  1. Did you try going into the settings on your iPhone, turning wifi calling back on, tapping on "Update Emergency Address", and then on the page check "Remove wifi calling" and then tap done and turn off wifi calling? If you haven't tried that, I would suggest doing that first.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I just did the above on a Samsung S7 Edge and it restored my HD Voice calling that I've been missing so much. Does anyone know if Sprint has any plans to fix this? It would be great if I could use HD Voice and WIFI calling. Both are useful features and in some places I need WIFI calling.

  2. Seems the network throws you on B41 only when it thinks it can give you good service, and it seems to make that choice correctly most of the time. I've also seen a lot of B41 second carrier almost every time I'm touching B41. Otherwise you are on B26 or 3G.

  3. I received my Nexus 6 and Fi welcome kit on Tuesday. I've been testing it as my main phone (and using my Sprint number through Google voice on a secondary Google account) and some things are great, some not.

I haven't had signal check issues I don't think. But I've noticed that it likes to stay almost exclusively on t-mobile. Even with a strong band 25 presence, it stays on EDGE, OR W-CDMA. Have you noticed a GSM preference?

Yes, I cancelled my Fi account today for that reason. It makes very poor decisions on which network to use, almost always attempting to hold onto a faint T-Mobile signal when a strong sprint signal is available.

  4. Has anyone done any sprint tower mapping with Fi yet? I imagine it may be more challenging with T-mobile being available too. I suppose you could force the Sprint network.

I've tried. It's hard. Signalcheck pro doesn't update correctly. You have to manually open the map to see which band you're on. The notification icon doesn't update properly.

  5.

Did they even apply for permits at the Dogpatch site yet?

Yes, Sprint applied. There is one site in the dogpatch SFDBI has not issued a permit for, and there's no data in the permit database on what the holdup is either. It is stuck with the "CITY PLANNING---ZONING PLAN CLERK" office since 7/24/2013.

I guess I meant whether any more permits are needed to upgrade the Castro&Market tower.

Nope, the permit was issued on 10/3/2014 and it's 3G accepted, which means the NV equipment has already been installed. Probably just waiting for backhaul?

  6. Well,

Are there any remaining permits that Sprint is waiting for?  It feels like it have taken less time to put up a new tower nearby.  The tower density isn't great, and with this one down, I can't imagine how bad service at Dolores Park on a sunny weekend.

The site on Vallejo St and Battery St had it's permit withdrawn by Sprint:

Building Permit cancelled per applicant email (Maria Miller) on June 19, 2014.

The permit for the site on Castro and Duboce on top of the hospital there also hasn't been issued. It's been approved but Sprint hasn't paid the permit fees. $375

  7. The permit for the Sprint site on the Castro Theater was one of the worst. Took 2 yrs 3 mos to get approved.

The notes on the permit approval mention:

Approved modification to an existing Sprint macro Wireless facility. Increase from 3 roof-mounted panel antennas to 6 roof-mounted panel antennas (relocated to reduce visibility).

Sounds like they might have managed to get 8t8r approved with the original permit from 2012.

I know the backhaul was set back by the sidewalk construction. That took forever and was even mentioned in the permit notes too:

8-1-14 A separate permit from the Bureau of Street-Use & Mapping (BSM) is required for work involving alteration, reconstruction or repair of sidewalk, curb or gutter in the City right-of-way.

  8. I think with CSFB working and B41 available (probably?) during my commute. I think I'm almost ready to kill my T-Mobile service and switch back to Sprint :)

I wonder if the rest of the 3G only sites that are live in SF are just waiting for integration techs or if backhaul still isn't there.

  9. Quick question since I see a good few DSLR users here...I've been using Tapatalk for years; there's no need for image management since Tapatalk has their own image servers.

Who to use for DSLR images? I hate temporary image servers or ones that mess up your links (dead links across a forum are an eye sore). Is Photobucket still good?

I like Imgur. I have been a long time photobucket user but imgur seems to have a really nice gallery feature which embeds nicely on these forums. I personally just got a MILC and a variety of lenses. I've been shooting tower sites with a 50mm-250mm zoom lens lately.

  10. I've never heard of Swappa before this thread. The prices seem to be a little better than eBay average -- would you say that the transactions were fairly straightforward? eBay makes things so easy from the seller's perspective, so I'm just a little curious...

I'd say the selling process is about as easy as it is possible to make it on Swappa. It's very much designed as a marketplace for phones only, since the very first step is verifying your ESN is clear and ready to activate.
