Wow, that was really, really good.
I'm contemplating just inserting this into our store's demo loop on the TV, see if anyone notices.

I completely agree. Something like the Moto G (whose cost has to be less than $200; the GPE is $179 (so $0 down and $7.50/month)) would sell like crazy.Budget conscious people eat up the phones in the $10-14 range. There needs to be more i feel like. The photon q dropping to 250 is a good start hopefully msrp will start to regularly drop now as phones get older.
It also doesn't help when Saygo/Prepaid devices have a different MSRP than Sprint devices, despite being the same thing. Price-conscious consumers notice these things.
If that does happen though, some system improvements will be in order. Right now, for the Preferred channel, we can't take any cash payment less than $20 for down payments or sales tax. That means when collecting the Sales Tax (which for Michigan is 6%), we can't take a cash payment for it for any phone with an MSRP less than ~$333. If somebody wants a Photon Q, it's $0 down, and $15 on a credit card, please.

Yes, that's the information I say as well. Which kinda seems like a mistake to me, as it ignores the BYOD crowd. My understanding is the only devices allowed on Prepaid are devices that have their ESN classified as a Prepaid device. Post paid ESNs will not work on Prepaid just like they wont work on Saygo currently.
Of course, for BYOD, you have Framily, which is a zero-month-term plan as well. Even with one person alone on Framily, for 3 GB of data (comparable to Sprint Prepaid's 2.5 GB), you're at $65 vs $60, and you can very quickly get that cheaper.
That being said, I know the Moto G and other cheapo devices would sell on Framily/Easy Pay if they brought them over...

This plan is only available for business Corporate-Liable accounts with a Federal Tax ID associated with the account. While that's possible for anyone to do, it's certainly not easy, and not without the will and knowhow to do so.Let's just hope there isn't any way to game the system so that somebody can get unlimited data even though they may not be using it strictly for business.

I may have just gotten off a conference call about Framily; without breaking our NDA, I will tell you that this very thing has been very strongly hinted at, if not outright stated.I am still looking on yahoo and goggle for any rumors of the subsidized phones going away all together at sprint. NO matter how i search it is not out there even in rumor. Either it is not going to happen or it is a well kept S4GU secret lol
In our store, Framily is the lead offer. All the price strips (like MacinJosh posted) are for Easy Pay. If a customer wants to get a two-year agreement, we have to grab a manager (or call one if one's not available in the store), and then when finished, email our district manager explaining what objections to Framily and Easy Pay we couldn't overcome. And, even if you do want a two-year subsidized phone, all the pricing is listed on a separate flyer we have to pull out from behind the Point-of-Sale stations. So yeah, the push away from subsidizing is extremely heavy.

Which is really unfortunate for those of us in West Michigan. While I agree that Band 41 provides more than enough capacity for the medium to long term, in the short term we have limited deployment and a low penetration of Band 41 capable devices. If nothing else, Clearwire to full 800/1900/2500 NV conversions would help some of the cell edge and in-building woes we suffer around here.No. There are no plans to install anything but Band 41 LTE on Clearwire sites at this time. They may eventually do full Network Vision upgrades and install CDMA and other LTE bands at Clearwire sites in the future. Especially if additional CDMA capacity is needed. But given that voice demands are going down, and Band 41 provides mondo capacity, I wouldn't hold your breath.
But if you get CDMA 800 and Band 41 near a Clearwire site, you don't really need anything else. You have a voice and high speed data connection. And Band 26 LTE will help fill in the gaps.

She covers that in her interview, quite well:One major difference I have with Susan Crawford - places like Seoul can deliver fiber to the home far cheaper because of the incredible urban density.
CRAWFORD: Well, let's take Sweden for example, very sensible country, actually just as thinly populated as the United States. In Stockholm you can get a connection that's 18 times faster than the one I have in my New York City apartment for a quarter of the price. In Seoul you can get a similarly, you know, many multiples of times faster connection for a fifth of the price.
New York City's peer city in this regard is Istanbul. We're paying many, many times more what other people in particularly countries like Norway and South Korea and Japan and Sweden are paying for far inferior service.
...
DAVIES: Is one explanation for the inferiority of our networks the fact that we're such a geographically large country with a population that's, you know, particularly an affluent population that's sprawled out across suburbs and exurbs and rural areas and cities?
CRAWFORD: No, because again, Sweden is just as sparsely populated as we are. And, in fact, something like 70 percent of Americans live in 2 percent of the land mass. We're pretty clustered. No, what's happened in America it's that we've gotten stuck on a plateau, that the cable guys have taken the wired marketplace, absolutely. They control it. The telcos - AT&T and Verizon - have retreated to a wireless, where their profits are more certain and they're not building out more fiber. And we're stuck at the second-class network stage, which is relying on cable for all of our wired connections.
They're never going to upgrade. They're under no competitive threat and under no oversight threat to act any differently.

Nothing new here for any well-read member of this site, but Professor Susan Crawford made her points very well, and I'm glad that we're finally starting to actually have the conversation about this. Worth the read/listen.

Let's not forget things like changing CPU Voltage and steps.
Or Stickmount for full USB OTG support on devices that don't otherwise let you do it.
Or SixAxis for a Dualshock 3 experience that emulates touches.
Or LMT Launcher for PIE.
Or App Settings for Per-App DPI and visual control.
Or XPrivacy for restricting application access to personal information.
Or, by God, just the incredible amount of things you can do with xposed. Go download Wanam Xposed (for TouchWiz) and/or GravityBox and just marvel at the options.
Or, lastly, the main reason everyone I know asks me to root their stuff, free tethering (barf). The answer is no.

