Why buy a Nexus again?

This editorial discusses the hiccups or screwups (depending on your viewpoint) on how Google is handling updates for the Nexus line. Although Google has already announced the update for the NS4G, will this type of delay continue once the GNex is introduced and the next version of Android is announced? Tells us what you think?

Google should have at least had the Nexus S update ready to go within weeks of the official Ice Cream Sandwich release. They should be leading by example, but they're only mirroring what we've been seeing of other manufacturers since the induction of Android. Here we are, four months after the fact, and the few Nexus S owners who were (un)lucky enough to get their update when the first bug-ridden OTA was released have either given up and moved on to a new device or had to install an entirely different ROM just to use their phone.

I hope that it was just an issue with the big changes from gb to ics

I'm sure you are counting on the ability to be one of the first folks to upgrade that GNex to Jelly Bean. I know I would be. It's one of the top reasons of buying a Nexus product.

absolutely, that is a big reason I chose gnex. Developer support and non bloated AOSP are the other reasons.

Sure does look bad when the Nexus device doesn't get the update before other OEMs were able to push out their version...

This update cycle by Google has been a real let down I bet for fellow Nexus device holders as they should not have to wait much past the current Nexus device to get their update...

I just want the nexus for gaurrunteed AOSP rom support even if it is unofficial. The Nexus S 4G had ICS roms two days after ICS was announced (which were built from SDK). They were actually decent and I used them for a while then got tired of ICS and moved back to MIUI.

Agreed. For the GSll to get the ICS update before the Nexus line is a colossal screw-up in my book.

It's not even that device really. HTC has rolled out official OTA updates to 3 decides for ICS already and that's the sad part of it all...that's sad part of it all. When one OEM can update 3 devices before the last Nexus device gets its update, its very questionable...hopefully for Galaxy Nexus users this is not a new trend...
