  1. Being a 3MHz wide slice being permitted, it would only initially allow CDMA 800. But that's a start. First movement along the Mexican IBEZ ever.

This is excellent news.  CDMA 800 could really help things in parts of southern NM.  Now if they can just convert these GMO's in Los Alamos and get CDMA 800 up here all will be golden.

  2. That sounds specific to your market.

T-Mobile EDGE is usually a little bit slower than EVDO. But e-mail still comes through.

1xRTT is a fancy term for "no data". In my experience, I've literally never gotten data to transfer over 1xRTT, in any market.

The closest equivalent on T-Mobile side would be their GRPS coverage, which is roughly identical in speed to 1x (in that, neither of them work at all for data in practice, and they both have a similar theoretical max data speeds of approx 150kbit)

When I was with T-Mobile edge was completely unusable while traveling at highway speeds. Nothing would ever load. It was absolutely terrible.

  3. This site is a monopole type setup also, maybe that will have an affect on performance?

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but even if the site has ground mounted rru's, which is the case for most monopoles, it won't affect the theoretical max throughput of the site.  Ground mounted sites only suffer from lower signals at the boundaries of coverage (in general) in comparison to tower mounted rru's.  You are likely seeing a speed drop due only to tower load.  The demand on the tower changes during different times of the day and will affect your speed.

  4. yes, HOWEVER they were for cdma 1x 800 hunting that just to happened to have evdo roaming in some areas. That prl is very old, and wouldnt use it unless your in a sprint area, unless you want to risk sprint shutting your line down for roaming too much (although may show as native on your phone in some area's since sprint's roaming agreements have changed since then)

I am not advocating the use of the prl just making it clear that it is there. I do understand it is primarily for smr, but there was a clear distinction between the sponsor and premier sponsor prl that the premier prl had extra "perks". Is it no longer S4GRU's policy to allow/condone the use of this prl?

  5. We cannot condone the use of the Verizon PRL's. However, custom PRL support may not work right with 7.1.2 like it did with older versions of iOS 7, so that may be your issue.

You say that, but doesn't the premiere sponsor prl thread contain prls that allow evdo roaming on carriers like Verizon?

  6. I probably have received a 'like' from AJ in the past.  However, I cannot recall the last time it happened.  But I think I may be the only one in this group who can say that AJ has bought him a Carne Adovada burrito from El Parisol.  And that tastes better than any like, any day.   :)

  8. Google would have to add it to stock android which is unlikely.

Someone already mentioned on this thread that Wi-Fil calling is already built into android.  I think the greater question is whether or not it would work Sprint's current setup, and if it did work with it, would sprint invest the time to implement it to a phone that probably has a pretty low adoption rate on their network?

    LG G3

I have to say signal strength on this is miles above the S3 I just came from. I know I went from a 2 year old uniband device to a brand new Spark device but damn. I get reception places my S3 never did.

I have a question. I have Signal Check Pro set up to show LTE and 1x. On my S3 it switched between 1x800 and 1xRTT. Is there a voice band signal check isn't showing? I'm not seeing any 1xRTT and only 800 in spots. Calls and SMS are working, but on what?

Your phone will camp on lte if you are an lte deployed area. When you receive/place a call/sms your phone will automatically drop down to 1x. Once you're done with your call it will plop back on lte.

  9. All this method does is automate access to the internal Testing.apk and its Phone info screen/menu.  You can just as easily use the dialer code or create a home screen shortcut to the Testing.apk.

    AJ

Yes, I understand that.  But isn't automation so much better?!?! ;)  For my situation, changing the conditions of the phone depending on what Wi-Fi I am or am not connected to automatically is much better/easier than even having to click a shortcut on the home screen.  Call me lazy, but it makes things easier for me.

  10. I remember reading a while back about people that were having a difficult time with tri-band devices and airave's.  I found this thread that will allow you to automatically change your phone to "2g" mode under certain conditions.  The condition I use is being connected to my home wifi.  I was missing calls at home because my phone was parked on very weak LTE signal and when a call would come in, the voice signal was not strong enough for me to receive the call.  My phone was refusing to use the airave signal.  Since the changes I've made using tasker, I no longer miss any calls.  I feel that this is a much better solution then having to manually change the preferred network type every time you get home.  This is just a friendly fyi for anyone out there with these problems.

Edit:  This method can also be used to throw your phone into any mode you want depending on the trigger you define.  For example, if you think that your phone will use less battery by sitting on 1x while at home and connected to Wi-Fi, then this method is for you.

note: it does require root access
