  1. The problem is that while you already have these features with these apps, they aren't integrated into a one stop shop. Try sending a massive picture to a group of people scattered through Facebook, WhatsApp, and BBM. It's inconvenient, time consuming, and it uses data from your bucket to send pics and videos. Also, group messaging is impossible between these services as they don't cross platforms.

This new messaging service is definitely a good idea and it will be very useful to a lot of people. Especially for those who choose to stay completely off the grid (which is a growing trend). If ads are a problem for you (which T-Mobile hasn't added), then you haven't been paying attention to the top of your friends feed on Facebook. Its all ADS.

    EXACTLY!

    Exactly what I've been saying.

You hit it right on the head!

  2. Whatapp is, Hangouts is, Facebook messenger is. Hangouts and Facebook messenger also have a desktop component. BBM is. We are not talking about SMS. we are talking about real time chat. AIM has been around forever. Let's face it. This is about operators controlling the messaging component so they can monetize it, e.g. ADS.

Not everyone has each of those apps.

  3. The only problem with RCS based messages is presence detection. That part of the spec is optional. So until all carriers expose the names of their subscribers currently online it won't work cross carrier. Again, why should I use this instead of Hangouts, iMessage, Whatsapp?

Sms is universal, the others are not. I have friends with different operating systems.

    Sms/group MMS works for all.

  4. Embedded in text at the bottom of the video

Hardly a massive victory by any means. All carriers have a DAS at GABP, and there were probably many COWs for each carrier. Also, since testing locations were set up by T-Mobile employees, you have to wonder if they set them in locations where T-Mobile would perform the best....

Another note on RCS, Sprint actually implemented RCS based communications with "Messaging Plus" in 2013. This was based on RCS release 5.1. It was abandoned since then, as the most recent phone to support it is the iPhone 5.

    Why was it abandoned?

  5. I have no problems with it at all.

As long as EVDO isn't completely dead with throughput, it still works the same. Latency on Sprint's evdo is pretty good after NV. LTE dropping to eHRPD can still maintain the call, as long as your phone registers quick enough. It will even work over 1X data, but there will be a significant delay before they hear what you say and vice versa.

To prevent the double calls, you need to go to Google voice settings and remove your phone as a forwarding device (I.e. forward calls to Google chat only.) Then you will only receive your calls over data.

None at all, it works the same as before.

Calls can be set for only over data? What happens if you're in bad signal area?

  6. I noticed Sprint is one of the main sponsors for Lollapalooza this year. They will even have a "Sprint Stage." I have a three day pass this year and other than all the music and schinadigans I will be participating in I am also looking forward to seeing how well they will fair with over 100k people that will be in Grant Park over the weekend. Last year the service was mostly usable but not without sore spots.

  7. As are many other unlimited legacy plans. But this new offering is cheaper than any prepaid or postpaid data offering I am aware of, in the realm of limited data options.

It takes a legacy plan + corp discount to 'beat' this offering.

  8. That 1 or 2 in performance was later edited to only mean in major markets right? If so, that is the part that worries me. I don't consider my area rural or not that big (we have over 500,000 people living here), but it isn't one of Sprint's major markets. I am worried that my area is just about done in Sprint's eyes. And data performance has degraded big time here. I have also heard that we are one of the few areas that Sprint can't deploy band 41. I really don't want to look elsewhere as I have been with sprint since 1999, so I am hoping that they can do more here. I have been to Chicago and Cincinnati and love what they have done.

    Your city?

  9. Yup. And that's exactly why I returned the G4 this weekend. Friday was last straw. Battery was half dead after only 3 hours. And I barely got it to 11 hours by keeping it in my pocket all afternoon. I got my note 4. Battery life after 1 full day of use on Sunday has been stellar. Approaching nearly 24 hours since I took it off the charger and still have about 15% left.

The G4 was a beautiful device and felt great to hold but I couldn't live with having to tinker constantly to get a work days use out of it. Maybe a future software update will improve things, but I'm not interested in waiting for that.

Great decision. Welcome to the top floor ????

  10.

I already suffer from "What if". I actually did lease the Note 4 for about a week right before pre-orders started for the G4. I returned it because I wanted to try the G4. So I pre-ordered mine and went back to my old G2 until release day. I immediately regretted giving back the Note 4. My old G2 just felt like a toy afterwards. The G4 is a significant improvement over my old G2 and if I had never played with the Note 4 I probably would think it's a great phone and wouldn't think twice about keeping it. But since I did...

-I already suffer from "What if".

-I immediately regretted giving back the Note 4.

Those two statements says it all.

In his situation, it's a tough decision. Give everything back AND pay more for the Note 4 may be tough to swallow, for some people.

Not for me. I average 5.5+ hrs of screen time. I bought a 10,000mah ZL battery, now it's just sitting in a box. Factor in root, custom roms, and the almighty Spen. It's an easy decision for me.

After you pick up the Note 4, get the 64gb Samsung Pro sd card. You'll definitely be set.

Get the Note 4. You won't think what if.......
