  1. When I hang up from a phone call my phone will go back to b41. Could this be a market by market scenario?

    No this is by design, the Note 4 is NOT SVLTE which means in a nutshell you cannot use data while on a voice call. So when you are a call the LTE radio is disabled. Now if your on wifi data will work while on a call, using google voice/hangouts will also work.

  2. That's not the phone, it's the network doing what it is designed to do. You'll be disappointed when your replacement phone does the same thing.

    I agree to an extent, but i do believe the radio suffers some issues as well. For example I have all three bands on at work (all 3 bands enabled) b41  hovers around 110 b25 around -93 26 around -85 the device will jump between b41 and 3g. Now deactivate b41 and it sits on b25  with an occasional jump to b26 never to 3g? Also when b41 is enabled I get a lot of dropped calls while driving around with b41 disabled very few if any dropped calls? So I dont think anyone can say 100% that there is not an issue with the device. Hopefully with all the time they have had for the upcoming update they have updated the radio and or baseband to correct this.

  3. I just upgraded to a Note 4 from the S5, and I've noticed the Note 4 likes to camp out on B25 versus my S5. Especially after a call the phone goes straight to B25 and stays there, unlike the S5 which would go back to B41. Has anyone had this kind of issue?

    Mine like 41, and 3g and 26 ha. However if I turn off 41 I'm hardly ever on 3g. Mostly 25 and some 26 and the rare 3g.

  4. Luckily with Sprint, you can use full integration with Google Voice and have svlte capability. I've been using it since hangouts got the merge with google voice and it works really well. The call quality is pretty good, and I don't even remember the last time I took a call on 1x.

    I haven't tried that yet? Hmmm

  5. I would actually say that most people really don't notice. There will always be a subset that would like it, but the majority of people (note: not people on these or other tech forums) don't think about. Even for me, there have only been two times that I can think of when I really wished I could look something up while I was on a phone call. People use phones as phones less and less all of the time, so it's become a non-issue for many.

    While I've never used a Note 2, I will say that LTE performance jumped considerably on the devices I use when the switch was made to single path radios (HTC, LG).

    Well I'd say the first part is debatable. I have had the gn2 the N5 and now the gn4 and the gn2 heavily out performs this thing as far as RF performance. Now I will say that maybe once the network is better optimized my experience mag improve. But for now I'm sticking with my assessment.

    Sheesh, not this again. Can we put the flagellation over SVLTE to bed once and for all? Here are the issues:

    • Single RF path was not as much of a "business decision" as it was an engineering choice. It performs better and allows the designs of nearly all other handsets in the world also to be used for Sprint.
    • SVDO is gone. EV-DO is not a simultaneous possibility -- because it shares the same RF path with CDMA1X or LTE or both.
    • For SVLTE, VZW requires specially designed handsets that limit performance and selection.
    • However, not all VZW handsets support SVLTE. Many do not.
    • Most people do not notice simultaneous voice and data capability (or lack thereof).
    • Finally, if you MUST have simultaneous voice and data, you DO have options: use Wi-Fi, use VoIP, wait for VoLTE, or go find another provider.
    AJ

    Well I disagree about performance as my note 2 outperformed a lot of devices. I would disagree that most people don't notice, I'd say they accept it which I dont. And thanks I'm well aware of my choice as a consumer.

  7. You realize it wasn't just a business decision.

    It was SvLTE or Tri-Band. It was not possible (or at least cost prohibitive) to have both. OEMs weren't willing to do TDD-LTE+FDD-LTE+SvLTE.

    Actually if you use the words "cost prohibitive"  then its a money decision which to me means a business decision. Couple of thoughts in no particular order. Doesnt verizons note for work on multiple bands while still supporting data and voice at the same time? If it kicks you off lte during a call why cant it be designed to kick on EVDO while on a call? I guess i find it a hard pill to swallow that i can basically control the universe with this thing but yet I cant try on suits and send a pictures while talking to my fiance. You can give me all the technical reasons you want, but at the end of the day I just think its lame!

  8. I know this has been brought before but lack of svlte or lack of ability to use data while on a call is a horrible business decision in my opinion. I'm surprised Verizon s marketing department hasn't taken advantage of this. Especially in flagship devices!

  9. Still not inpressed. Was sitting on a -59 b26 connection then it boots me to a -108 clear b41 sector then to 3g? So not necessarily rf but signal lock or network management issue? Either way doesn't impress me as a consumer.

  10. Surprised to see a software update this AM on my shiny new Note 4; (Samsung/kies);

    still at Kit Kat 4.4.4 so this must be a tweak of the firmware that I've been reading about;

    (136 MB)Better battery life, wi-fi issues, et al...maybe a positioning of the software base for

    Lollypop due out early next year...anyone else see this?

    Yup just finished loading mine.

    New base band.

  11. Cant compare it to a N5 however I would not call it a strong RF performer. I have my gn2 on my desk at work as a hot spot and it sits on LTE the whole time. My gn4 is constantly switching from LTE to 3G. Again I cannot speak to how it compares to the N5 but I still wouldn't call it a strong RF performer. I still recommend the device though it's an amazing device!
