  1. *Small threadjack* I just noticed that my Note II updated to PRL 55010. Is this a recent development for everyone or am I just late in noticing it? I seem to recall that the Note II, iPhone 5 and maybe another device were stuck on PRL 55009 for the longest time.

Looks like a recent development, I just got PRL 55010 on my iPhone 5

I wonder what are the differences...

  2. I'm just trying to imagine any carrier being able to actually have a network band backhaul to handle speeds that fast. The air link will be much faster than the network can support.

But I thought sprint said that their back haul could handle LTE-advanced?

  3.

No phones currently on the market support any of the 'advanced' benefits of LTE Advanced. And no specific device has been advertised in the future to support it either. So it is unknown which will be the first device.

Ah okay well LTE is amazing anyways when I can get it :)

As for 4x4 MIMO it may be a few years before technology advances to put that many antennas in a smartphone. That aspect of LTE Advanced may be only for larger devices like tablets for some time. Carrier Aggregation can be done now on the device side, but CA with three LTE bands may be a stretch.

Guess I gotta be happy with the 2x1 MIMO that the iPhone 5 does (yes I'm happy with it already :P )

On a side note wow you guys reply FAST o.O

  4. I have a burning question that I cannot find an answer to on the Internet (if that's possible). When sprint gets LTE advanced, will the iPhone 5 and the GS3 support the new features (Carrier aggregation, etc)? And what other phones can use LTE-A?

I will let Robert provide the definitive clarification, but my understanding is that S4GRU cannot be an advertising supported web site for several reasons:

    • Many of S4GRU's sources, who provide us with invaluable data about Sprint's Network Vision deployment, would not provide info to a commercial web site.
    • A for-profit venture -- or even the perception of a for-profit venture -- could leave S4GRU far more vulnerable to legal action from Sprint.
    • Based on our web traffic levels, S4GRU could not sustain itself on advertising. To use your conceit: S4GRU's costs > S4GRU's potential ad revenue

After reading the second point, I'm left with the impression that sprint doesn't really like S4GRU... Do they?

The SF Bay market hasn't launched except for Fairfield and Santa Rosa. More sites coming online will increase capacity dramatically. We also get lots of performance variation in unlaunched markets. Still a lot of work going on...with the network with the LTE cores. Nothing to be concerned about at all.

    Ah I see now, thanks

  7. Hm.... I sense congestion starting to happen D:

I keep track of 2 towers in my area regularly so I'm sure this isn't just someone hogging up the bandwidth, when these towers first got LTE, I could easily hit 20-25 Mbps download, nowadays though I get average of around 4-8 Mbps..... Not that I'm complaining about those speeds compared to sprint's 3G ;) Plus those speeds are within what sprint is telling us to expect. Just worried about congestion :( in cases where congestion DOES become a real problem, what would sprint do?

Even though we have 4G in our title, all Sprint related posts are welcome. Heck, soon we will all be using 4G anyway, right? We also accept topics for things not related to Sprint, but interesting to those who use these pages.

I appreciate your posts and it's good to have someone with your background around here. You are in a position to help guide our members and help set the record straight regarding subjects that you may understand better. Your insight is appreciated.

Hmm.... Sorry if this has been asked before but.... Just what does S4GRU mean? I can guess 2 of them but still....

  9. We'll see what happens this month, as I'm probably going to go over the 300mb.

Eh.... Ive used over 2 GB of roaming data before and 15 GB of on network usage, I've read somewhere that as long as your roaming usage stays under 50% of your on network usage(hence majority of kilobytes) then it SHOULD be okay...
