  1. I stand corrected. Going to grab coffee number 2.

I can't blame you for not noticing. On the one hand, for current leasers this is a good deal but on the other hand unless you can do the cheap phone shuffle like I did (traded in a cheapo phone for the $15 promo and now it appears I can also get the $1 Sprint deal) you wasted a significant amount of equity in the tradein phone.

To your point above it is even more misleading because if you want to leave the service you owe the full 27.09 payments left at both carriers. The whole thing sucks.

  2. Edit: Conflicting sources.

@Marceloclaure @AustinsAmused @sprintcare haven't had a chance to update our care reps. Of course this promo will be available to everyone @MarciCarris

This offer is not elgible for current iPhone forever 6 leases. Sorry to tell you guys. You have to own it outright

Proceed sir. I'm just letting you know what was released to employees.

    Not Eligible for it:

We just got info saying you can't be on a lease to qualify for the $1 plan. You can be on an IB and pay that off and then switch to this plan but essentially you have to own your device to switch to this. This is what I'm being told as of right now. I'm sure adjustments and what not will be made as we go along.
Also. You can't adjust a lease due to you signing paperwork for certain pricing and dates. It's not as simple as just moving it over. For legal purposes it has to be a new lease with new paperwork to go with it.

Just got something else from our local account manager confirming you have to own your device free and clear to switch to that plan.

Jessica: Hi, I'm a live Sprint sales specialist. Would you like any help today?
You: Hi, I just saw this promotion from Sprint: http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/not-so-fast-t-mobile-sprint-beats-your-price-with-worlds-best-offer-on-iphone-6s-1month.htm for a $1/mo iPhone 6. Does this offer apply for people with a current iPhone 6 lease?
Jessica: We will use a secure connection for this chat, please hold on for a moment while the connection is established.
Jessica: One moment please. I will need to look at that promotion.
Jessica: Thank you for your patience.
Jessica: This offer is available for upgrade-eligible customers as well with phone trade-in.
    Jessica: This offer starts tomorrow.
Jessica: You will be required to trade-in an iPhone 6 in order to take advantage of this deal.
You: so my current iphone 6 lease @$15 a month becomes $1 a month with an iphone 6s? (16 GB capacity version)
Jessica: Yes that is correct. Also, please note that you need to be leasing your current phone under the iPhone Forever program, or be done with the regular lease that you're on now, in order to qualify.
Jessica: Yes, it's for the 16GB capacity version.
    Jessica: Is everything okay?
    You: yes sorry
    Jessica: No worries.
You: I was on the phone with sprint as well because the delay
You: and they are not sure
You: maybe ill wait a few days for everyone to be on the same page :)
Jessica: Please click on this link.
You: yeah, I just had to spell out newsroom.sprint.com for the phone rep :P
Jessica: This news just came out. We're all trying to catch up on the details.
    Jessica: Thank you.
    You: yeah I understand
You: thanks for the help Jessica it sounds like a great deal for us
Jessica: You're very welcome! Yes, it's a great deal.
Jessica: May I ask if there are any other questions or concerns that you would like for me to address for you?
    You: nope that is it!

  3. Looks like T-Mobile's not the only one trying to confuse everyone with the iPhone launch.

    http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/not-so-fast-t-mobile-sprint-beats-your-price-with-worlds-best-offer-on-iphone-6s-1month.htm

Of note, I completely agree with the sentiment of T-Mobile not being "simple" anymore. With 3 different Jump! schemas, grandfathered promo rate plans, new rate plans with different int'l roaming rates, etc it is a confusing mess.

Not sure why the cost of the phone needs to be obfuscated any more than it already is. iPhones cost $650. If people don't want to pay it, then don't buy it. Tired of all the gimmicks and half-promos, not just from T-Mobile, but everyone in the one-up game of getting to the lowest cost. Now if they want to give me a free storage upgrade, gladly! If they want to knock off a few payments, sure! Car dealerships offer deals that pay the first X payments for you. But this race to a near-free iPhone lease is ridiculous.

Admittedly T-Mobile wants to get those iPhone 6's out of customer hands to get the 6S in their hands so they have Band 12 coverage and are less prone to having a reason to walk.

Yep. Totally not surprised because everyone looks for the "CHEAPEST IPHONE AT X CARRRIERERR" headlines.

That being said my wife is on the $15/mo promo for her iPhone 6 and if she can trade that for an iPhone 6s for $1/mo because like the stupid T-Mobile deal now I have to constantly be aware of the latest and greatest promotion. From a customer perspective it is annoying on any carrier. Dont forget that Sprint also wants the 6s into customer hands for 2x b41 Carrier Aggregation.