Yes.
Titanium Backup, ROM Toolbox, LinuxOnAndroid, XHaloFloatingWindow, AdAway, Ultimate Dynamic Navbar.
I could go on, but I won't. But I could.
Oh, Greenify! I almost forgot Greenify!

But isn't that 50k including sprint and tmo subs.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using Tapatalk
Yes, that's correct, so my numbers were merely estimates. I figured as such: 1900 MB (VZW) + ~630 MB (ATT) ~= 2,530. VZW and ATT combined account for anywhere from 50-75% of total wireless subscribers in an area. Thus, a 20% increase in overall data usage gets us up to 3,000 MB (3 TB), getting us a close estimate of data usage. Not every person there had AT&T and verizon only. You'd need to figure the average percent of American cell phone users that have verizon and AT&T. Then you can math it.
For another way to do it, 2,500,000 MB [1.9 TB + 0.6 TB] / (50,000 [approx people at game] * 67% [combined ATT+VZW subs]) = 75 MB. 75 MB * 30 days = 2,250 MB/month. Once again, right around that 2 GB/month figure we see quoted.
-
Hang on, let's math it. Round up to 3 Terabytes of usage across the whole stadium. That's 3,000,000 Megabytes. 3,000,000 / 50,000 = 60. Yes, that's an average of sixty meg per person.Verizon users pulled 2tb and AT&T users pulled 630gb? So much for "97% of cellular users use less than 2gb per month." Imagine the overage charges inside that stadium.
60 MB * 30 days = 1800 MB/Month. 1.8 Gig. Less than the 2GB average quoted, but honestly quite close.

I use Sprint Direct Connect only to test and make sure it works on other customer phones. Nobody else I know has it, or is willing to get it, as it's only on a handful of high-end phones, and a handful of very-low-end phones.

Hrmm, bouncing off of what you said in your other thread...Has anyone figured out a fix for the dropped call issue?
If the N3 is dropping calls, but not when on Google Voice...
Well, first off, my "sources" tell me that the N3 Drop Call Issue is only on 800 MHz.
Secondly, if Google Voice resolves the issue, it might be due to HD Voice.

As far as I understand it, a client-initiated request for a new copy of the CDMA programming information for the device, including PTN/MSID, and more specifically, the Data Profile, including username and password, which governs EV-DO data calls.I apologize in advance if this is a silly question but I've always wondered. ..what, exactly, IS a "profile update"?
Any information beyond that will have to come from someone who more deeply understands how CDMA works.
*KSSHT* AJ to aisle 3, AJ to aisle 3... *KSSHT*

That's the error I usually see if, when trying to program and activate a device, something goes wrong. Similarly, if the esn\ptn\msid combo does not match.
A refresh is usually just a remote-initiated profile update. If it happens again, try that first.

Honestly, if they'd bring back Windows Mobile 2003, I'd be a happy man. I have no idea why that operating system appeals to me so much but it does.

Woah, what department were you talking to!? The vast majority of them only have the horrible generic "Sprint Hold Music". I'll likely never forget it until the day I die. I can hear it now...Just called in to Sprint to make a change to my account and was on hold. Recorded voices shared the followed fun news with me:
-Any Mobile Anytime is available with Everything Data plans! (Which don't exist anymore...)
-Sprint's 3G network is the most reliable! And they're the first to offer a 4G network! (Ummmm, how'd that go?)
Attention to detail goes a long way to creating good perceptions...

good thing the billing system is automated and has nothing to do with notes on your account. When switching to Framily, it's not like the reps add the $15/month fee or not. It just happens or it doesn't, based on a script.I shouldn't have to strike up deals for affordable cell service. If I wasnt an existing customer it would be as simple as getting on Google and finding a code.
Besides, Sprint won't waive the $15 fee for me. They even admit I meet the requirements but here I sit with 2 notes on my account saying not to waive it.

Actually, it's in the FAQ!

The Framily discount being applied within 2 invoices behavior has been there since the very beginning; reps were advised to inform customers of this. The behavior was only included as a warning; due to billing cycles and bill post dates, they cannot guarantee that the discount will show up immediately in every case. This was ONLY meant to be for when people join or leave the Framily, not at startup.fud
a bug is an unintended behavior of a program during the course of development.
This "bug" is shown as a small print disclaimer on the Framily page on the big yellow horizontal bar - https://now.sprint.com/framily/?INTCID=AB:HERO:010714:Framily:960x320
"Discount is applied within 2 invoices" and reps have to call it in with the higher ups to "fix" it.
This is no bug
They tried to pull one over on the customers and I'm guessing enough of them that called back to complain hence the change in direction
The discount was always intended to show up immediately for new accounts and switchovers. That it did not is a bug, as per Heinlein's Razor.
Trust me on this one; if it was intended to not show the discount on the first bill, it would have been outlined in the launch materials and communicated to store reps that they need to inform customers. While individual people may fail at this, Sprint's own internal policies are quite good at setting expectations for customers.
Additional evidence that it's a bug: it's not happening to every Framily switchover, only some. If this was an intended behavior, certainly it would affect all customers.
Lastly, if you're trying to make a point with somebody, please don't open with "fud", it makes you look like a troll.
