Still no phone for me at Best Buy.

Best Buy filled SOME preorders. I'm still waiting on mine, and I saw their preorder list in the store. I'm at the top as far as who didn't get their order filled, so as soon as they get another in, it's mine, but they have no idea when that will be. The part that sucks is some Best Buy's got more than they needed. A friend, that doesn't like near me, went to BB, preordered, and got one on the spot because they had more than enough.

Well, she said she physically checked, at least she put me on hold for a couple of minutes. lol I think I have meeting over that way later in the afternoon, I might swing by and check.

I've a string of bad experiences in my local store. I'm kind of in between two stores though, maybe I will give the other once a chance. I used to be a huge BB fan but their in-store customer service has been crap lately in Daytona.

I now officially hate Best Buy. They have some of the pre-ordered phones in the store, but not mine. Wtf?

That might be based on the 5/23 relase date e-mail that BB released (and subsequently followed up with a "no actual date" e-mail).

Well, I can't speak for the screaming masses on the Sprint site, only from my experiences here with the calmer, clearer heads in this particular site.

That's because Best Buy is only acting on the info from Sprint, they (BB) don't have anything to do with setting the release date, nor (I'm assuming) were they aware of the possible delays. The only knock on Sprint has been the lack of communication. No one is really mad at them for the situation.

Speaking of the activation fee. I replaced my wife's phone two weeks ago at BB, (she wasn't interested in waiting for the new Evo she just wanted to get rid of her Hero), and there was no activation charge on my next statement, but they did update the data charge to make sure they were hitting me for another $10 a month.

That late night BB e-mail was disheartening. I went to bed almost ready give up and pick up the GNex today and end this mess. I might add that I had a bit to drink last night as well while attending a college baseball game at my alma mater (go Hatters!). Game time was 6:30 but rain delay pushed it back 3 hours, which was great because we were in a VIP booth that was fully stocked with food and beer. Anyway, I woke up this morning in a much better state of mind, ready to wait this thing out, logged on here and it seems we are still on for 5/23! Thanks for keeping us updated!

Best Buy has e-mailed me, updating the release date of my Evolte to 5/23.

Here's a fun analogy. Let's say you want to go to a party on Saturday, but on Monday, your mom tells you that you have to clean your room and show her it's clean before you can go. You clean your room on Thursday and tell her it's ready to be checked. She doesn't come and check your room until Sunday. Reports are that HTC has been waiting over a month for approval, they did not "play chicken" as you called it and simply try to pass their product through customs without addressing the situation. The hate towards Apple comes from the nature of the patent to begin with, as it's such an obvious function and such a minor addition to the overall package. Part of this blame should also be on the system as well, which allows for such a situation to occur. Restricting things to this level can result in a stifling of advancements as competitors borrow minor ideas from one another and continue to improve upon them. This is bad for us, as consumers because it can slow the development of technologies and improvements into every day items we purchase. I'm all for protecting intellectual property when that property is a true advancement or a significant piece of the puzzle, but not when it's an incidental addition that is so obvious as far as functionality is concerned.

Hah! I got an e-mail from Best Buy this morning letting me know that the iPhone 4 is on sale for $49.99. Fat chance, Apple.

You don't have to pay sales tax if the company you purchase from operates outside of Florida. Sprint operates in the State of Florida (with many Sprint stores), so you have to pay taxes on your purchase. Online retailers like Amazon do not have stores in Florida, so you don't have taxes to pay. If you purchased from a retailer that operated in states other then Florida, like the west coast for instance, then they would not have charged you sales tax.

Well, Apple is on par with Metallica now in my book. While technically they are right, they come off as giant d-bags and I will never support either.

I've read people claiming that some Best Buy stores (in their area) have some in stock for Friday. Any truth to this?

I noticed that rough treatment and thought it was great when other reports started coming out to support your original post. Unfortunately, that type of behavior seems to be stats quo on the inter webs.

At least you have an EVO currently. I had a Hero (which I dropped in a toilet) and ended up buying a Kyocera Echo off of Craigslist. I was so ready to get rid of this thing on Friday.
