The Quad Cities are getting LTE lit up over in their thread. Parts of Moline and Davenport.
-
The good news is that they probably won't delay it due to snow/winter. On the t1/T3 side once the ground freezes you can forget about it until spring. It's a matter of contractor availability. I called sprint over the weekend and the rep volunteered that LTE was available soon.
-
Downtown is always terrible for data. Hoping they get the LTE in soon. There are only a few towers downtown and people camp on their phones all day. It gets so bad texts don't send and you can't use voicemail because it's all data driven.

Bmoses keeps reminding me about those maps. I drive all over town and I have only connected to the south side tower.there are 3 LTE sites in the central iowa market. unless someone out in the field finds it and posts about it you have to be a sponsor to see the maps to see where it is. dems da rulez

There is only 1 site that I know of in the whole city. All the equipment is here and ready we must be waiting for people to hook it up or something on mediacom's end.
-
I wonder what the holdup is now. Must be manpower.
-
It's been pretty quiet the last week or so. I wish we knew what the deployment plan was. It would be nice to know the next tower to go up!
-
Mine were downtown. I don't have any +1 in my contacts. Maybe a sprint gateway issue.Same issue here!! The people I had issue with were from an iphone 5 with a +1 (515) xxx-xxxx. The numbers that didn't have a +1 in front of them it wasn't an issue. I deleted all the "+" symbols in the contacts I was having issues with and it was fixed. Stupid. My issues were in Urbandale.

Darn. Me too. I was hoping!!!!

I'm having trouble sending text mesages downtown!!! Maybe that means we are going to get our tower upgraded soon!!!!

It's that one lone 4g tower. It must have a long reach! Or is there another tower north that has 4g? I'm a supporter but don't really understand the maps.
-
I drove around quite a bit running sensory. Hwy5,235,University and Merle hay mall areas. No 4g connections unfortunately. I'm happy to see someone connected in West Des Moines, so the next time I'm at work over there I will have to do some checking!
I can't find it either and I've been driving around.

Any tower news today? I would hate to be a tech out working in the heat this week.
-
I was driving from the southside and had LTE almost to the courthouse yesterday. That LTE tower has a lot of area!
-
Oop I meant to post in the des moines thread! Sorry!
-
More news! More news! I'm reading some of the other areas like Missouri and it's kinda exciting.
-
Can the heat affect the towers? Service switched between evdo and 1x yesterday and was out for a bit downtown. Or is that indication they are working on LTE there?
-
I'm getting LTE at St Anthony's Church on Indianola Rd!

Alot of data speeds IMO depend on density and time of day. Downtown speeds crawl until most people leave work downtown then it is somewhat acceptable. I fail to understand why Sprint doesn't beef up sites that are known trouble spots, esp in downtown or Jordan Creek, near campuses and such. Hopefully NV is the solution. I wish i had more insight as to how Sprint planned out their 3g network in the past. Voice is always excellent in Des Moines. 5 years ago I lived across from Valley West and used Sprint as my ISP for a while their data rates were so good and the price was affordable for a tethering plan.

I'm wondering what or who they are using for the backhaul. I dont see any CTL ckts at the addresses listed for the towers on the map. Does anyone know what kind of feed they use for LTE? T1/T3/OC?
-
So does anyone know what the holdup is? The fair has come and gone. Do all these towers need to be complete before they are lit for 4g?
-
I dont think Sprint will hurry based on Att's timeline. Verizon rules data wise downtown Des Moines, followed by t-mo. And I bet Att will put LTE downtown first because the big central office is there.

I have a question about the tower map. The tower I use downtown lists an address of West Des Moines. That isn't right. It's also the tower that is totally messed up data wise. Ping was over 1000 ms today after 4PM. Can we get the map corrected to list the right address for the tower? I'd like to know where we are on getting it LTE but the right address is a start...!
If this post s/b moved to the map forum pls let me know.
