  1. Has anyone noticed the screen does an interesting contrast change when in direct sunlight. I saw it happen yesterday when I was outside photographing, when I put my hand over the proximity sensor, to see the phone better, the contrast changed the colors became a little more dull. When I removed my hand from the proximity sensor the colors became brighter, and the contrast was more dramatic. I had the phone at 50% brightness so it wasn't the brightness going up.

I thought it was interesting, and what probably lends to the phones readability in direct sunlight.

When I had AT&T I had a Nokia Lumia 920 that did the same thing. I didn't notice this on my HTC One. I'll check it out when I go outside next! Thanks for the heads up.

  2. What blows me away is my phone's willingness to jump on LTE over eHRPD when the LTE signal is very weak. I definitely don't mind it, it just goes to show the Galaxy Note's threshold for jumping on 4G is very low. At least it seems that way. My girlfriend's iPhone 5 and my dad's GS3 wont jump on it like mine does. Perhaps Sprint employees use different PRL's that allow that? There's so much to learn.

  3. The signal is likely coming across the water over from the Cromwell/Wollochet Bay site. There is an accepted site there. The best way to check is to go into your LTE Engineering screen and get your Cell ID. And then drive over to the tower in Cromwell and see if you get the same Cell ID when standing on the SE side of that site. The site has three sectors pointed in different directions. Only the one facing your direction would have the same Cell ID. If it's the same Cell ID, only with a much stronger signal, then that is the site.

There is also a site over in Tacoma/Ruston. But that one seems too far away. It's possible that it may be unaccepted site in testing mode. The only way to find out which LTE site you are connected to is via tracking Cell ID's. The New Orleans and Austin thread folks have nifty spreadsheets that S4GRU Members use to track and share LTE Cell ID's to help determine connection locations. You may want to consider starting one for the West Washington market.

Additionally, you should consider becoming a S4GRU Sponsor. Over in the Sponsor section, we have maps that show all Sprint sites, plus maps of all the Accepted Network Vision/LTE sites. I'll have to head on out that way sometime. Assuming that it is the tower in question. BTW, I just made a donation finally, so I'll get to see what's up and coming!

  4. Can someone help me understand where I'm getting this LTE signal from? It's extremely weak and my phone will randomly jump on it with a -115dBm reading on Signalcheck Pro. Drove around and can't connect anywhere except for the 2nd floor of my house lol.

Flashed different ROMs and they all connect, even on stock. However I could only map the signal on Sensorly while on the stock ROM.

  5. Interesting I wonder if the WiFi signal is weak enough to allow interference to be an issue.

Also wonder if the Exynos SOC in the Note is designed as such that this is problematic vs. the Snapdragon SOC on the GS3

  6. Sorry if this is a topic brought up before, but I have a question regarding using bluetooth and WiFi simultaneously.

On my Note 2, I've noticed that if I'm streaming music to my Jambox, the Wifi connection becomes extremely unstable. Sometimes it disconnects, but it always gives me a much lower throughput (1.8 Mb/s Vs. 25-30) when connected. Once I disable bluetooth it works perfectly fine again. I didn't notice this on my iPhone 5.

Question is this: Does bluetooth operate on 2.4GHz like my wireless router? If so, would it be obvious to deduce that using bluetooth and Wifi at the same time causes interference?

I may just need to invest in a 5Ghz "N" router if need be.

  7. Might have to take a trip over to the Redmond area soon.

Yeah same here. When I lived in DFW, I got a taste of LTE on my GS3 and was pulling in excellent speeds. I can't wait until NV is completed in our area, I am very much looking forward to it.

And by the way, I am very thankful for this forum. Without it, most of us would be relegated to other forums full of trolls and whiners and it is very distracting. I will be donating soon :)
