T-Mobile LTE & Network Discussion
WiWavelength replied to CriticalityEvent's topic in General Topics
T-Mobile started its *3G* deployment with fully "greenfield" spectrum in the AWS 2100+1700 MHz band. AT&T, on the other hand, refarmed GSM or even AMPS within the Cellular 850 MHz and PCS 1900 MHz bands. But that did not as consistently allow for two contiguous W-CDMA carriers to be paired as DC-HSPA+. AJ- 4,425 replies

Sprint TD-LTE 2500/2600mhz Discussion
WiWavelength replied to IamMrFamous07's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
If nothing else, I have a couple of MacBook variants that support 2x2 MIMO plus display MCS indices and handshake levels. Robert and I could each hop short flights to Denver, then unleash "two wild and crazy guys" on the Mile High City for a few hours of testing... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DPy1D-bsFDE AJ -
Sprint TD-LTE 2500/2600mhz Discussion
WiWavelength replied to IamMrFamous07's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
The FCC OET application docs do not explicitly state 802.11n max MCS index for the Netgear tri band hotspot. But they do provide enough info to deduce it, as the docs state that the hotspot is limited to 20 MHz carriers. So, a 20 MHz carrier with a single spatial stream would cap out at 65 Mbps or 72 Mbps, depending on guard interval. In other words, it is MCS index 7, and that could be a bottleneck with TD-LTE 2600 using 20 MHz TDD carriers. AJ -

Good question. Sometimes, the FCC OET docs do list the max supported MCS index. I will see if I can locate it. AJ -

No. The hardware configurations (MIMO, guard interval, etc.) in both router and device are usually the bottleneck. But 802.11ac supports up to 160 MHz carriers, while 802.11n maxes out at 40 MHz carriers. AJ -

The first article on Sprint/Clearwire TD-LTE 2600 has been published. http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/162029-sprint-turns-on-lte-tdd-allowing-it-to-compete-with-att-and-verizons-coverage-and-performance It appears to draw a lot of its info from this very thread. AJ -

At the very least, it requires a different PLMN MCC-MNC. Look for 311-940. AJ -

Behold the powerful ERP/EIRP tri band LTE hotspot. Trinity! AJ -
There is a big difference between idle state priority and active state priority. I would expect idle state priority to direct UEs to LTE 1900, since that is likely to be the most ubiquitous LTE band. But active state priority should depend upon signal conditions -- TD-LTE 2600 wherever possible, then fallback to LTE 1900, then LTE 800 as a last resort. AJ

Everything LTE-A
WiWavelength replied to TyrellCorpse's topic in Network, Network Vision/LTE Deployment
Basically, all Sprint LTE devices to this point have utilized one of two Qualcomm basebands: MSM8960 (chipset with integrated baseband) or MDM9615. Neither supports LTE Advanced. The capability is either built in to the baseband or not -- there is no "software upgrade." Current tri band LTE devices are likely using the MDM9615, so they will not be LTE Advanced capable. Future tri band devices will likely switch to the Snapdragon 800 MSM8974 (chipset with integrated baseband) or MDM9625, both of which support LTE Advanced. But you are barking up the wrong tree if you are looking for future proofing. Whether it be LTE 800, TD-LTE 2600, LTE Advanced, or something else, your device will always be lacking something only a few months after its release. AJ -

Current Sprint devices do not have LTE Advanced capable basebands. But LTE Advanced is backward compatible with LTE devices -- just as CDMA2000 is backward compatible with cdmaOne devices. AJ -
