  1. Is T-mobile still doing the thing where the phone claims it is on 4G but the speeds are 2G? (At least Sprint is honest and just calls the low end of speed 3G.) Then again 1mbps isn't awful, guess I never got over the 4G fiasco from a couple of years back.

  2. Yea Clear uhhh no....to many people ticked about that mess, as described above....

Rather then a WHOLE change over, why not a tweak, finish up using your old paperwork etc. (instead of just wasting all that money) and also on a slight change, is more cost effective....  I have seen some name changes, and the shear amount of $$$ spent on throw away plus all new lettering and signage.....shhheeeeshhhh

Perhaps a Micro-Site in every new sign????

  3. Also, looks like the T-mobile merger may happen after the 2016 election. Wonder what would the name be then....?

    Fascinating Article Below:

Inside SoftBank’s Struggle to Turn Around Sprint. Two years after takeover, SoftBank’s Masayoshi Son struggles to overhaul the U.S. carrier

"With no way out of Sprint in sight, Mr. Son is re-emphasizing the positive. He says he is “totally happy that I did not sell. Because I see the light at the end of the tunnel.”

Mr. Son seems to share his thoughts openly, and though he wished to sell at one point, he now has no choice but to make Sprint work.

  4. I absolutely do not like the idea of bringing back/adding on the word "PCS" onto the name Sprint, even though I understand how it may help some who remember that better time for Sprint to possibly come back to Sprint. However, likely it'll be very few customers overall who do, as its been said many times in many places how the general figure of consumers do not usually associate back to a company's better days and forgive so easily based on that, once a company has already developed a long-standing reputation.

Either Sprint's network improvements with NGN will help its reputation, or not do much at all for it. If it does not, or more fairly to say while it ought to help its reputation to some degree, it may not be enough for what Softbank and Sprint executives want. It might be they'd want to try changing the company's name to help with that. Although, I think if they are going to change its name, hopefully they'd have other, better reasons for doing so, besides reputation. Such as aiding/unifying the overall corporate identity.

One more thing about the PCS idea. Back then, the PCS band was Sprint's main spectrum band of cellular communications, which Sprint advertised to identify it with their mobile brand. Nowadays, Sprint has three different spectrum bands, one of which (band 41), Sprint has much more of than they have of PCS. So, I doubt changing the name to that would be a good idea for that reason, as well.

Agreed on the PCS thing....just wasn't sure what to replace the PCS part  with.   Anyway like the Clear idea below.

  5. Not sure you mentioned it first, but a name change has to happen, personally I agree with the poster who mentioned Clear as a new name.

Personally I would go with simply Clear.

    However other options could be...

    Clear Mobile

    Clear Wireless

    or even a variation...

    Clearly Wireless

Clear* is an awesome idea.  Aslo, reminds me of the Crystal Clear Digital Calling Sprint used to advertise. I think folks generally had good experiences with the Clear 4G Home Internet Service as well.

  6. I have wondered about re-branding as well.

    • Don't rebrand before the Network is in Optimal Condition. Our local Telephone Company "Frontier Communications" tried the "New Frontier" thing awhile back and needless to say there is nothing really different today.
    • The Black and Yellow were originally Nextel colors which looked really great for Nextel.

      nextel_logo_tn.jpg

    • Spark is a great name for CA/LTE, but refers to a tiny flash of Light. I don't like that name for the entire carrier.
    • AT&T went from Cingular and back to AT&T. Sprint has an old well known telecom name too.I miss the old Sprint Logos.

      sprintpcs-lg.jpg

    • So I think I reccomend just changing the Logo to reflect back to the old Sprint PCS and Sprint Telecom. Modernize it a bit, but convey this message, "We are the Old Reliable Sprint PCS of Long Ago now challenging the Wireless Industry the same way we did in the Past with Long Distance."
    • Get buy-in from Nissan or Toyota since we are talking about Japan here and call it Toyota Wireless, Nissan Wireless, SB Mayoshi Wireless...250px-Renault-Nissan.svg.png
    • So I think I I vote for the old SPrint PCS to Come back, with perhaps the addition of of SoftBank

      ****Sprint PCS-SoftBank*****.

  7. Sorry guys, the speed tests I posted were at two different spots. I just never saw 30's before even with AT&T around here.

