  1. have you read the Verizon forums? I know you can find dirt on any phone, but it seems that the galaxy nexus is in a league of its own.

That is true and yeah I have. But what they did to the Nexus is wow, just wow. (and not in a good way I might add.) If I was a Verizon customer and wanted the Nexus I would have been fuming. Then again they did basically the same crap with the HTC Incredible. (Its coming out tomorrow, oh wait, the day after, oh wait the day after that. Updates, oh yeah tomorrow, no wait the day after that, bloatware, oh yeah we got that covered too, etc etc) At times I am left to wonder who is the lesser of the two evils, Verizon or AT&T.

Personally I would love for Sprint to have the Nexus with 32GB instead of 16 like Verizon. But historically it doesn't seem to be the case.

  2. Going back to the Photon. I have noticed that if you do not have too many apps on the phone, it runs great, but if you are like me that has every app under the sun lol then yeah it gets laggy (especially when using any text messaging app and or email app).

it also does the following cons...

1-It reboots for no freaking reason every once in a while.

2-Much like the EVO, continuous plugging and unplugging the charge cable can possibly loosen up the connection for power.

3-Using any other data cable other than a Motorola one, will most likely not charge properly and or connecting to the PC will not recognize the phone.

4-You can root it but unlocking it will lose 4G.

    Pros...

    Excellent clear voice

    Excellent Radios

    Excellent Accessories

No drop calls (except when it reboots) lol

    Awesome World phone.

Even with all these pros/cons, I find it a better phone than the EVO.

  3. Every month after the 2 year period, you're basically throwing away an extra ~$14 [*] per month to Sprint if you don't upgrade. So, no, you don't have to upgrade, but it's in your best interest financially to do so.

[*] Assuming that Sprint prices plans to ensure break-even for the subsidized phones that cost Sprint the most. e.g., a $550 phone sold for $200 means $350 is made up over the course of 24 months at $14.58/month.

Interesting breakdown. So I guess I've been losing (or throwing money away) since I haven't upgraded my 2nd line HTC Hero, which has been out of contract for almost two years.

    May/June can't come soon enough.

  4. I was a hardcore EVO lover, but when they came out with the 3D one and all the others after that, I felt it was a disappointment. Losing the kickstand broke the camels back (strange but true), When Motorola came out with the Photon and being the first Sprint World Android phone, I jumped. Better radio, cool accessories, unique look, but the bootloader from hell. I really love the phone, but that bootloader policy has me so turned off that I vowed not to get another Motorola again, no matter how good it is. So its either a Samsung or HTC.

On the other side of the coin, it will get ICS which will make it even better, but by then I would have moved on.

  5. my take on your situation:

1-Wait till June. You already have a EVO and get wimax going to and from work.

2-The Photon is a very good phone, it has a better radio than the EVO. I've gotten 4 bars with the Photon as oppose to 2 or 1 bar with the EVO in the same location at work. But if you are into rooting and Roms the EVO (or more to the point any HTC phone) is way better than a Motorola one.

Removable batteries, I feel your pain. With the EVO it was having a charger at both home and work having it plugged in, as well as in the car. But if walking out where there is no outlet available, I would have to have extra batteries on hand.

With the Photon, the same thing but not as much. I've read that the newest Samsungs and HTCs have better management and thus lasts longer than the previous models.

The EVO is EOL and word has it that the Photon will be also very soon (as mentioned by Eric above). Teh Photon has great accessories such as the lapdock and I love it, but its still in its infancy.

3-While the saying is "the grass is greener n the other side", most fail to forget that it takes alot of maintenance (and money) to keep it green. Bottom line you may be spending way more going to the other side.

As Robert and others has mentioned, your area will be getting LTE and by the time its up and running, both HTC and Samsung will be pushing out their newest phones. Personally I would wait it out. Sprint knows that alot of the EVO folks are up for an upgrade in the June/July timeframe and are going to push out quite a few phones by then, that will take advantage of LTE. They know very well that if they don't all those that jumped ship from other carriers for the EVO line will have no problem jumping back. They simply can't take that chance.

As for the Nexus, yes its a great phone and all, but its a benchmarked phone, and being as such, there will always be other phones that are more powerful, and at times have more stuff that make it yesterdays phone. (Only thing going for it is the pure Android OS (and thats debatable with Verizon) and ongoing on time system updates (also up to debate).
