I was traveling last week on Thursday and Friday but was able to get LTE on parts of Pena. At parking garage and inside terminal it was 3g and garbage as usual but not quite 1x garbage.

I should note that in the mornings, such as right now, it works just fine. Only in the evenings/night does it go weird.

Strange happenings at DIA the last two nights - aside from the underground alien city. My S3 will not connect to 3G out there at all. Looking at signal check, it reports an eHRPD signal, but says the eHRPD data connection is "unregistered". It ends up connecting at 1x. All along Pena to and from I get 3G and LTE. As soon as I turn my phone on in Aspen, 3G is there and usable, but DIA - all over the field- no 3G. Anyone else experiencing this?

I got into some trouble screwing with some settings deep in the hidden menus on stock. Eventually, I had zero connectivity on mobile. Took it to a Sprint store, and they fixed it in 5 mins. This was when the phone was about 15 months old.

Happened to me running MOAR ROM a little less than a year ago. Anytime I was in SFO and it would try to connect to LTE, it would reboot. Found out it was a kernel problem, but I elected to go to Cynaogen Mod and have had no issues since with the stock kernel that installs with it. I tried multiple modem flashes, none worked. Radio update didn't work, either. Look into other kernels, or other ROMs to fix it. 

If you haven't tried CM, I'd highly recommend it, just stay away from the KitKat builds for now. I'm running 10.2 stable and it's great.

Is that in academy and woodmen or downtown where is the 800 mgz lte at?? in the springs??

When Merlin says "Happy hunting", it kind of defeats the sport of hunting if he tells you where it is. BTW, the HTC One is not Spark compatible, so you won't be able to find it anyway, unless you have a spectrum sweeper.

If only there were such a thing as a small, portable camera that you could snap a photo of the screen with. Could you imagine how awesome something like that would be? ? ;-)

So just saw this morning I went from ehrpd to evdo-rev.a at my house. This mean t they are working on the tower by me?

Don't read too much into it, unless it remains on evdo after you reboot and/or cycle airplane mode a few times. I've had my phone revert to evdo multiple times each week for the past 6-8 months and nothing new has happened with the towers near me.

edit: If it does remain in evdo, I would tend to think it would show more of a "behind the scenes" work in progress being done in the metro area. Prior to the first LTE tower lighting up, my phone had stayed on eHRPD and then suddenly went to evdo for hours on end. Within a day, the tower, which is 25 miles from me, was broadcasting LTE. 

FWIW, I'm showing eHRPD in Arvada currently.

Who's got a break down of known, or reputably rumored soon to be Spark devices? I heard the S4 was going to be re-released with Spark capability. Any word on something along the lines of the Note 3 being redone? That is the only thing holding me back from getting the Note 3 when my upgrade is available in March. I'm not looking for Samsung exclusively, although it might appear that way. I just like the Note form factor. 

I got lte signal by I-70 and sheridan this afternoon, didn't map it because I dont have sensorly installed.

I'm guessing is coming from this tower

I've mapped that already. Very weak signal. I can't see what tower you are guessing, but it's no where near by. Highest signal I got was about -110. Not sure where it's coming from.

Sensorly shows LTE activity at Parker and 225, plus a hit at Arapahoe and Parker road in the past two days. I'm sitting underneath the hit at Arapahoe and Parker and can't connect, even if I force my HTC one to use LTE only.

 

Merlin, are these just being activated for a split second or something? Clearly not on at the moment.

Could this be a 2500 LTE hit, thus why your One can't see it? I don't know how Sensorly handles multiple bands currently.

Hey all.  It's been fun following this thread for the past few months.  I'm getting cautiously optimistic that we are getting close to the rollout here in Denver.  Got a quick question though, can someone expain what lte "network" we are getting here in Denver?   Are all the lte networks the same or are there more advance versions?  I've been hearing alot about 800/1900/2500Mhz, but not really sure what differences are or they they are implemented.  Thanks (and a particular thanks to Merlin for keeping us updated)

The 8/19/25 you've heard about are all the "same" LTE network. Each band has its own advantages. The 800 band will have better in-building coverage and longer outside coverage, but a lower theoretical peak speed. The 1900 band is a decent compromise between coverage distance and speeds. This is the LTE that single band LTE phones currently utilize. The 2500 band is for short range/high density high speed coverage. If you get a tri-band LTE device, you will be able to utilize all of the bands in the Denver area. We have a very large number of the 2500 sites already active, and the 800 LTE should start going live soon. Maybe someone else has better info about timeframe on that, as well as what the upgrade to LTE Advanced entails and what those benefits will be. 