  4. So here is Legere's promo pricing absolute BULLSHIT chart. It doesn't disclose ANYTHING of importance, claims no taxes owed on a lease which only applies if you turn in the lease and not buy it which should merit a footnote at least and absolutely pisses me off by how disingenuous it is. If you cancel service it goes all the way up to $27/mo for the remainder of the payments.

It doesn't disclose that you need to trade in an IPHONE 6 for this. So you will have all these poor bastard current customers coming in with an iPhone 6 that still has lease payments on it and causing all kinds of confusion. Here is why this is bullshit.

The $5 deal is pretty lousy but the $10 for a 5s isn't terrible since by my quick math it would make it $10x18 months + the $164 payment to keep the phone after 18 months which means you get a $344 iPhone 6s at the end of 18 months (before the deferred taxes which are also significant).

So lets compare this on a yearly basis trade in vs not trading in:
If you pay the $5/mo for 12 months (60+99 upfront for 64 GB model+410 iPhone 6 market value ..or is it $550?) you are paying at least $569

If you pay $20/mo for 12 months lease without a trade in at all (240+99 upfront for 64 GB model) you are paying $339

If you own a iPhone already this is not a great deal.

Since the comparison to Sprint is inevitable due to both carriers being the most aggressive: The problem here is that it is still more $ than what Sprint is offering. Right now the iPhone 6s (w/any smartphone trade-in )with unlimited data on Sprint is $75 (60 plan + 15 for a 16 GB iPhone 6s) vs $85 ($80+ $5 for a 16 GB iPhone 6s) plus the cost I outlined above of trading your phone in. The gap widens when you compare trading in an LG sunrise for $30 on Sprint or even a much older iPhone.

This is not a good deal for yearly upgraders and in my eyes even at 18 months it is a little wanting. I consider the $5 deal a good marketing ploy where T-Mobile can shout about having the cheapest iPhone plan while costing the people who take this plan quite a bit more money than they realize.

Even with matching the $15 for any smartphone the price gap is $75 vs $95 or enough to get an iPhone 6s Plus with 128GB and still have money left over every month. Further, @ $240 difference over 12 months this is still quite in favor of Sprint's current promotion and plans.

edit: to add to this already long post: T-Mobile is becoming way too complicated. They started out by getting rid of all discounts and promising one price to everyone but now there are people on a billion different plans that they have to constantly keep having to check in to see if there is something better. Even simple questions such as online vs in store pricing, how much tethering, 3 different jump programs. This feels more like shopping at Kohls where EVERYTHING IS ON SALE AND YOU CAN GET EVEN BETTER SAVINGS WITH KOHLS CASH OR A KOHLS CARD APPLY NOW style promotions. My sister has Tmobile and came to me today asking about her plan and I had such a hard time telling what the hell plan she was using and if she was eligible for the new promotions and all kinds of crap. What happened to a simple choice everyone has the same plan? It is an absolute mess now and the employees are given NO warning of these plans which was obvious when I tried calling in with her.  Oh and for the record if you wanted to trade an iPhone 6 64 GB in for an iPhone 6s 64 GB T-mobile insists that you pay the $99 down payment anyways.

  5. Looks like some indian company oust the specs, it ain't looking pretty guys

5.2-inch 2015 LG Nexus has a Full HD display, as well as a hexa-core Snapdragon 808 chip, 2GB RAM, 12.3 and 5MP cameras, 16GB/ 32gb internal storage space, and 2,700 mAh battery.

    http://pocketnow.com/2015/09/23/lg-nexus-5x-specs-amazon

I fully expect this phone to be no more than $349 with 32GB.

Also, looks like case makers jumped the gun as usual...

Here is another look at the device.

    http://www.amazon.com/Ringke-Essential-Protector-Scratch-Resistant-Protective/dp/B014RS5EZ6/ref=sr_1_4?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1443023175&sr=1-4&keywords=nexus+5x

As mentioned above: plenty is wrong with the leaked specs in regards to size and weight so it is also plausible then that the ram spec listed is wrong as well.

  6. I hope the leaked specs are wrong in the RAM and storage size department. I would be disappointed in 2 GB RAM since I think 3 GB RAM is good enough.  32 GB storage should be the base model with 32 GB and 64 GB storage options.

I know people want lower costs on Nexus phones but I hate these trade offs.  I would rather pay a bit more so that certain corners are not cut just to ensure a decent spec phone.  The rest of the specs of non 1440p screen resolution and battery of 2700 maH, I have come to accept even though I much prefer at least a 3000 maH battery and the 1440p screen.

If 3000 maH, 1440p, and 3 GB is what you want then the Moto X sounds like the perfect phone for you. I am still leaning that way myself actually but I want to see some comparison reviews between the two before I buy.

  7. I still am expecting 3 GB of ram and 16/32 GB ram storage sizes. I am a little skeptical of that leak as it lists the weight at 175g which is as heavy as Samsung's Note line with much bigger screens and battery. I still think it will come with 3 GB of ram.

