers are more loyal to the OEM than the name itself...

HTC is going to shoot itself in the foot with this "One" naming esp in the "X" category as they have already done 2 variants of that with the OneX and OneXL...I guess they could just name Sprint's version the OneXL since itll have the same hardware, BUT the reason I don't see them doing that is there is no way they would hold an event for a device thats already had its own event and been shown a ton...

Also the OneXL for some reason is trimmed to 16GB and I can't fathom Sprint doing that without expanded memory being allowed...So even with that it will be a different name...and I can't see it being something like OneXE...lol

  6. The HTC One variation that makes its way to Sprint should NOT have the "One" name in it, in my opinion. They already are differing b/w the HTC OneX and OneXL with the ATT and world versions...I also Can't see them getting the OneXL(ATT version in a sense) and leaving the name the same...

With that said it only makes sense to use a different name to differ itself from the other Carriers some imho...like they did with the GS2 and such...Whether the One series device uses the EVO name or some unseen ridiculous spec device from HTC has it later, it doesn't matter imho.

the only thing that matters to me is the EVO brand continues and it be with HTC...

  7. Sgt., unless circumstances have changed with the release of the Qualcomm S4 SoCs, SVLTE and SV-DO always require two radio pathways, hence dual modems. If the MSM8960 can actually support SVLTE and SV-DO without a second modem, then that will be a very nice development toward greater simplicity and lower power consumption.AJ

Well you have me there the more I think about it the more I want to question my own thought...

It seems you could infer that the stating the chip "supports" the feature doesn't mean it can do it and all the others at the same time on its own...

If that is the case I would expect the MSM8960 devices to also have the MDM9615 chip along side so they can handle the features...

Now you got me questioning too much. lol

guess we wont know till the JET or whatever is released. lol

  8. Okay now im lost....The MSM8960 clearly supports SVLTE & 1X Advanced...

Why will devices using this chipset need another modem chip to support it?

    page5-6 i think

    www.qualcomm.com/documents/files/snapdragon-s4-processors-system-on-chip-solutions-for-a-new-mobile-age-white-paper.pdf

as far as the iPhoneLTE version I'm going to guess it will be the exact same chipset used in the iPad A5X with the MDM9600 being added in there for the LTE connectivity...Less they make a jump to the MDM9615...

Right. I wouldn't say Retina display is a marketing term though.

Its 90% marketing term at the very least bit...sorry but gotta disagree with you here.

Like Ben stated, when you first have a devices labeled as "Retina Display" b/c of its ppi and then offer a new device with less PPI still naming it "Retina" but trying to toss on the whole "...if you hold it at X distance" angle you loose the scientific validity of the actual thing.

There is a reason why the scientific side of things have never agreed with Apple's term Retina display as shown here:

    http://www.pcworld.c...ay_updated.html

Now I'm not saying the display itself isn't amazing, but the term itself "Retina" is pure marketing....simple as that.

  9. Well this is a slap in the face and I've already sent engadget a "tip" with my complaint...Here is their article:

    http://www.engadget....tion-april-4th/

Where they state in an UPDATE that "TECHNOBUFFALO" has it on good authority saying its going to be the OneX code name "Jet"!!!!

WTF! Whats worse is Engadget ran their own report earlier this week using S4GRU.com saying the same thing....yet now with the invitation out they give credit to another site for it being a OneX variant named Jet...

  10. I'd say first and foremost the Marketing staff is the best in the business...

When you can lure customers in with things like, +70Mbps LTE speeds like they did with the new iPad and get away with it....pure genius...no one else states the technologies theoretical top speed except them...

Also, calling a display "Retina" when its not really more than what the human retina can see was genius...

Without their marketing department they would fail big time as many would realize over time all the features Android has over iOS...

They win in Display and battery life imho...but you gotta figure that only reason their battery life is what it is, is b/c of how basic and simple iOS is compared to other OS's...
