  1. Someone is to blame for the Nexus being so badly delayed, and it's a carrier that uses the D820. I know who to blame. It's AT&T! I bet they are trying to officially support the Nexus 5.

(Pure speculation. I'm just wanting to blame AT&T for everything)

It works fine on the latest radio, I watch it go between band 4 and 17 with no issues. No texting or calling issues even on newly launched sites and/or bands. Must be them on that new test radio right? ;)

All in all, Google hasn't said anything about the delay or release so anything else is consider a rumor to me.

  2. vzw has had a hell of a time deploying band 4 through Tulsa. A significant chunk of their network is perched on 40~50 foot utility poles. It worked fine for 700MHz since they could place 4 within a mile, but that broadcast height is not conducive for AWS.

That's kinda what they had here.  Alltel had all these telephone pole sites scattered around.  It worked very well when Sprint leased their EVDO!  VZW at that time only had their 1900mhz sites but then of course they bought Alltel and combined things. Some telephone pole sites stayed.  The one out my office window I saw a guy about 6 months ago for two days in a lift swapping the antennas out for triband ones.  It was about that time I noticed they had swapped a lot of their antennas around town.

  3. It's not really a flipped switch. It's been live for months.

Yep, live here for several months as well.  I did a test with my spectrum analyzer checking for things as I noticed AT&T already activated the AWS LTE 10x10 they got from Leap here.  I noticed the entire commute home I had VZW AWS, never dropped once.  Needless to say I was very impressed with their deployment as I can't say the same for Sprint 1900 LTE, Sprint 800 LTE, or even AT&T AWS.  You wouldn't even need VZW 700 LTE to fill any gaps.

  4. I originally thought it was the first attempt had ## as the sector id I know it's supposed to ignore the last two digits so for the second attempt I changed it to 00 then I was looking at the data and thought about the PLMN right when you replied. I don't venture outside the St Louis area often so the Missouri market will do fine and then the only sites I hit without notes will be b26 or b41 so I can grab those to report.

No, I was meaning that the Plmn was required as in for example, I have 2 different provider networks in the same file since you can switch on the fly on the N5.

  5. I was just thinking that I need to add the PLMN field I just took the entire Missouri market spreadsheet for B25 since that's all the info I have. I'll take another stab when I get back home to add the PLMN on the table and see if that does it before troubling you. Thanks

Yes, it is required. I have one with two markets and an AT&T market in it.

  6. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong I basically took the band 25 spreadsheet and made two columns the site address and gci. I formatted the gci to be 12345600 instead of 123456## and saved as csv. I then imported the data to the lte sites table clearing all data and using the csv data for the user_note and gci fields and save and put back on the phone but I still get no user notes.

Make sure you have the PLMN set. I also made a table of the three sectors to do a multiple join that tripled each site with the respective sector number. I don't think it is needed anymore though since he fixed the select query to do a max on the GCI.

Send me the GCIs, site descriptions , etc and sectors required. I can make one up for you.

  7. Well lets hope they're using a Full Spark Tri-Band device. Otherwise.....

I believe they used Sensorly last time as well. Us NOLA folks had a good laugh out of their picture calling Lake Ponchatrain the mighty Mississippi River.

  8. As long as you're not dropping addresses and pins you're fine. It's the same as posting LTE 1900 information in Non-Sponsor areas. Discussion of existence is allowed.

It's pretty easy to track down a site broadcasting LTE, especially rural ones. To say a non sponsor can't say he has a -60 signal at the corner of such and such with a site that has 12 Ericsson RRUs hanging overhead would be a shame...

  9. At least it's not only time specific (during congested times) but it's also location based. So, theoretically, you can move a block, connect to a less congested site, and have the throttle removed, right?

What if a site is congested all the time due to the lack of network design?

  10. How do you trail log? It says that feature is coming soon. Instead of driving around, staring at my phone, which logging feature should I use? I'd like it to log every single site/sector that I connect to during the day, and then view it to check for our second carrier/b26 in Chicago.

I use lordsutch's app for that. Makes it easy to find sites since I don't have a list of sites. Have to do it old school with a new school twist.

  11. I have been combing through this forum, so I apologize for asking this since I am sure it has been asked MANY times.  Even tried searching, but with so many results and not having a lot of time since I should be working, I thought I would just post and hope for a quick and simple response.

I bought a N5 yesterday and ended up flashing the .17 radio and a custom PRL and then also enabled B26.  My question is if there is something I am missing for B26 from the N5?  I know it isn't "officially" supported yet, but I have read numerous reports that it works on the N5 by just enabling the band.

So, I am just not completely sure if I'm missing something, or if it is just that the N5's RF performance is so good that it never even needs to look for it!  :D  (might slow down my Milwaukee market premier thread, but there's no such thing as too much LTE reception)

I didn't do anything special to pick up B26 sites on mine.  No special PRL (that's for 1x/EV anyways), no tricks, and I had the latest stock radio.  I did check after the profile update on activation to make sure that B26 was enabled and it indeed it came down as such.

  12. My n5 smokes my sisters 5s on Sprint, and both of my girlfriends parents 5s's on AT&T(with an AT&T sim in my n5). It wasn't even close, my n5 has won by 7dbm at the worst and in less than ideal conditions (basement two floors underground) it won by 12dbm and kept LTE while the AT&T iPhone 5s's kept dropping it for hspa+.

Nice to see a comparison.  I know I've mapped up some Sensorly coverage in some areas with the Nexus5 on band 17.

  13. Agreed. Hopefully we get the both of best. Hell, they may just roll the "Nexus Type" device into this new line. Just at an affordable price.

I don't think I would go to anything other than the next Nexus after having the Nexus5.  Just a huge breath of fresh air after doing ROMs for HTC and Samsung.  I didn't have to do my own ROM for the Nexus5 and there's a huge reason why.

  14. I'm giving the Nexus 5 another run and the first thing i noticed was a little bit of lightbleed at the top left. Anyone have that problem? My last one had a little bit too, I'm not really sure how much is acceptable for these devices. I know with an iPhone ANY bleed is unacceptable.

and I thought these things were supposed to be RF monsters? Is that only for Sprint? I'm using it on a different carrier and it's not performing quite as well as my iPad Air is on that same network especially on the LTE side.

It's a beast on sprint. I've had it on T-Mobile and it wasn't that great but that could be because of their coverage here.

Works great on band 17 and band 4 LTE. Hand offs work pretty decent between the two as well. I don't have another device to compare it to though. I did notice better battery life is with band 17 but that could be due to the complete coverage of it compared to band 25 in my area.

  15. I wasn't expecting a total subscriber gain this quarter. Not at all. Not even with Framily. I think the losses will reduce until Q4 2014, when I believe they'll start adding again.

Agree with your there.  They've still got some big holes in the network that need plugging first.   Its unfortunate they haven't taken a much more aggressive stance on them or even applied a band-aid to mitigate them at times.  Once they get things patched up the markets will start to turn around possibly within in 12-18 months with customer trends.  Hopefully they just keep bulldozing through it and continue to invest in the network, new sites, etc as it will pay off.