I'll have to see how the battery life compares to the Moto X pure.

Edit: actually looking at the sizing specs the amazon india links listed I think they got some specs for the Nexus P intermixed as the size looks like it would be for a 5.7" phone in which case the weight makes sense

  8. Does anybody know what kind (AWS, PCS, cellular, etc) and how much spectrum Dish controls?

I am sure others might correct me but my understanding was that Dish owns like 6 or 7 MHz of spectrum in the unpaired Lower 700MHz E block? It also owns the PCS H block paired spectrum (1915-1920 / 1995-2000 MHz) basically nationwide and then they also own lower and upper AWS-4 (2000-2020 MHz and 2180-2200 MHz) everywhere it has PCS H block spectrum.

Most recently they (and their designated entity companies) were awarded AWS-3 holdings (1695-1710 unpaired uplink, paired unlink 1755-1780 MHz, paired downlink 2155-2180 ) I'm not sure how much of this spectrum they actually ended up winning because they still have to pay for the full price since the FCC decided using DE companies you own 85% of isn't playing fair.

    So, significant holdings.

  9. Interesting side note I just realized: If the rumored Nexus 5x camera spec is correct (Sony IMX278) then it is the same sensor in the Huawei P8 that had a full Anandtech review on it.

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9260/the-huawei-p8-review

    Camera review:

    http://www.anandtech.com/show/9260/the-huawei-p8-review/9

"Overall the P8 impressed a lot in low-light photography. I think it's safe to say that it beats the Galaxy S6 in most scenarios. The RGBW sensor seems to have paid off in that respect as the results speak for themselves.

However what makes a camera is more than just low-light photography, and while the P8 is able to hold its own among the best low-light shooters, it's the daylight scenes that are more concerning. Sony's RGBW IMX278 sensor just wasn't able to compete with a more traditional Bayer sensor when it comes to sheer detail in sufficiently lit conditions."

  10. Oops, should have mentioned I do have a 64gb card for pictures and videos plus my Google play music library ( 2 places I work at I like to listen to music and signal is either very slow or non existent) total space of the card is 59.44 and free spaces is 58.26, I'm good there. Only reason I'd rather have the 32gb is apps that can't be moved to SD card(with out root and etc stuff) and room for updates. I've had to clean my Papa's S5 4 times just so he could do a update, I have to remove 10 or so apps then update after the update reinstall the apps. Pain in the shin.

    Sent from a Note 4

Yeah man in that case I would just go for the 32GB. $50 is not THAT bad for doubling the storage.

  11. Thanks, I'm still on the fence about it. I know my note 4 has 32gb total and I have just under 15gb free right now. But how much of that is TouchWiz bloat/ carrier bloat. I know some of my apps are on my SD card and some aren't, I'm just worried about running out of space.

    Sent from a Note 4

I have a 32 GB nexus 5 and I don't think I have ever had a crunch for space. I think if you are worried you can EASILY get the 16GB or 32GB version and if you run into storage issues for movies/tv shows/etc put it on a 32 or 64 GB SD card. Class 10 SD cards from Sandisk often go on sale for $20 for the 32GB version.

That is probably my plan if I end up getting the moto x pure over the upcoming N5X.

  12. LOL, this reminds me of when Fabian Cortez and I went back and forth on whether the SIM Card fee on T-Mobile was a shadow activation fee. It is if you have to pay for a new SIM with Jump on Demand or EIP, was my answer.

Ironically Verizon isn't charging the activation fee or a SIM fee on their device financing. AT&T is charging $15 as their Next plan activation fee which is similar to T-Mobile's SIM Card fee.

Now if I switched to T-Mobile here I'd definitely go in store somewhere and port my line and make sure that I didn't pay the SIM fee, citing that I already did as a $30 SIM customer. It's the principle of the fee that aggravates me, whether it is called a SIM fee or activation fee.

You must have quoted me seconds before I edited my post because right now you don't have to pay an activation fee if you get a new iPhone http://i.imgur.com/vQ31Q38.jpg  :censored:

  13. You know what Sprint can do to make me dislike them less?

Get rid of the DAMN ACTIVATION FEES. I call and get them to remove them after the fact but even when it goes well and they agree to waive them the first call I still feel aggravated that I have to call in and ask.

I activated the phone MYSELF at HOME! Why should I pay a $36 activation fee for something that had literally no input from Sprint employees? I'm totally fine with paying the fee if I need to come into a store and get an employee to do it or to make it work correctly.

It just chaps my ass that I have to pay Sprint for doing nothing.

edit: To really get sand in my craw the new iphone has a waived activation fee http://i.imgur.com/vQ31Q38.jpg
