  1. I think the Admins would require the comments would be G-rated. Easier on the eyes and ears. Also, a bit cleaner language would be a bit more professional, too. Still, I appreciate the technical know-how this site provides.

  2. Don't worry. I run my fair share of Signal Checks and Sensorly Maps and Speedtests. And yes wireless nerd is possibly an apt description. I'm always on the lookout for where the next Band 26 and Band 41 deployments will be. I guess all I'm saying is that if a network would be denser I wouldn't check near as often, because it would always be there.

  3. What are you getting at here?

For example Verizon had the "Can you hear me now campaign?" with their test man. I am wondering if T-mobile and Sprint subscribers do more network testing than say AT&T and Verizon customers.

Are we just a more loyal bunch?

Or do we like the challenge of "assisting" the engineers with their jobs.

Sometimes all the mapping & Signal Checking makes me feel like an armchair quarterback.

A true wireless network should theoretically be ubiqitous.

  4. Well right now their plans and phones cost more than Sprint and their contract buyout takes 8 weeks to get processed and their website is extremely antiquated once you login to your account.

I wonder if they are going to do a aggressive version of Cut Your Bill in Half -like you GO into the store, they take all your phones, give you the GIft Card on the spot and reduce your plan by 30%.

Also, Sprint's Customer Service is better too. T-mobile doesn't work with you nearly as much.

  5. Great speeds there in Lancaster City and glad to see CA as well. Just some of that speed goodness to creep up north.

I will test next time I get through there. I got 16mbs down near Hershey Harrisburg and picked up 800mhz in Bainbridge in sight of TMI. I think Harrisburg must be Shentel land as well. Even saw a very nice corny Shentel billboard saying "Sprint- the Power of our Towers". I do admire their efforts to market the network to consumers.

  6. That should be a usable signal but is it possible that he is on a congested tower and that is why his calls won't go through (the voice portion obviously)

I can actually make choppy sounding calls that drop often. I just couldn't figure out the reading. It seemed like a really bad signal level, but yet I could do stuff. LTE data must be a different animal.

Any idea on how strong signal is necessary to carry a VolTE call?

Also is the signal actually "weaker" than CDMA or is it just a different way of measuring it?

  7. It is possible -- just not worth the added cost, extra engineering, and reduced RF performance. The rest of the world uses single radio handsets. The single radio paradigm shift with tri band handsets brought Sprint in line with SoftBank and the rest of the world. Otherwise, Sprint never would have gotten the likes of the Nexus 5 and Nexus 6.

Single Radio in my phone? I want 5 radios in my phone and a deep cycle marine battery on a cart behind me to power it all.

  8. Yes and it actually represents your connection's performance. You could have a strong signal but it could be congested and it will display one or no bars. It's what all signal indicators should go to, not just showing how strong of a signal you have but the quality and congestion of the network connection.

Okay, I am ok with better signal indicators, but I always liked the the fact that Sprints Signal actually meant something. Nextel Signals used to be so overly weighted positive. I remember when AT&T used like 3 extra bars in Rainbow colors to emphasize that they were raising the bar.
