  1. Oh so do I. Or I'll leave Sprint and head straight to ATT. But I have a feeling it will work out just like its supposed to.

You'd be surprised how good T-Mobile is. I have been mapping orlando like crazy with my Note 3.

  2. I am inside my apartment currently. The tower on lake under hill which is roughly 1 mile away can barely give me a signal next to the window of my apartment. Keep in mind I am on the 3rd floor and overlook a nature preserve area. The tower however, is actually opposite of the side my apartment faces, and a little bit more south. This means the signal has to travel through my building, which is a large apartment building to get into my house, or I catch whatever signal is coming to the side of the building and not being interrupted by our building walls.

When I am outside on the ground floor, I do not have an LTE signal probably because it is blocked by the buildings.. When I am around my lake which is in the center of my apartment neighborhood with no buildings, I have a LTE signal with excellent down and up. Everywhere else appears to be a dead zone. When i am in the movie theater across the street and is closer to the tower, which I wouldn't expect to have excellent coverage in anyway because those things are bunkers... I have LTE outside, but as soon as I get inside it slips away. So it really varies... ( I am also not accounting for that my area is not completely launched and this could all change when all of the towers around me have been upgraded)

1900 mhz is going to be good once its deployed on all the towers. 1900 can be as good, if not better than 800 if there are enough towers to prevent any coverage gaps but there will always be that issue with it not being able to penetrate inside buildings better when on 1900. This is why ATT and Verizon have claim to have the most reliable network because they run 750 or 850 something not sure who is which along with 1900 which allows them to have a broader range.) Get a multi band or tri band phone. It'll be worth it in the long wrong. And if you are contemplating switching to T mobile.. I am pretty sure they only utilize 1700 and1900 mhz with 1700 used for their 3g and 1900 used for HSPA, which is pretty fast but again will lack inside.

So reasons why I stick with sprint:

    1. Promis of a better network in future, and pretty much guarantee of a a network coverage comparable or better than Verizon and att.

    2. Unlimited data, which I am finding I can rack up when I have a decent LTE signal

    3. Their customer service is still better than any company I have ever dealt, ATT are blood suckers.

    4. Locked into 2 year contract and I am not leaving now

    5. I have seen what their network vision upgrades do down in Stuart, and it is well worth the wait.

    6. Softbank has some of the best ratings in their country, and is going to push for the same and best network over here. And they just infused 8 billion dollars of pretty spending money into Sprint. I'd take .0000125 percent of that and be happy.

    7. 800 mhz and 1900 are supported on my 5S.

    8. My bill is 77 dollars a month with insurance on my phone. lol

Hope it works out well :-)

  3. I can't speak for the tower you have pictured, but I can tell you all cellphone companies are working on their equipment. I have spoken to workers working for At&t, Verizon, Tmobile, etc. They have stated the industry is constantly evolving and they are constantly making changes. One contractor for Sprint told me last week they have begun to concentrate on Orlando proper, and we will begin to see noticable difference in service. I have noticed two new towers this week alone in the Sea World area are about to go Lte.

Oh I agree, I just know this is a Sprint only tower, and therefore am curious as to what necessitated an additional visit. I did notice that LTE was pretty craptacular today, so maybe more testing, but have no idea for sure.

  4. The Sprint LTE RRUs I've seen have four square boxes mounted behind the panel, with two at the top and two at the bottom as if they were piece of bread sandwiched together...for lack of a better description.

Hmm, wonder what I'm seeing then

  5. So I noticed a few things at my tower on Apopka Vineland and Clarcona Ocoee. First, they seem to have removed the gigantic osprey nest that used to crown it. Second, there is now a middle rack of antennas that I don't recall seeing before. What's more, they look to my untrained eye like Ericsson towers for Sprint. Thoughts? I need to bring a zoom lens next time...

  6. Hey guys,

Sad to say I moved on to ATT this past weekend to get the Galaxy Note 3. Had an opportunity to cut my bill down by joining the family and been drooling over the phone for a while now.

Thanks for all the great info and I will be sure to check in to see how Orlando is developing. I may be back in two years :)

Wishing you all a speedy LTE rollout!

    Best of luck!

