Now if only there was broadband internet in my neighborhood at home, I could petition Sprint to deploy a picocell in my area. That would be great for cell service on my street.

That could be a possibility. It sure would help for those areas that have minimal coverage due to interference from trees and other major obstacles.

Does Sprint have to have permits to build these picocells? And how hard would it be to get one put in a small residential neighborhood?

That is probably the single most brilliant idea of the century. Have the femtocell users provide coverage for their surrounding areas, even if it only covers 2 or 3 houses in the neighborhood. Unless of course the next airrave has a special external antenna that mounts outside your home to boost signal to a small part of your neighborhood.

You are right. Apple set their contract up with at&t from the very beginning to determine their own price scheme for the iPhone. They then allowed carrier subsidies with the release of the 3G, but they still determined the price. With the smaller carriers that are selling the iPhone $50 cheaper than at&t/VZW/Sprint, Apple may have been more lenient with to let them sell it at a lower price point, maybe to keep competition healthy. And even if there were no phone subsidies, the original iPhone sold like crazy at full price, so even a slightly higher priced iPhone with LTE under the hood would probably sell out in Pre-order stage too.

Apple determines the price for the iPhone by carrier according to all the contract info between Apple and the Carriers. But I wouldn't be surprised if the iPhone does increase in price with the inclusion of LTE.

Android Police has posted a pic that might match that last device on the Sprint roadmap from April. How about when the 3rd party retailer is selling at an 80% discount over Sprint? Would Sprint then consider price matching? I want to take my new LTE device and test in LA on the 26th and maybe even have it for this Saturday if I go down there.

So then the EVO Design 4G ICS update isn't far behind. How exciting.

It would be a good revenue generator now that as far as I can tell, at&t and vzw don't have ptt services anymore. Vzw may, but I don't see it offered at at&t anymore.

It sure does seem like that now, doesn't it? It's because it was so many years ago already.

The TDMA shutdown occured over a 2 month period, but was completed in March of 2008, or was it 2007? I can't remember which year. But from the very onset of the merger, they were trying hard to convert all TDMA customers to GSM devices. The advertisements came 2-4 times per month for like 2 years. I can't recall how many I shredded before I just gave up and threw them away instead.
