  1. My theory on why the device won't connect to LTE in addition to possibly having to do with being in a B41 area:

The device might be scanning on all 3 bands even when B25 is the only one enabled.

When it sees B41 it freaks out. Possibly due to bad programming or possibly because it's trying to authenticate but the network is blocking the connection. Which may explain why it connects so briefly when cycling airplane mode.

  2. Anyone who is experiencing LTE connection difficulties in a live B41 area? My LTE connects fine again at home.

For those of you that are unaware, when I was at work tonight I had no LTE connection at all. Usually I have at least B25. The whole way back home there was nothing until I got on my exit. Then boom there it was. It stayed connected during the 20 min drive from there to home.

  3. This sounds like the exact same thing that is happening to me. It seems that traveling away from a connected LTE tower somehow disallows other towers to successfully connect to LTE. That's the best way I can describe it at least

The interesting thing is my device doesn't have an issue handing off from LTE tower to LTE tower south of Tacoma, WA. While traveling in my home area my device will connect to LTE to LTE or LTE to 3G back to LTE just fine.

  4. I'm at work at the moment which has B41 and B25 LTE. What's interesting is that my device isn't connected to either. It's on eHRPD.

On the way to work it would not connect to LTE after a few miles on the freeway.

I can hypothesize that when this device is in a B41 area it will not connect to LTE on any band.

I will see if it connects when I get back home.

Toggling airplane mode allows LTE to show briefly, then it falls back onto eHRPD.

Any ideas on what to try?

  5. This is what I want to know! 42 pages, and no clear answer to this yet.

I live in Salt Lake, which has only 4 band 25 towers. But apparently (I'm not a premier sponsor), the city has many more Band 41 towers active. Thus, the answer to this question is critical to me!

I'm going to work later today which is in an area confirmed to have B41 active. I'll definitely let you guys know if it connects!

  6. What a contrast. Waiting for my 3rd smartphone in note than 3 years. HTC Hero, iPhone 4S and due Friday the Nexus 5 and first taste at LTE goodness.

I have problems. It certainly has its benefits though.

For example, I am pretty good at answering obscure questions about devices at work because I have had every flagship device sold at Sprint.

Annnnd that's probably the only other benefit of such behavior... I spend way too much money on these things...

  7. Contemplating this purchase, I have an s4 but it hurts keeping a phone for more than six months

In the past 12 months I've owned an iPhone 5, Nexus 4, Galaxy Note 2, Optimus G, HTC One (White Black and Red), GS4, BB Q10, Moto X, Galaxy Note 3 and now this Nexus 5.

    I feel your pain. Haha.

  8. For those of you that were having issues with Hangouts using sms and mms, It seems that whatever it was is now fixed. Its BLAZING FAST. Wondering if anyone else noticed a massive increase in stability the last hr or so.

I thought I was just going crazy. I definitely noticed a big improvement as well.

  9. No. Stock, un-modified devices have the issue. It is likely region specific. Alcatel-Lucent markets I'm thinking.

I see. I am in a Samsung market so I suppose that could very well be the problem. I wonder what's causing these devices to have a hard time authenticating LTE on Alcatel Lucent...

  10. I really agree with you on Number 7. For my usage, I find that the speaker is the worst thing about the phone. In quality of sound, the fact it's mono sound and that the volume doesn't go high enough. It's definitely tolerable. But it's the worst feature of the things that matter to me.

    Robert

I agree with you on the volume side of things. I do, however, find the audio quality to be quite nice!

Audio is punchier than the Note 3 and Nexus 4. Not overly bright and doesn't sound tinny.

It's just a little more quiet than I would want.

Overall I am very satisfied with this device, and for the price I can not argue the immense amount of value it brings.

  11. Yeah I tried that but I'm thinking that it must be related to the Google Voice Sprintegration. What's a SCRTN and how do I do it?

SCRTNs are performed on Nexus devices by entering " *#*#72786#*#* " in the dialer.

That is usually reserved for troubleshooting network related issues. It basically forces your phone to forget your phone number and activation profile, thus causing your phone to reactivate.

If your problem is indeed Google Voice integration related, an SCRTN is unlikely going to solve it.

  12. My N5 is up and running, getting good LTE service and I can make and receive calls just fine. The only trouble I'm having right now is sending SMS via Hangout. I receive them, but they won't send. I'm making do using the Google Voice app for now. Any ideas?

    Settings>More>Mobile Networks>Carrier Settings>Update Profile and PRL

If that doesn't solve the problem it might have something to do with Hangouts or Google Voice integration having a conflict. Perhaps a reboot or SCRTN would help.

  13. Guys, as much as I would like to enable B41, I am afraid of potential issues cropping up like on the LG G2 , can anyone confirm that the APN settings are in place?

Also, again, I cannot stress enough how much better! the signal is vs my HTC One. Another thing, noticed the handset gets warm after extended periods on a phone call.

Pardon my ignorance, how can I check for what you're looking for on the Nexus 5?

  14. So you can manually enable B41 and can confirm that you can receive B41 LTE at known B41 LTE tower?

I can't confirm that it will pick up B41 just yet because I don't work for another 2 days. We have B41 there as is confirmed by the Zing hotspot we use as WiFi.

What I can confirm at the moment is that enabling B41 on the device isn't having an adverse effect on how this device switches between B25 and eHRPD or 1XRTT

I will keep you guys posted with engineering screens once/if I knowingly connect to B41 LTE

  15. I think they are around $30? Never scanned a Sprint one but I think most the other carriers are $30ish. I an scan one at work tomorrow. It was crazy at work today with the ipad air launch.
