Does this give a hint on how Sprint plans on carrying out network densification?  I'm speaking network wise, not cutting yogurt out and Uber rides for execs.  .

That guy is an uninformed assclown of a journalist. The issue Sprint has with these backhaul providers is that they are demanding retarded "cancellation" fees for what amounts to some crap tier t1 lines and so the financial cost to Sprint is huge. These companies are also frequently owned by competitors like AT&T and Verizon and Sprint views this as an abusive and unfair advantage. 

In terms of a business example: The building I work at used to be serviced by 5x T1 lines at a cost of over $1000/mo. EACH. A competitor in town built out fiber to our building and AT&T tried to demand that we pay a TRIPLE cost cancellation fee on the remainder of our time and when we refused and simply paid for fiber while also paying for the T1s they (AT&T) then tried to refuse to transfer our landline numbers over to the new servicer. So we went back and forth and eventually got local government involved to fix the situation and the STUPIDEST thing about it was that AT&T HAD FIBER AVAILABLE to the building (as we discovered during the process) but refused to let us change to that service because they made easy money off the T1s. The whole thing was completely asinine and if Sprint is dealing with anything like this it is a small wonder that backhaul is delayed.

How can you tell if your devices support MU-MIMO? That's the big selling point for me. If anyone downloads or updates a steam game on the network, latency and bandwidth gets maxed out and causes issues for others. I currently have the AC68R and its great but looking into the mimo portion for reasons above. Any time I upgrade my firmware above version 4135, I get no internet connection timeouts wrote often on the AC68R.

Well if you are happy with the ASUS brand overall they do make the RT-AC87 that supports MU-MIMO but it is like ~$225+ The devices that support it are pretty limited. It is interesting that you are having issues with the AC68 though because I have not run into this with my usage which usually at least 2 devices streaming while the pc updates/downloads 'stuff'. The only issue I have seen is with Origin which maxes my connection (it can pull 12 Mbps+ down!) and only twice has my internet hiccuped.

MU-MIMO is the future but right now so little really supports it that it may not help you much at all until the next round of cellphones come out

Diztronic put their TPU case on preorder for the N6P on amazon! I've been a fan of them for awhile. If you're like me and like thin TPU cases that are plain with basically no logo check this one out. Another reason I like Distronic is because many TPU cases are flimsy on the sides and this brand tends to be the least from the ones I've tried.

I ordered it because Spigen can't give me a yes/no/date on if they will make a slimarmor for the 6P.

Edit: Also took some pics of the OnePlus USB to USB type C cables I bought. The one pictured is the 100cm length which is perfect for use at work.

Very good build quality on these cables and the included tie off is a really nice touch! The reversible USB side is really handy when I have to plug into a hard to see USB slot (my monitor or on the floor desktop)

Is MIMO a noticeable difference for home WiFi?  Often people on my network will be updating Steam games and such and I know I can fix bandwidth concerns with QoS, but I'm not sure how MU-MIMO helps with home WiFi networks.  Anyone else here have a fancy router?  What do you recommend?

Asus RT-AC68U is a great router. If you want something cheaper and N-only, the Asus RT-N66U is a great performer.

Agreed. I use this router (upgraded from an RT-AC55U) I bought it off ebay a year and a half ago for a great deal and it is a great router.

To the OP, if you are looking to get this from an ebay seller or otherwise RT-AC68U = RT-AC68R. The U vs R just denotes original packaging where R is retail (bestbuy etc)

I have also noticed towers with 2 carriers not showing the extra speed benefit. 6 occasions to be exact. I will have my Nexus 5 and Note 5 and make sure CA is on the note yet speed is almost the same. I wonder if they are firing up CA on some sites with insufficient backhaul to support it? Seems likely.

Yes I have seen that on towers here. I haven't had time to look into it but it seems like only Clearwire towers (I used to get wimax off of them on my evo3d) seem to be supporting CA. These towers also tend to have higher LTE speeds to begin with so it is pretty easy to test the 3 or 4 locations that already had higher speeds. I often see b41² around town but when tested it only nets the same 20 Mbps that I used to get on my nexus 5. I am happy with those speeds of course but it is interesting nonetheless. 

That's the thing though. Your Nexus 6P is miles ahead of the Note edge in rf and they are not using a Nexus 6P.

Maybe? My N6P performs better than my N5 in terms of holding b41 but the actual speed from a non CA tower is almost identical. Not sure about the RF performance of the Note Edge but the important thing is that it also supports B41 CA.

I'm not to sure about 2nd half 2015 results. They used just a okay band 41 performer and started testing in the beginning stages of the CA rollout so alot of these cities didn't get the full benefit, also all of the cities with no band 41 at all is really bringing Sprint's speed scores down to the point where CA isn't enough to make up for it. Also sites with CA are not prevalent enough. Sprint only won 2-3 data scores. Sprint is opening up a can of John Cena with text and call but that's not going to be enough. Maybe in 2017.

Well, after seeing how my Nexus 6p performs in Austin I fully expect a first or second place data speed finish here. I do agree though that markets without CA active will continue to hold Sprint back in overall rankings though.

Sorry to hear that. If that is the case I would initiate an RMA with Google. I believe they have some units set aside and hopefully they haven't all been used up.

I've playing around with various charger and cable combinations, but only the included charger/usbc-usbc cable makes the phone display "Rapid Charging" on the lock screen.  In your case 3 amp car charger, do you see "rapid charging" on the displayed? 

"Rapid charging" seems to be quite generous as I have seen it with standard USB to Type C plug (one of the OnePlus cables which is really a great cable) from: my computer, my wife's 2.4 amp car charger, and my friends' Note 3 charger.