One unique thing is usually after running the first test, the next test speed is cut in half. So a 32mbs down speed will show half at 16mbs down on the second run. Definitely, not tempting to keep running them as the speed decreases.

I do keep a toolbox of cell phone measurement tools on my phone, which include:

    Signal Check Pro

    Rootmetrics Coverage Map

    LTE Discovery

    Net Monitor

    Sensorly

    Open Signal

    ...etc...

I hope that my posts help Sprint realize two things:

-They have a loyal user base of tech geeks.

-We care enough about the network to go out and check it out ourselves and give feedback as needed.

And with a bow to Sensorly, I will give it priority as my coverage tool of choice.

  8. All carrier hotspot....followed by the all carrier phone? You could get an international CDMA phone and do a dual sim on GSM for AT&T and T-Mobile...just no real good way to register a phone for two CDMA carriers simultaneously ....one always has to roam on the other......Also a bit hard to convince Verizon to activate a Sprint Device or Vice Versa....

    LTE may erase these limitations.

  9. Well I can report CA isn't in this area yet  messed around with someone's s6 when I was updating it and I got the same speeds I was getting with my nexus 6...but there's still always hope and on a side note, the shentel market speeds are really low...I mean lower then they were prior to b26, so now I really do see the difference in the corporate market, especially since we have b41 out here

Got this near the PA Turnpike Denver exit in the Fivepointville area. Downloads starts to fly on speeds like that.post-54939-143905475683_thumb.png

  10. The two aren't nearly equivalent. How many Sprint customers are going to use 1 GB in Honduras versus even somewhere like the I-70, I-80, I-90 stretches Sprint doesn't cover in the Midwest? Domestic roaming is capped at 300 MB because it is incredibly costly to Sprint.

Yes, and the coverage is better in other countries too! Outside Tijuana it seemed like I even saw cell towers attached to people's houses. Seems like zoning and town hall meetings are not as big deal there.

I wouldn't mind a bit more aggressive voice and data roaming here in the states, at least until we get inter-carrier LTE.

  11. Yes, it is a pleasant surprise.

No more worries about incurring all kinds of charges.

T-Mobile appears to have be doing likewise since 2014.Free International roaming data is throttled to 128kbs. T-Mobile has a high speed add-on.

    See article below:

    http://www.pcworld.com/article/2113440/on-the-road-with-tmobiles-free-international-roaming.html

It would be nice if Sprint wouldn't throttle the data....

Still don't understand, but maybe the agreement is reciprocal, like Telecel can roam in the USA for free or something.

Maybe they hope the average person doesn't use it.

    Anyway, great move Sprint!

  13. I think Wi-Fi calling has been working better the past few days as well. Here is what I am thinking. What if I set up the Asus Wi-Fi router from Sprint and Airrave and if Wi-Fi calling Goes Down the Airrave will pick up the coverage. Basically the Wi-Fi router would handle the main calling and the Airrave would be a fallback and support any non Wi-Fi calling handsets and handle the MMS through the Airrave.

  14. Which do you guys think is more reliable, the Airrave or the WiFi router. My phone has trouble keeping the WiFi Calling feature active all the time. Sometimes it says....enabling WiFi calling for an awful long time, but that is on my home router. Seems like the Airrave is a bit more reliable.

  15. Well well well, look what I came into on hempstead road :D

Lancaster look out here comes Sprint LTE [emoji583] [emoji583] [emoji583] . On a different note, in Ephrata I pulled in a 1x800 from over towards Lititz/Manheim. I don't know where but it was late and I guess signal was good because usage was low.

  16. To expand upon my prior post, I wish that we still had the "Roaming Only" setting.  Sprint was unprecedented in offering the setting, and it was useful in certain unusual situations.  However, it required responsible use.

Sprint still has the broadest and deepest roaming agreements of any domestic operator.  In many markets, VZW, AT&T, and T-Mobile provide no roaming fallback, but Sprint provides one or even two roaming fallback networks per market in the PRL.  We can only hope that continues.

    AJ

Thanks for the reply. Yes I agree it was probably good for them to remove that setting and control via PRL. I still miss it though  :)
