  1. So I have a rooted HTC One M9. I know that it is CA capable device. I noticed that the 5.1 Lollipop update was pushed OTA but it will not install on my phone. It keeps rebooting into my TEAMWIN recovery when I attempted to install it. Any ideas on how to get around that and to also enable CA over B41? or will I just see the speed increase when using speedtest?

You have to have a factory recovery installed before you'll be able to update via an OTA. Since you have TWRP installed you don't have a factory recovery. Best thing to do is go onto XDA and find a stock ROM that can be installed via a custom recovery (TWRP).

  2. Now I am really confused.

If you had simply stated other options, I wouldn't be questioning anything.

However, you state there are great options without providing examples or qualification.

I am interested in seeing what you consider 'great' metered options.

And if you think I am being snarky or negative, I am not. I am sincerely interested in seeing some specific examples of great (metered or not) plans, as I am sure many others who are losing clear service soon will be interested in as well.

We can't compare today's pricing of options to what was the pricing of yesterday's options. I'm talking strictly on the standard data cost options available from Carrier A versus the data cost options from Carrier B, Carrier C and so on and so forth.

    That's all I'm saying.

  3. WiMax has been killed off, are there any alternatives to something like Clear/ClearWire with a fair amount of data and cost?

You're not going to find something similar to the data cost of Clear but there are great metered plans out there.

  4. Well, I'm in day two on my Sprint M9. I have not been an HTC customer since the very original EVO so I am seeing this device through a different set of eyes than some. My two phones before this were the LG G2 and the Nexus 5.

First the good. This thing is amazingly smooth. It does not feel like I am even making it break to sweat when I use it. I've seen no lag of any kind. I decided not to restore from a previous phone configuration so I set it up from scratch which included downloading many apps and opening them and setting them up. I was doing all of this simultaneously with many apps downloading in the background while I open and setup apps that had finished installing. The phone never missed a beat. It got a little warm but nothing the caused me concern.

Yesterday I used it in the car for a 6 hour round trip drive which included running Google Maps while listening to Pocket Casts. This combination would tax both of my to previous phones. On this device I noticed no ill effects from running both of those apps simultaneously for hours.

I've not really ever experienced what modern day Sense is but I like it. I don't find it intrusive or bloated. I do not like how much padding exists around apps and widgets on the screen. I feel like they could have fit in another row if there was a way to reduce the padding.

The out of the box experience was horrible. It involved two resets from recovery to get to this point. After activating it online, when it was first turn on it performing android update which updated all of the apps. The phone activated and worked properly however it would not sign in to my Google account no matter what I tried including completely removing the Google account and adding it back in. That was the first reset from recovery.

As I began setting it up I noticed the WiFi Calling setting so I went into that menu. It began a profile update at that point and during that process completely disconnected from the Sprint network and my connectivity was dead at that point. WiFi calling did not show as active and I turned off wifi completely but I had no connectivity to the Sprint network at all. A reboot and manual profile update was not successful. I reset network services using the ## code. Still nothing. That was reset from recovery #2.

After that everything setup successfully and the phone is operating without any problems. If I do I reboot I still get a message everytime the android is updating but it does not go through the process of updating any apps. It is just a brief message and the reboot continues as normal.

Yesterday afternoon there was a large amount of updates to HTC apps in the Play Store. I assume that this was HTC making those apps available to the M9 for the first time. That is a great sign since we will be able to get updates without firmware updates. Curiously one app was called HTC Service Pack. Perhaps that is old news for HTC regulars.

Thanks for the mini review, can you do me a favor and post what the camera software version is? Oh and how is the battery life so far?

How is the rf compared to the nexus 5?

  6. It would also be different if it wasn't such a hassle to get rid of it. I had to call over a dozen times for it to get taken off then another 5 or 6 calls when it still showed up on my next bill.

That's due to the representatives that you worked with on the phone. Majority of store representatives can just call into employee support for you, they'll review your account and either it's updated immediately or they tell you how many months you need of on-time payments before it could be removed or increased to a higher amount.

Again, I'm going off of when I was an employee (2009). Things may have changed.

  7. Forgive me...but I honestly don't know the answer. What the heck is an Account Spending Limit? Is this just a limit your bill can hit if you don't pay the bill before they terminate service? And they charge a fee for this "protection"?

There are different levels of the spending limit. They may have changed since I've been there, but they were: $125, $250, $300 and $500 I believe. As long as you keep your total account balance under that amount (no matter how many phones you have), service would perform as normal. If your balance was over your set amount, calls and data were restricted on at least the main line on the account. If you paid enough to get under the ASL, your service would return to normal. Your service was never terminated.

  8. The ASL program should be retired.  Migrate those ASL subs with solid payment history to unrestricted postpaid, those ASL subs with blemished payment history to prepaid.  And any new subs that cannot pass the credit check for unrestricted postpaid should not be given an ASL option.  These days, those credit challenged subs should be on prepaid anyway.

Under your terms, Sprint wouldn't have many postpaid customers. Under the ASL, it allows customers with sub-par credit the opportunity to show their credit worthiness to Sprint, which after 12 months can open a customer to unrestricted service. Everyone's credit history can vary for all types of reasons.

  9. I understand why Sprint has the ASL in place to help keep customers bills down and stuff. But if sprint is turning a new leaf why now just do away with it cause most people see it as sprint is trying to take more money out of their pockets or just offer the service but for free?

The ASL is set up to protect Sprint from customers with sub-par credit running up a bill of hundreds of dollars and not being able to pay it. After 12 continuous on-time payments, you can sometimes have the ASL removed upon request.