Hey all! So I just went to Safeway off 38th and Sheridan and had an LTE signal for about three seconds. Not ideal, but hopeful for sure. There is a tower right there in the lot containing the new equipment. I am still a noob here, so try not to be too harsh on my question; once an LTE signal pops up near a tower, has there been a noticed pattern in regard to a timeframe for it to go live, or is it more a shot in the dark depending on when they can accept the site?

Do you have any way of telling how strong the signal was? Signal Check app or something similar? You may have gotten a weak signal from some other tower that was lost quickly. I've gotten a random, very weak LTE signal on I-70 right near Harlan before. I would bet that your LTE is from some distant tower.

As for a time frame for going full time active, everything LTE is on hold for the time due to some switching issues discovered when the tri-band devices were released. If there is an LTE tower ready to go, it will be brought online as the clusters of "fixed" 3G sites are accepted and activated. Consensus is that things are moving along very fast with the switching fix and majority of the towers in the Denver area have the NV equipment installed. Whether or not the upgraded backhaul is in place is another issue, but by the end of Jan, it sounds like a bunch of the 3G clusters should be online, and thus, any additional LTE sites that are ready to go as well. 

I was in Vegas last week, the LTE speeds I got just about all over town were as slow as 3G here in Denver. 200k ish.

 

Vegas has had horrific speeds since at least last summer on 3g. It was unusable at the airport. A few days ago, I had pretty good LTE coverage from the airport east a few miles, but 3g was just a battery suck, no data flowed. No lie.

I'm in Dallas and 4g service sucks, am getting 1.2 megs and not even one up, I hope once they deploy 4g in Denver it's not going to be like that

I've never had good luck in the DFW area either. I can connect to LTE, but often I get no data transfer or very very slow data. This is between DFW and a few miles north (Grapevine) and out to the NW in the Trophy Club area. Chicago on the other hand is killer from ORD along the L to downtown.

I liked the 41 updates to CO, until I looked at the map. . . 

But, it looks like Samsung is making strides with the switching issue in our area at least. Good outlook for LTE coming in droves in the not too distant future, hopefully.

Spend a few $$ and become a sponsor. We can't give you info that is restricted to sponsor level. Just do it; you can spend as little or as much as you want. If you can afford your internet service fees, and you really want to know about your local area, or any other area for that matter, you can certainly afford a few extra dollars to support the site and ensure it remains viable. 

So basically the actual process isn't being slowed, but rollout is? Basically they want to just flip the switch and the whole state goes live at the same time essentially?

To me, an "all at once" turn on seems like a much more likely way to implode the network instead of a piece by piece approach, but I'm not privy to the technical details of what goes on behind the scenes. 

edit: I'm now sorta-kinda privy to the behind the scenes now that I read the blog entry about the issues with the tri-band devices. That makes a little more sense now.

Nope. The tower ID's on S4GRU are Sprint's internal ID. There is no correlation between them, unfortunately.

Not sure of the carriers - Telus, Novatel? Pictured in downtown Calgary. Figured it might have some appreciation here.

In other news from north of the border, I noticed a large Telus buliding with the words "Telus SPARK" in bright lights on it between downtown and the airport. Interesting. . .

edit: Just looked up Telus Spark - It's a museum, nothing to do with the Canadian cellphone carrier aside from sponsorship.

I've been so wrapped up with the LTE deployment and the multiple bands involved, that I haven't heard anything about which recently announced handsets will support HD voice, and when will that be the norm going forward?

If this is in the wrong forum, please feel free to relocated it, mods. 

I only map trips when it's plugged in and I make sure to kill it when I'm done mapping the area of interest. 

I kind of liked the UI tweaks, but the map change and the horrific lag that was introduced was unacceptable.
