  1. Just playing devil's advocate here ...but if you guys don't need it any longer (and it seems a lot of you no longer do).....then why do you care?

If a network isn't shi@#y enough to require the help then why go out of one's way to accommodate said unnecessary help? It begs the question.

I, for one, am overjoyed that I now have no use for it (nor have I - to be fair - for quite some time tbh). Good riddance.

There is an OTA of sorts (you won't notice it, it would be like a PRL update in the background) that will eventually add T-mobile as a secondary home network on the SIM card. They can then set which network is preferred from the network side, without any software changes on your device. What we'll likely see happen is that T-mobile will be kept as secondary home on the SIM, with equal priority as Sprint. Then they'll gradually shut down or replace Sprint equipment. When that happens, new/replaced equipment will only broadcast a T-mobile signal. So Sprint's network will gradually disappear and be replaced with T-Mobile only. You'll start finding yourself on T-Mobile more and more frequently until you never see Sprint anymore.

Why did that last part actually make me a bit sad? Like saying goodbye to an old friend who was always there but maybe you'd simply outgrown. Lol

Sprint's VoLTE here north of Detroit worked, (finally around Jan or Feb this year.) but was pretty bad.   Similar experience as yours... so i opted to turn it off.   Wasn't ready for prime time IMO.    I still struggle to use it.   I am anxious for T-Mobile to take over around here.   T-Mobile has a tower with AWS on it about 1/2 mile from my house.  Had tried T-Mo about 2 years ago with a pre-pay carrier.   The AWS worked great at the house.    Hoping to be able to tap into that again once things are integrated.

I agree with you. Was not ready for prime time. They held out for so long likely for this very reason and only just released it last winter on the eve of their merger with a seemingly much more technically savvy entity.  I can't wait to see what magenta brings to the table.

VoLTE has always been perfect for me on Sprint. Crystal clear. I definitely can't say the same for 1x, which is complete robo garble all the time (every third word cuts out) due to congestion. At least that's the case in Pittsburgh and San Francisco / Bay Area.

That being said, I've been on rural towers with a very weak 1x800 signal and had it sound very clear. So it's definitely a capacity problem. When 1x becomes congested, it cuts quality to increase capacity. In cities this results in absolute garbage calls.

For me it seemed to be the opposite, as counterintuitive as that may be. Even here very much in the city where I live 1x was great for calls. This was most pronounced in massive concrete parking decks or inside a big box store or elevator shaft. No LTE but could still usually make a call on 1x.  Was just generally far more reliable inside of structures and in urban environments, at least in my experience here in Atlanta.

  5. Out of curiosity did anyone have a respectable  experience with voice over LTE on Sprint? I never had a reason to use my data while on a call but when I had VoLTE toggled on, I'd always have garbled calls inside of stores where a band 25 or even 41 signal was available, nevermind band 26 (which always resulted in unusable data and calls that were completely unintelligible). It was frustrating so I normally turned it off but was trying to give it a chance as others seemed so happy with something that I had little use for and barely worked in practice. This with a Galaxy Note 10 plus.

Whenever I went to Atlanta I had nothing but good things to say about Sprint there.

He may have took the dog and left you with the MB but you now have a collectors item emoji23.png

Yeah this was one metro where Sprint got it right. Band 26 was always garbage but we had decent band 25 service and excellent band 41 coverage.

Ahh.. close but not perfect. that option is disabled by default because I want people to see the disclaimer that the data is often wrong (beyond my control unfortunately). It got the 3xCA part right, but your engineering screen shows it should've been 20+20+5.

Very interesting, indeed. Thanks for all the awesome work that you do. Hopefully this information is helpful to you!

It's not displaying anything, it would be obvious. Could be your device, or you might not have CA display enabled.. try going to Preferences > Display > Show LTE Carrier Aggregation.

I can't believe I never tried that before. But the answer would be no, it's not showing properly as it shows 3, 20MHz wide channels. That shouldn't be possible given the band configuration, right?

  9. Our phones very  rarely connected well to our magic box when I lived with my ex in the old place though when they did our service went from "meh" to very good. Where I live now I get great service with Sprint on band 41 even deep inside my apartment. Never less than 100 down.  But I've lived here a year and haven't once felt the need to even plug in the magic box. He took the dog and I got this silly MB that I've never even felt the need to use in my new spot?  At least my dating apps load lickety split here on band 41! 😂

Seems like they're serious about only selling devices compatible with both networks going forward. That's a good sign.

I sure hope when they start using 2.5 for TMO 5G, it doesn't stop working on my V50.

So I've been wondering this and I should know the answer but I don't.  The question is: do all of us with 4G  LTE phones lose band 41 for 4G?

I'm thinking that I read they can dual broadcast 4G and 5G over band 41 using the latest equipment but I'm not certain.  Any explanation would help.  Thanks, guys.

There was something going on today. For the first time I saw my phone roaming on band 4. Also saw it fall back to 3g in places it never did before. They are configuring the system in my area. Hopefully they don't screw it up :(.

Same here in Atlanta. Been suddenly dropping down to 3G lately. I hope it's just reconfiguration and is what I assumed. I hope it doesn't go on very long.

Something isn't right then. I've had no issues with VoLTE at all. One time while driving I noticed it beginning the cut out, and the network moved me to B26 (in a good coverage area) to presumably minimize tower handoffs and for there to be a lower likelihood of the call having issues. It kept me there for the duration of my call / drive, then I went back to B41 once I ended the call. Presumably that's how it's supposed to work, if the call starts having issues, then you get moved to a lower, more reliable band.

So glad the deal closed today. Maybe VoLTE will finally work for me here in Atlanta the way it is supposed to. I still can't use it inside of most buildings even with strong signal.  Ridiculous.
