Is that just for the push to talk functionality? Or does Nextel still use separate towers in some cases?

Sensorly uses crowd sourced data. Whoever provided the data to Sensorly had only a 1x signal. It could be because the EVDO network was down that day. It could be because they were in 1x only mode on their device. Or it could be a Sensorly data harvesting error.
Robert
Cool thanks. Just checking. :-)

Quick question, is it just me or did the I-81 corridor between knoxville and the tri cities used to have 3g along it? Was just looking at some Sensorly maps and noticed now it's nothing but 2g. Does that mean anything at all?

If Maryville is anything like a lot of the tri cities area, data speeds are pretty abysmal right now. Be patient and in a few months we should start seeing major gains in data speeds.

- It could be that Sprint just hates you.
I'm willing to bet it's this XD

Luckily I get a great WiMax signal at home even though my area is just a WiMax protection site. Even indoors I pull about 8-10 mbps which is great for a backup Internet source if my Comcast goes out like it frequently does.

This seems to be consistent with I'm hearing anecdotally. That the EVO LTE connectivity issues seem to be solved. That the EVO can now pick up a connection mch easier and faster than before, as well as keep it much easier. It does seem from what I've read that is not a stellar LTE RF performer, but definitely still more than sufficient. I can't wait to take the EVO out for a spin in an LTE area for my own testing.
Robert
Well if you say it's so, then I'm more inclined to believe it now. That's definitely good to hear. Hopefully you'll share with us your test results soon. :-)

Yeah it'll bother you about USCC until you realize that they're a much smaller company, with significantly less markets with even less towers to upgrade. If they didn't get their LTE online it would just be bad for them. I'm sure we'll have our LTE going within a few months and then we'll be running circles around literally every other carrier around here.

Wow I never realized verizon was in such a pinch. Once the NV/LTE rollout is a bit more completed Sprint just may be top dog for a while.

Very cool . Love android as it let's everyone's imagination fly. Other phone screen shots just look all the same.

Trying to imagine an iphone screenshot thread. Would be hilariously boring.

Nova Launcher thing. Gotta have my gestures for notifications, settings, wifi, etc.

I have nova launcher as well. I didn't see an option to do that with the app folders. I'll have to check again.
Edit: Never mind, I found it. I like that a bit better.

Those app folders. Is that custom or is that just a samsung thing?

Sprint has more options to deploy more LTE carriers than VZW can. Also Sprint has half the customers. And Sprint LTE network is much denser than VZW. I'm not too worried about Sprint LTE capacity.

Well that's great to know. I really have high hopes for Sprint LTE. LTE will pretty much be overkill for my data needs. I'd be perfectly happy with 1 mbps down consistently. The prospect of having many times that is exciting to say the least.

I wonder how bogged down the LTE will be around where I work. Atm the 3g is so bogged down due the huge cluster of constantly full hotels that I can barely pull 100 - 200 kbps on a good day. Maybe I'll be the only one in the area with an LTE phone for awhile since most people around here tend to use a carrier that piggybacks off of sprints 3g.

I particularly love Google Now. Doesn't seem to a major drain on my battery at all. Sometimes it's a little creepy. Like sometimes when I'm out and the GN will pop up and it'll be like "Hey you should go to that restaurant across the street."

I'd like to chime in again regarding LTE connections. I definitely notice that once a site is added to the LTE log, it must scan more frequently because it connects quite well. The issue though, really, is that the EVO is pretty weak in LTE reception compared to the S3 and definitely compared to the iPhone5. I consistently see those 2 devices side by side with better reception. I really just think a weak antenna has ALOT to do with this issue overall.
I'm willing to bet that it's more attributed to the metal in the design of the phone. I've noticed that with all the EVOs I've owned compared to the more plastic competition. Just my observation. Could be wrong.
