  1. It still is a 4th Round Market. Just GMO's started early. You will still see 800 deployments on full build sites. You should start seeing a few in the next few weeks in the larger cities in the market, like Manchester, Nashua, Portland, Bangor and Burlington.

How come they can go on the full build sites but not GMO when the entire area seems to be in the IBEZ?  I thought something special had to happen between the two governments?

  2. i remember when the airaves first came out quite a few years ago they were not supposed to be used in certain areas of the country. i know it was locations out west but i cant remember for the life of me what the company was called that operated in the area but they were like a sprint authorized affiliate or something.

  3. Question about the Airave. Is it true Sprint will charge you if the device has been unplugged for a certain amount of time? Mine has been unplugged for a month.

I have seen discssion on SprintUsers of Sprint requesting the unit back after it had been unplugged for several months. Honestly I cant blame them for asking for it back if it isnt going to get used.

  4. I suppose they're working now! The way the Airave tech made it sound, it will actually block me from connecting to the Airave. This remains to be seen. I'll update once the new Airave comes and it's set up as it should be.

Honestly, i think you will still connect to it...just you will receive an error when you try to make any calls which puts you in worse shape than you are in. I believe the error states something to the effect of connecting to a sprint private network.

Back when the airave first came out, users complained of not being able to make any calls when in range of an airave that had been locked down. Shortly after, sprint disabled these settings.

I think your neighbor would be better off lowering the strength of their unit. I think there is three power settings.

  5. It's in the book that comes with the v2.5 Airave. It says it needs 350Kbps (DL/UL) for calls and 3Mbps DL/1.8 Mbps UL for the data side.

Notice it says up to on the data side if you want to experience the max EVDO data speeds. it will function with just about any US cable / dsl packages just fine. besides, that would not affect simply getting the unit registered. i have a friend using his on a 768 kbps DSL connection just fine.

  6. No DMZ is needed. No special configuration is needed in your router. Plug the Airave WAN port into a LAN port of your router.

    Reset it like mentioned above.

If you are using your internet connection 100% by watching a video or bit torrent, the mobile light will go red.

The unit needs a VPN connection which some routers do not handle well. DMZ gets rid of the headaches (or most of them). I am not sure what is wrong with your setup but utilizing your broadban connection to 100% capacity should not cause your airave to be taken offline like that. Possibly your router is croaking under the immense amount of connections being made via torrents.

  7. The "SOAK Team" gets the release shortly after final build is ready so we can wring it out to make sure there are no hidden problems not caught in "Beta."

(And yes, we've had it for about a month - got it before Christmas IIRC...) :frantic:

What is this SOAK team you speak of? is it connected to the Sprint official forums or?

  8. I've had the software update for about a month now. Seems to have fixed all isses, including the 3G drops and the 3G icon is fixed to where it doesn't dissapear when you initiate a call.

how did you get it so quick? the build date on it is only December 3rd..doesnt leave much room for testing and making its way through the various channels before it gets out to end users like you through the update process.

  9. Well this really sucks for Sprint customers who roam in NC, SC and other states where Alltel has coverage and Sprint doesn't. Heck, I think there are areas around here where Verizon doesn't have native coverage and roams on Alltel.

Is it possible they would keep a portion of that network running for roaming revenue? Several years back, Verizon bought Unicel (a GSM based provider) and they kept that network online simply for the roaming revenue.

  10. i just got it and been haveing the same p[robloms

this issue ticks me off to no end. i can say with certainty that it always happens when i need to look up something in a pinch and i need to sit there and cycle airplane mode with the hope that doing that will fix it.

  11. Ok, I guess we wont call them latency 'critical', but to make these apps appear fast, which is critical to the customer, you will need a low latency.

Just low latency? Think of it this way, if we take a generally low latency connection, say a cable modem, and set the defined speed caps in the modem to that of dial up (56k)..how well will netflix or even facebook work on a low latency connection then? Despite the low latency, they would certainly not appear fast given how these services are developed for "high" bandwidth throughput.

  12. The typical user is using their phone for Facebook, Email, light browsing, and some stream video (not counting gaming which generally doesnt need internet access).

Right. All of which are not latency critical apps. Voice over IP depends on latency to operate satisfactorily. Online gaming (Xbox, etc) depends heavily on latency. Streaming netflix does not. it will run without issue as long as throughput is high enough..roughly 2 MBits for a standard def video. Which will work fine on a satellite connection like wild blue or hughesnet.

  13. the better ping wins out for 99% of what a user is doing on a smart phone.

PS I have a degree in computer networking and am working on another one in computer information systems.

Are you running "ping" tests all day long on your phone? Care to tell us what users are doing 99% of the time on there phone where it is latency sensitive? Also, your analogy is very poor.

  14. Why couldnt this be maine too...If this happened in maine and Sprint used USCC existing network and towers this would fix the issues that Sprint has with coverage here, outside of cities and towns. I this market is their bread and butter though so maybe another year or two and USCC will be willing to sell.

EDIT- Just saw the update by robert, what a bummer.
