  1. Joey, I prefer this pic of you. It's the one I have saved to my contact list for when you call. It makes you look less like a schizophrenic at Oktoberfest. But so much for being anonymous... Signed, Dad a.k.a. S4GRU Robert via Nexus 5 using Tapatalk

  8. A few things here. Number 1...new microwave equipment with the proper conditions and enough bandwidth can run 1Gbps. This is not a microwave limitation. Number 2...I should not have said that the new Spark Turbo backhaul is capable of 3 carriers running at full speed on all three sectors. I should have said that it is at least sufficient now to support at least 1 20MHz carrier at full speeds and is a clear upgrade from the legacy Clearwire backhaul in place. It may be enough for all three carriers now, but I bet what is at each Spark Turbo site is highly variable. I think the point of the Turbo moniker is to let people know this site has been upgraded and can be expected to perform very well...much better than the average Clearwire backhauled site. Number 3...your points about Sprint NV backhaul, while being accurate to Sprint NV sites, is not currently the case for Clearwire sites that have not received NV upgrades (like Spark Turbo sites). We don't know Sprint's long term plans for Clearwire sites specifically, yet, as far as receiving Network Vision upgrades. We know they have to be receiving one hell of a backhaul upgrade to support Spark, though. Your point about NV backhaul will not become relevant until Sprint starts deploying Band 41 on NV sites in 2014.
  9. Yes, your LTE will come live when the sites where you go get upgraded to CSFB. In the Chicago market, this is largely just a software upgrade and should be done in the next few weeks. Robert
  10. To clarify, Sprint is still planning to take Band 41 to all its sites nationwide. However, there is no timeline being released for the entire Band 41 rollout. They do want to have all of the Top 100 markets fully blanketed with Band 41 LTE (Spark) by the end of 2016. It really doesn't matter when they get Band 41 to small markets that would already be covered with two LTE carriers. Also, the turbo sites are Spark sites that have had their backhaul fully upgraded to support the new throughput speeds. Whereas Non-Turbo Spark sites have the legacy Clearwire WiMax backhaul (often microwave) still in place. Non-Turbo sites will become Turbo sites when they get their backhaul upgraded to the newest level needed to sustain 9 carriers of 20MHz of TDD-LTE. Robert
  11. Complaints regarding Sprint need to be addressed to Sprint customer service channels. We cannot do anything about them, and we know that the legacy 3G network sucks. That's why they are upgrading their entire network. And we don't want our site clogged up with complaints. We all have complaints. But no one wants to hear them. Robert
  12. Yes. And Band 41 Carrier Aggregation happens in the future. At first launch, Sprint Spark is just one 20MHz carrier in Band 41. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  13. Carrier. Not band. Three Band 41 carriers. Not three bands. If you read all the interviews involved and put it all into context, Spark is just Band 41. It does not involve Band 25 and 26. Those become backup bands in Spark areas. Robert
  14. I saw that same quote. It is horribly confusing, but if you re-read it, it doesn't actually say they are aggregating three bands together. I assure you that Sprint Spark doesn't aggregate bands. It doesn't even aggregate carriers in the same band in the beginning. Later on down the road, Sprint may aggregate two or three carriers in just Band 41. I don't think any of the current "Spark" even support Carrier Aggregation in any band, let alone aggregating several bands. Robert
  15. Ericsson areas almost all have incumbent (same legacy vendor) networks. The NV and legacy 3G don't interfere as severely as with other vendors. Ericsson had 3G equipment supply problems for the first 9-10 months of NV. They didn't do any 3G in the beginning of Network Vision. Now they are going back and picking up LTE only sites and doing more 3G sites around the same time as LTE on new sites. Robert
  16. LTE can be just turned on. 3G needs to be done in clusters because of interference from non NV sites. Especially in Samsung markets. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro

  18. Sprint Spark coverage is just Band 41 LTE. Band 26 (LTE 800) coverage will be depicted in the orange with Band 25. Sprint Spark is not Triband LTE, it is just Band 41 LTE. They want it separated out because it is capable of faster speeds. Band 26 is limited to the same speeds as Band 25. The purpose of Band 26 is just to extend coverage, not speed. When Band 26 LTE starts going live, it will not be distinguishable on maps. Except for possibly pushing out the orange blob even farther. Robert via Samsung Note 8.0 using Tapatalk Pro
  19. Although I wouldn't rule this out, I was getting Band 41 LTE much farther from sites than WiMax. However, this could be because I was testing Band 41 LTE on a hotspot and WiMax from smartphone (GS2). Just the gain in a more powerful hotspot could have explained the difference. 20. I'm pretty certain this is the reason why the G2/N5 are not getting the update until early 2014. There is more going on than just enabling bands with these two devices. It is either a complicated software problem, or a hardware problem that can be mitigated with software. And they are scrambling to fix that in the next two months. That's my two cents! Robert

  22. Yes, it appears that the bars shown on the Nexus 5 are indeed showing the LTE signal strength. Robert
  23. If the panels are wider, they are actually narrow beam antennas inside. Robert
  24. I had to enable my developer options. It wasn't visible under the Settings menu. I wonder if this is true for all Nexus 5's, or just because I am on an AT&T SIM card. Either way, I'm now on ART. And ARTy loves to pARTy!!! Robert
  25. Umm, and I thought I was behind on my emails!!! Robert
