  1. There are tons of similar setups to the one shown in your first link throughout the city. Who do those belong to? Are they ex-MetroPCS, VZW, or are they Clear like you said?

Keep in mind that those enclosures are meant to hide the equipment and make it look uniform, so it's very difficult to tell who's equipment is inside.

The enclosures could be the same for all the carriers.

  2. Wouldn't throwing money at protection sites in Montana get them upgraded sooner?

Wouldn't throwing money at 3G areas like Central/West PA (especially Williamsport, PA, etc.) (or no coverage areas) enable them to get LTE sooner, and not force Sprint to compromise on its deployment by using GMO's?

Both of these situations seem to be due to a shortage of money/funding, and not equipment or permitting delays. Of course, if I'm wrong on this, please set me straight!  :)

Has anyone considered that perhaps those sites are not upgraded because the focus is elsewhere?

  3. Softbank would see profit faster if it actually invested instead of letting Sprint fend for themselves. Sprint is making tremendous progress but not fast enough.

Not really though. Profit isn't a magical number that comes from having money thrown at it. Same goes for Sprint as a company. Throwing money at things won't make sites get upgraded faster, won't get permitting done faster.

  4. Things seemed to have slowed down in expansion generally speaking on Sprint, and actually on T-Mobile too, T4GRU is a ghost town. Sprint drastically reduced CapEx for 2016, and any expansion they do will likely be pushed back to 2017 - right now it's holding pattern style. T-Mobile is still expanding a large amount, but just minimally to get LTE upgrades done and establish minimum service it seems - they're holding on to their money for the 600mhz auction.

Something to keep in mind is that with Sprint's small cell deployment strategy, you won't see crazy updates, rather one morning you'll just get better speeds or perhaps a consistent B41 experience rather than band switching.

  5. No.  T-Mobile cannot "walk away with huge amount of spectrum dirt cheap."  At every level, this auction has a reserve price.  If that reserve price is not met, bids are nullified, and the auction starts again for a smaller amount of spectrum at a lower reserve price.  So, T-Mobile may be able to win a little bit of spectrum for a few billion dollars.  But it is impossible for T-Mobile to win a "huge amount of spectrum" for a few billion dollars.

Try explaining that to the people on the TMobile subreddit.

  6. The only difference i see is my note 5 does have an ipv6 adress and the ZTE pocket wifi does not. Its turned off. I turned it on but it goes back off.

Im on the most current software. I have to put it in lte only mode to even get it to try to connect to the same tower as my note 5. The note 5 will grab 2 download channels and work perfect. The ZTE will only grab one, say conected but have no internet at all. If i aim my external mimo at a further away tower the ZTE will grab 2 seperate cell id's and then grab 2 seperate download channels and work. But its a terrible signal and it wants to drop to band 25 or 26.

Does same cell id carrier aggregation only work with an ipv6? Thats the only thing i can think of.

    Hmmm, I don't think it's ipv6 limited though.

    Definitely a head scratcher man.

  7. Ok. I have a note 5 that i can set in a window and get great speeds. Its on band 41 and has 2 matching cell id's and 2 download channels. Everything works perfect. Now i have a ZTE pocket wifi also sprint lte plus. I set it in the same window but can only get one cell and no conection. Its like it wont grab the secondary cell.

Here is whats weird. My phone while driving around always has matching primary and secondary cell id's with 2 downloading channels. My ZTE pocket wifi will only get carrier aggregation when the 2 cell id's are different. And its never as fast as my phone.

I dont get it. I set up a mimo antenna to the ZTE pocket wifi and aimed at the tower my phone gets band 41 w/CA and still even with better rsrp it only connects to one cell and has no conection. I aim the mimo to another tower further away and get 2 seperate cell id's on band 41 with terrible rsrp and get decent speeds but it wants to jump back to bands 25 and 26 after a while.

Does the ZTE pocket wifi not have true carrier aggregation?

Are you on the most current software version? I have a ZTE Pocket WiFi at work and see CA consistently whenever there is an active data connection. It is important to remember that devices will idle on either carrier, but not stay attached to both unless there is an active data connection.

  8. In the areas they have had the L700A license in Louisiana (not recent areas like New Orleans/Baton Rouge), they have very much targeted major vehicular corridors.

I-10 from Texas to almost Baton Rouge is B12 the entire way except for a lapse in Crowley.

I-20 from Minden to the end of the license in Delhi, aside from the site in Ruston.

And I-49 from Shreveport to north of Alexandria was all B2 and has been overlaid with B12 now.

Point being, major corridors are being overlaid pretty well in markets where the license has been held.

New Orleans is just now getting to the permit side of things with the L700 overlay after having the license since last fall.

However, if recent events should mean anything, expect some aggressive PCS refarming. New Orleans and Baton Rouge down to single U1900 carriers to make way for L1900. Very interesting to see them break their 2c UMTS soft limit they've held fast to nearly nationwide.

I guess the push is to get everyone on VoLTE?

  9. Questions:  why did Sprint embark and rip and replace NV1 in the first place?  Was it because the equipment that was in place is not compatible for LTE?  As Sprint migrate to 5G, do they have to do rip and replace again or is it more like an add on to what already in place for LTE?

NV1 was the groundwork for LTE, the same equipment is used for 3G and LTE.

5G is a completely different animal, so it's too soon to look at how it will be deployed.

  10. I used iMessage a few times on my iPad. I really wasn't impressed in anyway. Now, I dont have an iPhone either. What would be the benefit of using it? I am looking for honest input on what it does that I am missing out on, I simply don't know what I don't know.

It's similar to Blackberry Messenger or Google Hangouts in that regard, just better. You can have cross platform conversations (iPad, iPhone, Mac) and share content without resorting to MMS. You also get audio and video calling using FaceTime (over the iMessage platform).

  11. Let me ask you this. What happens when that good cell signal becomes overloaded? Assuming you have Sprint, it's not out of the realm of possibility considering Sprint has so many unlimited data users. What if Sprint renegotiates its tower leases and decides to move their equipment down the road where you are now in a fringe area? Or what if Sprint merges with T-Mobile and the new company decides to drop some of their leases in order to cut costs?

Would you go through the process of selling, moving, and buying new property? Wouldn't it be easier to just switch providers or get on wifi at that point?

When I got married 2 years ago, my wife and I were apartment hunting and the first thing we both checked was Sprint coverage, simple as that.

  12. So far so good, but of course like any other developer beta some apps don't work properly. In this case, my Dunkin Donuts app won't render correctly. Thankfully I have my HTC 10 for that.

  13. I'm on the beta currently. Relatively stable so far; been on it since 4 pm EST yesterday. Definitely laggy with the animations on my 6 Plus, but it is very usable. Battery life seems normal, and performance seems the same aside from the laggy animations. Basically everything works, though.

I'm going to try it after wiping my phone and restoring it for International SIM unlock.
