Because of my experience with Hurricane Andrew, I will always have a landline. Landlines work when nothing else does, and they're not expensive.

Good luck! I'm still at 77.6.36.XT897.Sprint.en.US. Just tried updating, but I get a "Your device is up to date! No update is necessary at this time."

. . . I mapped some more stuff near the air base.
Nice job!
I went around there this morning around 2 am, but the tower wasn't turned on. So, I mapped signals spewing from the tower by the Target -- the LTE on the Turnpike almost reached 152 street!

. . . does the GS3 have a LTE only mode?. . .
I don't know if this works on the GS3, but on my Photon Q, I go into Phone, dial *#*#4636#*#* and that takes me to a "Testing" page. I go into "Phone Information," scroll towards the bottom, and click on the dropdown menu. There, I found many connection choices, including an option for "LTE only."
"LTE only" means exactly that, so make sure to memorize and/or write down that *#*#4636#*#* code.
Edit/disclaimer: Don't shoot me if this messes up your phone.

Okay, try this one. If an 800 MHz site falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
AJ
Yes.

It happens for me once a month on average I would say. It can be any one of 2-3 different tones I hear. One is a noise that is similar to what I hear in absolute silence but is slowly amplified (hard to explain) then suddenly goes away. Another is a distinct frequency that is lower than that. It comes and goes quickly (maybe lasts 10-15 seconds).
It is quite random when they occur, I have gone months and months without hearing them then sometimes I hear them a couple times in the same week.
It happens so rarely and sporadically though that it doesn't bother me much. Should I be concerned?
Just stay away from loud music, or wear ear plugs.

Only if your ears are cable of hearing such a high frequency noise. In which case life is probably quite interesting for you. Sometimes my ears move out of tune and I hear strange tones myself. I have been hearing them since I was 5 or 6, the frequency is far to high for me to be able to hear usually but I don't know what i'm hearing.
My case is a little different and happened as I got older. It's called tinnitus.

A couple of hours ago, I drove, with Sensorly, to the 4G-complete Homestead tower at SW 104 ave and 248 street.
As I went east on 248 street, no sign of 4G, even as I'm almost right at the tower. So, I did the airplane mode on-off thing, and that did the trick.
I continued east on 248 st until I reached 97 ave, made a U-turn and drove to 112 ave. Turned north until 4G disappeared around 220 street. Turned around and tried to recapture 4G.
4G never came back. I lost count of how many times I went in and out of airplane mode, even as I was right by the tower. Not sure how to interpret that.
Too bad, as I really wanted to explore that area.

. . . I shot it on medium format color reversal film. But with the demise of photochemical printing, I probably should get a high resolution digital scan of my original film stock.
Yes, you absolutely must! It's too beautiful not to preserve digitally.
