  1. An experimental post over at XDA had some of us cause changes to our photon that we did not anticipate, mainly not being able to revert back. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1870916&page=2 Post #20.

Doing those steps caused the photon to NOT be able to go back to the "default" settings of which frequencies it is set to use when around the US / World. basically, no auto-roaming.

We can fix the issue by using QPST to select the right bands, but no one is sure what the right bands were. Was wondering if someone who has not done this method can take a screenshot of their phone in QPST so we have a baseline of what needs to be selected and not. The tab in QPST is UMTS System. Picture attached for a reference of what we are running for now to at least allow auto roaming in the USA.

    Thanks and much appreciated.

  2. The Airave doesn't connect to any cell tower. The cell towers in your area all connect back to some central equipment on Sprint's network. The Airave is basically a mini-cell tower that isn't dependent on any nearby towers to function. But the Airave connects back to central equipment in Sprint's network just like a regular cell tower. Someone correct me if I'm wrong on the following, but for Sprint to deliver calls to people in your area such as land-lines, they contract with one of the CLECs (or ILEC) in the area to deliver the calls. If that CLEC or ILEC's lines were jammed, then Sprint calls to your area aren't going to go through either.

If the Airave is not connected anywhere "locally", then how far into the network are they connected and why does cell tower provided gps information show a cell tower in NH for me when my phone is connected to the Airave? The airave has to connect somewhere somewhat locally for me to have not been able to make calls after the earthquake. If it was connected to voice servers in Kansas for instance I dont believe this would have happened.

  3. I see about 2.5 MBits with mine. What is the Airave connecting to? Is it just connected to a local tower to your area? My phones GPS that it retrieves from tower information puts me about 40 minutes away at a tower in NH when connected to the Airave. Why is this? Also, whats odd is that when we had the earthquake up here this past week and the lines were jammed, making calls on my airave was also affected. I would have thought that if the Airave was connected to Sprint voice servers in some other part of the country, I would not have been affected as if I was using a tower in the local area.

  4. Do you guys experience and significant power drain by leaving your devices on LTE/CDMA mode all the time?

On my photon Q I had huge battery drain leaving CDMA/4G on so I set it to CDMA only. eHRPD works with the phone on CDMA only. Is that abnormal?

Also, I get eHRPD all over Maine. Did physical work on the towers have to be done to get eHRPD working or is that something they can do remotely from somewhere else?

  5. I dont offload at home in the sense this thread is talking about. I have an Airave so i am offloading everything anyways to the microcell network. I rarely touch my device for anything but email being pulled when I am home either so I really just never bother. For an entire month, I use less than a gig usually..unless i am traveling which is rare.

  6. There has been a fix for this issue as per the Sprint discussion board. I have verified it has fixed my MMS problem. You will need your MSL to change a setting, if you dont have it you need to call sprint or use another method to obtain it. It appears some data profile usernames were borked during provisioning

    Steps to follow:

    1. Open your dial pad and dial ##3282#

    2. Tap on Data Profile

    3. Look at your username, mine ended in ".comom"

    4. If yours is obviously wrong (like mine), fix it, save it and then reboot phone.

    5. good to go.

  7. Maybe add a PIN which will take care of purchases in the Google Play store. The free apps, not sure. Maybe tell them there is consequences if the phone is used for non-work related activities? Once the first gets fired for doing it, I bet it will stop. ;)

  8. Also, any users with this phone..if you login to your sprint account do you see this as a feature listed:

    • Unltd Nationwide Direct Connect
    • Unlimited Group Connect

Wondering if the Sprint chat reps didnt change my phone and such over correctly during activation.

  9. *sigh*. Would be to easy if everything just worked. I am unable to receive any MMS message whether roaming, on Sprint or connected to Airave. The notification comes in but i need to press the button that says download, and that still fails. I have auto retrieve for MMS messages enabled. Any others have this problem?

  10. That may be the case. My PRL, not changed or modified in any way, is 55006. On my drive to work, I go through a few roaming areas, particularly on Verizon and US Cellular. Both have given me EvDo, and download speeds up to 2.5 Mbps.

What sort of plan do you have? Anything special about it? I am all over this if there is EVDO roaming country wide. I looked quick at the specs and it does show support for 1xRTT data (though maybe it would jusdt show EVDO and LTE or something).

Digiblur, is the PRL version number posted above something you have seen before?

  11. Read the post 2 before yours...

Saw it but was a bit suspect since it was never mentioned before (would be a big deal to many I think) as a feature. Is this the first phone to do this for non-business only plans? Is this the way LTE handsets will be going forward?

  12. Ever since I have been able to add PRL 11119 to my Epic for EVDO roaming I have been perfectly happy with my service (i dont roam much but it helps when I do). Will I be able to add the 11119 PRL to this phone or do the new phones that are LTE capable use a different PRL numbering scheme?

  13. From Sprints Facebook:

"Motorola PHOTON Q™ 4G LTE, the first 4G LTE-enabled smartphone from Sprint with a full QWERTY keyboard and international roaming capabilities, is available for pre-order beginning today. Available starting Aug. 19, Motorola PHOTON Q will cost $199.99 (excludes taxes) with a new line of service or eligible upgrade and two-year service agreement."
