  1. You'll probably have to head over to our nexus 5 thread and read up. That device is not yet spark compatible. It has the hardware, but has not been software enabled yet by Sprint. Supposed to be sometime this quarter. I believe you can manually enable bands 26/41 by obtaining your MSL from Sprint support.

FYI Manually enabling the bands hasn't worked for anyone except a small few, AFIK.

  2. I will use a few personal anecdotes to draw my point...

The more direct one is this -- I have a Nexus 5 purchased through Google Play and activated on Sprint.  But Sprint ostensibly does not know that.  My online account does not recognize the identity of my current handset, and it prevents me from adding/changing optional services because those may be incompatible with my unrecognized handset.  Now, many of you want Sprint to open its arms to an even larger Nexus 5 pool.  In my opinion, you are just asking for Sprint to exceed its level of competence.  You are just asking for a big bag of hurt.

You know, I have to agree with this.  The entire Nexus 5 launch with Google play was a fiasco.  Representatives were not trained, nobody knew how to order a SIM card, and to this day Sprint is also unable to recognize the handset attached to my account.

Maybe there is a technical hurdle within the system that prevents this but i am more apt to believe that someone at Sprint is dropping the ball and not following through to make these things work as it should.

We should be able to activate a t-mobile nexus5 on our accounts,  the Sprint website should recognize our Phones,  and we should be able to change optional services. I'm guessing the only reason why we can't is because whomever is in charge of these things is not doing there job.

  3. That makes since. When you open your stock messaging app after you update it should ask then just click wich one you wany then chose always, like any other android app ( i.e. gallery vs photo veiwer on my g2 i just clicked gallery then always and done). Atleast thats what im thinking.

Most likely you'll only be prompted if you open a non stock messaging app. Otherwise it will just assume stock messaging.

Kind of like what happens when you open a browser on your computer that's not the default... It will often prompt you asking for you to change it to the default.

  4. So when we get the 4.4 update i can keep the lg messaging app? Im trying to explain this to my father inlaw to be. So far he loves his g2 vs his iphone but its each to there own.

I'd be shocked if they removed the lg messaging app. You'll most likely just have the option to set either as your default.

  5. Yep, for a phone that wasn't supposed to have bloatware, I would classify that as such.

FWIW, HP printer plugin seems to allow printing to various printers, not just HP.

  6. For anyone that wants to get their MSL via logcat here are the steps.

    Root

    Install Catlog from play store.

Open Catlog grant root permission and acknowledge pop-ups.

    Switch to your dialer

    Type *#*#3282#*#*

Got to the LTE menu, choose edit

Where it asks for your service code switch back to Catlog and pause the app

    Search for LG_SVC_ITEMS

It should filter the list down to a few items. One of these items should have a length of 6, you can click on this and there should be a 6 digit number this is your MSL.

Thank you.  For anyone without root and familiar with adb - you can read the logs by connecting your phone to your computer and using 'adb logcat'

edit:  My bad - saw this was already mentioned.

  7. Call SERO telesales at 18888824030 and then they will transfer you to international. It was pretty easy once they got their collective shit together at HQ.

Yeah I tried that and then International transfers me back to Employee Services.  International has a ticket open and is supposed to get back to me once they find out why Employee Services is not able to complete the request.  According to the supervisor over in Employee Services its not there job and only telesales can complete the request.  Telesales transfers me to International and the loop starts over.  Such a mess.

  8. oowee getting this UICC card with an Employee account is almost next to impossible.  I finally got someone to order one for me but its being shipped 3-5 days.  Tried to get another one overnighted but can't find anyone who knows how to order one for an employee account.  Phone comes tomorrow, and I'll try the store but otherwise looks like I won't have a fully functioning nexus 5 until later this week.

  9. That is a good question and it will be interesting to see if Google has something in store for us with Android 4.4 KitKat.  Currently I know as of Android 4.2.2 from personal experience that if you leave the Youtube app, the video becomes paused and the sound does not continue.  I know that Android 4.3 did not address this issue so maybe Android 4.4 will address this.

I'm pretty sure this is the intended behavior for the time being although I'd like to be able to play videos in the background too.

  10. I have dropped more calls in the past 6 months in the Indianapolis market than the 11 yrs I have been with them. Also, LTE is becoming quite loaded. I had a -80dbm and only getting 5-7 down

I've noticed the same voice degradtion in my area too since NV...even when surrounded by all completed towers.  Started sometime last year I think and never got better.  I'm hoping 800 will fix bring the service back to whatever it used to be once it is turned on.

LTE service is rock solid tho.

  11. I'm in a launched market and also never got one of those messages so I would think it  sent for a specific reason. My service was also fine before and after NV.  I'd speculate that it is either sent in response to high call volume for an area complaining about service or maybe sent to customers whose upgrade eligibility is coming up whom they want to keep as a customer..maybe both...could be sent different times or different reasons.

  12. Completely incorrect.  The LTE signal is not ever enabled until the high capacity backhaul is installed.  If you see an apparently high signal level, LTE, and bad speed, you need to check the actual LTE signal level because often LTE is from a different source site than that which is providing your CDMA connection.

It's actually really useful this way because of the way the "breathing" phenomenon affects CDMA far more than LTE.  With LTE, as utilization goes up, the only issue beyond link saturation is an increase in crosstalk and packet errors.  With CDMA, both a serious increase in the noise floor occurs and the base radio's effective power output decreases as a result of increasing complexity of modulation and in severe cases, of deliberate reduction in transmission power in order to decrease the service radius of the site to combat this issue and force subscribers onto adjacent cells.  It is therefore easily possible for a site to be overloaded with 1x (voice or 1x data) traffic but not with data traffic, either EVDO or LTE.  It's even possible on some devices (SVDO capable models) for EVDO and 1xRTT connections to be to different sites.  In an area with significant cell density and with moderate overlap, the benefit of this arrangement becomes even more apparent.

Interesting!  I frequent one spot where I get less than 1Mbps speeds on a LTE connection.  I always assumed the backhaul was not in place but maybe it is just low signal.  Thanks!

  13. When a Sprint LTE site is accepted for LTE, the backhaul must of been in place in order for that acceptance to take place (or so I have read Robert mention). Its irrelevant that T-Mobile already had the backhaul but Sprint had to put it. When Sprint puts the backhaul (and hence the site gets LTE accepted), why does T-Mobile keep on performing better? That's my question. I hope you understand my reasoning.

Pretty sure Sprint sites may advertise LTE regardless if the backhaul is in place or if it has not yet been accepted by Sprint.  Also, someone can correct me if I am wrong but as more sites go are accepted, the general performance will increase.  At my house, I noticed my speeds increase from an approximate average of 5Mbps to 15+Mbps after all three sites surrounding me were LTE accepted by Sprint.