  7. So Sprint has begun upgrading the tower next to me (finally), but in the interim, WOW has my voice and data service gone to the dogs. I regularly switch to 1xRTT on Sprint/MetroPCS whereas before i always had a medium 3G signal. Cannot wait for work to be completed and have good data again!

  8. I'm sure all of you are familiar with Feeder bands from a hurricane. In our present situation that's how I feel we are. We are just getting the very last tip of LTE that manages to swing our way, and then NOTHING for a few hours, and then just another tiny blipbleepblop (that word is patented and not part of Cosby's vocabulary) and then it VANISHES AGAIN. I would prefer to be at the center of the storm now please ty.

I find too that isolated towers tend to be slower than ones that are in a group of LTE enabled towers

  9. LOL I confused my phone. It didn't show that my WIFI was on when it was, and I did a speed test. got about 33 download on 3g. HAHAH. That is just awesome. And yeh, no network connection on LTE right now but its connecting to it before it connects to 3g. Progress! :wall:

That's how it is for me in Ocoee. Tower nearest me doesn't have LTE so I get whispers of LTE from the next nearest tower.

  10. Pretty sure sprint would rather be releasing a tri band note 3 but for some reason was not able to do so.

To say sprint is intentionally slapping you in the face is a little harsh.

Dan Hesse has it out for me I just know it!

He knows if I gain tri-band powers I will consume a terabyte of data EACH DAY.

  11. Anyone know the full price. Or the price per month with one up.

I won't mind it being single band since I won't be able to take advantage of triband till mid next year.

    Assume $699/24

  12. Should be 32 gb version since samsung said they are only selling 32 gb and 64 gb. Besides there is a sd card slot so it shouldnt matter.

True, but I don't like the idea of a 16gb with more than half the space eaten by Samsung and only 7GB for actual apps, even if they did create some sort of janky apps2sd approach.

Also, I've had bad luck with SD card failure so I tend to be less trusting of external storage.

  13. If they finish that tower you think it should extend over to waterford??? I am just wondering how they're going to fill in this gap. Its amazing that I can pick up LTE in the waterford town center in certain places, but not right across the street at my apartment, except near the lake and on the opposite side of my apartment. What in the world...I don't even

The downtilt of the tower can greatly affect the range, which is why sometimes a tower that seems far is giving you pretty good coverage while another from a similar distance is crappy in comparison.

  14. Not sure... I'm getting really decent 3G speeds from that site though (2.65 down, .75 up, 118 ping) So hopefully that means that they have the back haul in place and all they have to do is accept the site. LTE coverage on the UCF campus is really bad so I'm really hoping they get it done sooner rather than later

Still, I imagine with all those brick buildings it will still suffer quite a bit. Hopefully 800 will fix that though.

  15. I noticed more work being done at the site behind the UCF Stadium yesterday.. They had a bunch of generators there for a few weeks, with a guy in an Ericsson pickup truck filling them up with gas periodically. I have no idea why they had generators there, but they are gone now. The new RRU's and antennas have been up for a little more than a month and it still isn't live with LTE.. Any guesses on what the hold up is with this particular site?

Wonder if maybe the site lost power? Or perhaps they were using a C.O.W.?

  16. And there you have it. 800mhz would fix that. I like to use my phone indoors and don't spend much time near the few sites in my area so 800 is a must for any future devices for me.

Here, here. We just want good indoor coverage without being right next to the tower.

  17. From that comment, I have a question resulting from conversations this morning with reps at a local Sprint franchise location and a corporate rep who was at our local Best Buy to assist with the Apple roll-out this morning. Do I believe these folks who stated that I should choose to go ahead and upgrade to the Note 3 because this area (Waterloo, Iowa) will not see the network upgraded to take advantage of the tri-ban LTE until the end of 2014?

Reps typically have no idea about what locations are getting what upgrades. Not to mention, plans can and do change.

  18. Sounds waves, just like electromagnetic waves, are subject to the inverse square law. Plus, we have that whole non smooth, curved Earth thing going on. Yeah, I really do not want to calculate the 125 Hz longitudinal wave path loss between here and Michigan. Let us just say that it is massive -- something on the order of T-Mobile signal path loss.

    ;)
