  1. After reading as much as I can find on this, I am really starting to feel like the original Recode article just didn't get it right. I really question whether the deployments that are primarily targeted for government facilities is actually the relocation of macro sites or whether it is the Mobilitie small cell deployments. Perhaps the existing two tower companies are now understanding the reality that they're not going to be in on this small cell deployment business and perhaps they took Recode along for a little ride of half truths when it came to this story?

I think it might be true for new marco site deployment, but not for existing site

  2. Just look at rootmetrics and where Sprint has deployed the second carrier.

You do not need anecdotal evidence.

ATT and T-Mobile have been steadily declining, and Verizon has done everything in there power to hold there ground, but yet Sprint has been able to beat seem in sheer speed in alot of those markets.

Once Wimax is shutdown, we should have a better sense of the current state of the network without NGN.

Yes, sprint has 6 number 1 shared rankings. Yes this year both verizon and t mobile are adding carrier aggregation.... will sprint be able to keep up?

  3. I know that there I like is not the dominant division of the company. That's what point I was trying to make. The article was saying that Sprint is paying jobs of money to AT&T and Verizon. They simply can't be paying that much money to Verizon. Also, I think you're mistaken about the cash cow. The mobile wireless network is the cash cow. Their former UUNet, WorldCom, MCA, Verizon Business, etc properties have been rumored to be up for sale. Their data center and cloud properties are also up for sale. All Verizon will have left in a couple of years will be there us wireless network and BIOS in the former Bell Atlantic region.

ILEC is not where verizon makes its cash now. alternet, worldcom, and other companies they own are the cash cows ont he back end(aka tier 1).

I have been with sprint since 2006! At this point even by cutting 2.5 billions in cost, that cost has to go right back into the network. So there won't be any profits in my opinion. Sprint has to make the network cheaper to make profit. The 2.5 billion in cost cutting made sense, but then looking at the new updated coverage map sprint is still has a lot of 3G sites along most interstates...... still needs a lot more band 41/26 rolled out. Plus the smalls cells are expensive as can be i read in an article they are anywhere from 5 to 10 thousand a piece so that 2.5 has to go back into the network in my opinion!

  5. Oh easily! Now while the one tower I'm using as an example (B25/B26 only) is surrounded by full build towers with second carriers I know it makes this tower a bit faster than if you had multiple towers all at B25/B26 only.

On B25 I can usually pull 15-20 Mbps at normal hours and at least 8-10 Mbps on B26.

    That is great!

  6. I feel ya, I'm very grateful my home towers have at least B25/B26 on. But go a couple mile any direction and you hit 3G only towers.

So since the max speed of band 25 is 37 mbps. Does band 26 give you some relief to where u see about 10 to 15 mbps on band 25?

  7. I can say what David said is 100 percent true. Depending on which tower I'm connected to (from what I've seen) is anywhere from a -2 to -10 (on average) difference in radio frequency. Where B25 is at -88, I see B41 sit at about -92 to about -95 on one tower. On another where B25 sits at about -100, B41 sits at -108. Both of these are full builds (B25, B26 and B41) and have a second B41 carrier and IMO are fully optimized sites.

Nice.... just waiting to get it is frustrating.

  8. A) Given Verizon's small and decreasing ILEC footprint, I doubt there is much backhaul money going to Verizon.

    B) I've seen Sprint pass up competitive backhaul providers just to purchase from the incumbent. They have a lot of room to work.

    C) Most of their microwave link budgets are crap. Way too small of antennas... fixing that increases tower rent.

    D) 10G backhaul isn't significantly different in price from 1G backhaul, so they could aggregate towers via microwave fairly reasonably... at an increase in tower rent.

    E) Verizon is moving to dark fiber backhaul instead of DWDM or MPLS\CE, but dark fiber can be expensive. I don't know if Sprint has the cash to do the same.

    F) Sprint should probably just put me in charge of their backhaul and it'd be done right. ;-)

What is sprint biggest problem currently?

  9. Total tech dude is hit or miss. Very inconsistent with his news. I will believe it when I see it. I hope Verizon does bring back unlimited though.

It would only make sense. Especially since at&t is starting to offer it. I know there is a catch to it, but there are a lot of direct tv customers out there.

  10. Yes...? AT&T has multiple antennas do they not? So unless there's some sort of engineering issue like a weight limit, most of your typical freestanding monopole/lattice towers have multiple tiers, each for a different carrier with their own mix on antennas.

Cool. Thanks for the info. Guess ill just have to wait until sprint decides to bring this here.

  11. Nokia's (Nokia is the vendor for your market) 8T8R antennas help a lot with that. Thanks to the advanced antennas and with the help of beam forming, the usable reach of B41 is very close to that of B25, especially outdoors. Indoors will vary due to different construction materials, and many other variables.

I see. I did read about that in my research just making sure it's valid. Can these antennas be put on towers that are shared? Mine is shared with at&t.

  12. Do you mean DAS in general or is the one for the super bowl the same as the one in Disneyland?

Either way, each DAS setup is different. Different numbers of antennas, different equipment/vendors, different spectrum support.

    Sent from my LG G4

Yes at&t uses DAS for Disneyland.... im guessing it's best setup for venues.

  13. My exact situation. I report to sprint zone twice per week and they don't do anything.

The problem is.... when you only have band 25 it has to do too much. It has to cover in buildings as much as it can.... it has to handle traffic...but even getting band 41 im already seeing it with band 25.....if you are not within a half of mile to the tower the signal strength sucks. So im assuming it will be worse until small cells come along