My guess is anything above 1.5-2 amps is rated as "charging rapidly" and it is not an indication of getting the full 3 amps that the official charger can provide.

Edit: Lower than that actually.

Hmmm. It seems my 3 amp car charger with a high speed USB cable (Standard USB plug to Type C) charges faster than my Google provided wall charger with Type C to Type C cable. If it's not faster, then it's nearly identical. It screams in comparison to my old charging scenarios.

My wife has a 2.4 amp car charger that I pulled 2.65 amps measured with Ampere so I am not surprised. Also, just as an FYI the charging for this phone is stepped by how low the battery is. So if you are at like 10% you pull the full 3 amps from the wall charger and then less and less the more you are charged. So if your phone is at low battery you could definitely charge faster vs the google charger at 50% or higher charge.

I got my 32gb silver version this morning and have already noticed it reboots all the time. Is this just me or are other people seeing this too

9 times out of 10 that I have seen this on a Nexus device it is a rogue app causing it. Factory reset and install apps one at a time to make sure it is stable.

Here is a weird quirk:

Slight static on my headphones when sound is on (no static when muted with headphones plugged in) on only certain headphones. My skullcandy earbuds and xiaomi piston IIs I use for running have the static but my spare iphone headphones and the ultra cheap phillips earbuds have none. The headphones that have no static seem to have a VERY SLIGHTLY longer plug and I have searched and found others with this issue.

Kinda annoying actually as I listen to music late at night and the skullcandy earbuds feel the best on my ears.

No luck with Huawei this morning.  They not only said they would not honor replacing the device for anything less than full cost, but they also said that they do not offer any repair service whatsoever.  I cannot even send it back to them and repair for a fee.  They said they probably will not have display repair kits out for 6 months.  Nice.

 

I love reading all these stories over the years of how people can get this and that returned.  I hear of things like one time customer service returns, etc.  I never get things like that.  And I am uber nice on the phone with customer service reps.  And I am persistent, in a friendly way.  I just never seem to get a break.  But all in all, it's my own dang fault.  

 

Maybe if I call Google Fi and threaten to cancel my service now that I no longer have a compatible device, maybe that will get me somewhere?  probably not.  I bought the phone using a debit MasterCard from my Credit Union checking account.  I doubt they offer coverage, but I'm checking now.

I know in the past Google Fi has definitely done replacements for the Nexus 6 for $100. Not sure if that is helpful now but there is precedent there.

I cant seem to find any information on the exact process of activating a nexus 6P on the Sprint network. I have the correct sim card in hand but am not clear if I have to call, web chat, or just plug in the sim. Sorry a bit new to the whole sim card thing as my S5 is my current and only phone I have ever had a sim car for.

I just plugged in the SIM and activated Web chat. They will ask for the device ID and sim card ID and 2 mins later I was making calls on my Nexus 6P.

The one thing that really hurts the battery though is standby on T-Mobile WiFi calling. It drops like 8-10% an hour on Tmo WiFi calling standby. And I don't know if that is normal, or because I'm using it an areas where Tmo has no signal at all.

Sounds normal. My coworker disabled wifi calling on his T-Mobile iphone 6 after he was seeing ~10% battery drain an hour when at the edge of signal (in our work building).

You do realize that both 2015 Nexus handsets support 2x2 MIMO on Wi-Fi, right?  The Nexus 5 was more typical single spatial stream.  That is the primary reason for your Wi-Fi speed boost.

 

However, I am not sure why anyone should be concerned about Wi-Fi speeds on mobile devices.  Whether 100 Mbps, 50 Mbps, or 10 Mbps, most handheld activities are going to function and feel the same.  In my case, I have separate SSIDs for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHZ.  I purposely keep my devices (handsets, tablets, printer, gaming system) off of 5 GHz and on 2.4 GHz.  That way, the laptop and the secondary Wi-Fi router connected to several NAS in another room get the 5 GHz super highway all to themselves.  Those are the equipment that can benefit from additional speed.

Yes I am aware of the difference. However, my Nexus 5 was always a poor performer on 5GHz even one room away. As a comparison my N6P actually holds higher speeds at longer distance than my wife's iPhone 6s. I consider that pretty impressive. As to why wifi performance matters, In Austin, TWC rolls out wifi for subscribers for events so I am hopeful that as Sprint (and all mobile carriers really) grind into dust under the strain of events here that I will be able to hold a better wifi signal at longer distances. 

Mostly it is just cool to see the march forward in technology as now I won't have to manually switch to 2.4 ghz when downstairs and wanting to stream from my Plex server to my phone. 

I'm in the same boat in Southern California. Pay for 100 get anywhere from 100 - 120. My wifi speed tests are usually done with my N6 and occasionally with my laptop which I had to upgrade the wireless card to access 5ghz.

The really impressive thing is those speeds were downstairs opposite my router (an Asus AC-68U) where my N5 would drop to maybe 30-40% of that speed. the N6P also seems to do much better on holding B41 than my N5. I am a very happy camper in terms of RF performance on this device.

I can actually get 300 down but I pay for 100 down and TWC overprovisions by 10-15% in my town (Austin) thanks to Google Fiber coming to town. So that 109 down is actually close to the speeds I get connected via ethernet on my computer. Very impressive coming from a very disappointing 5GHz experience with my Nexus 5.

Well it turns out I am retarded and didn't have beam turned on for my nexus 5.

I transferred some stuff from my nexus 5 to my 6p, so yeah it works for me.

Hum, I assume these plans will replace family share. Do existing family share users get moved over to these plans? I have a pretty good deal right now but not running the risk of overages is always attractive since my wife burned through ~9 GB of data in 2 days when we were traveling.
