    LG V10

Man I hope Sprint gets it. I'll goes lease it.

Was looking forward for the Nexus launch. Nothing interesting there. I think I'm getting bored with smartphone launches. Yet this phone is unique, and unique phones are way more interesting to me now. Come on Sprint!

  1. I'm surprised Dish agreed to this, they complied with the rules as they where written at the time (abeit not the spirit of the law). The FCC changedv the rules after the auction. Would a court side of Dish?

Ex post facto laws are illegal and frowned upon in the states.  I would think that Dish could win because they are facing punishment in the form of hundreds of millions of dollars.

  2. Hasn't passed the cost/benefit analysis. Almost no local population to substantiate cost for service. And the roaming that is occurring as people fly through at 80 MPH has not justified it.

I would like to see it. And there may be enough usage in Raton and Trinidad to support one site in those towns. I wouldn't hold my breath, but something could happen in this gap.

    Using Tapatalk on BlackBerry Z30

Cost of roaming is limited because Sprint is limiting to talk/text over 1x.  If Sprint had a data roaming partner, any Sprint user would use up their entire roaming bucket in that 2hr stretch of freeway.

  3. Yeah, 6MHz uplink 700.  40MHz on AWS4 which can be all used for downlink.  Then the recent AWS3.  The unpaired is 15MHz uplink which I think is nationwide.  Then the 10MHz of PCS. Plus Dish has been trying to get the L-band from Lightsquard (LTE Band 24) which they have all 34MHz of.  it has GPS interference concerns, but even with the proposed guard bands that still is another 20MHz that can be used there.

As is with the Dish spectrum they could do 40x15 with the AWS4 and unpaired AWS3.  I think this is the most intersting and what VZW would want to utilize first possibly.

Wasn't Charter interested in buying TWC for $50+ billion?  Maybe they'd be interested in buying Verizon FIOS, then Verizon could turn around and use that cash to buy Dish or lease the spectrum.  But if they lease the spectrum they are going to do long term lease.

I think if this happens, AT&T and TMobile will have to merge.  Long term they won't be able to compete unless they dip heavily into highband unlicensed.

VZW would be much better off going after all that highband.  I think 20x20+ over 700 and 800MHz is plenty for rural markets.

Hopefully though, if VZW makes a deal with Dish the FCC makes VZW offer an unlimited data plan of some sorts.  Maybe even make their spectrum protection sites offer wireless broadband or something.

  4. Why wouldn't Cricket been good?  ATT grabbed them up for $1.2 billion.  Maybe that is expensive?  But Sprint would have been able to add a second PCS LTE carrier in many markets.  What, I count at least 40 major markets.  Maybe a fourth they could have done two carriers.

The H-Block went for 1.56 billion and is nationwide, but incompatible with everything.  So Cricket spectrum would be a bit of a premium + the customers, and I'm sure a lot of the tower locations would help with cell density.  Seems like that would have been a pretty fast conversion for Sprint to make getting that spectrum shifted around and merging ~5 million customers into Sprint.

  5. Is it a Sprint only tower?

Two towers, one I park next and one I drive past I have seen work done on lately.  One tower they just installed new mounts to support additional future B41 antenna. That was a big let down when they didn't put up the new antennas.

The other tower turned out they were working on the rack below Sprints.  It is tight spaced tower, so the rack they were standing on they could comfortably access Sprints rack.  Was hard to tell what they were doing, now they are go, no changes. :/  Spent three days there too.  I don't see new equipment so maybe something was broken.

  6. I'm not seeing any Roaming+...That blob looks like off network roaming to me, albeit 3G roaming (EVDO)...

I see that blob as Roaming+ as well.  Defiantly medium purple and not light pink.

  7. Looks like Sprint updated their 3G coverage map.

    Guess work here

    Dark Red = Sprint 3G

Light Red = Off-network 3G Roaming (uses limited roaming bucket)

    Dark Purple == Dark Red

    Roaming+ = Off-network "Native" 3G (doesn't use limited roaming bucket)

Light purple Off-network roaming = Off-network 1x (uses limited roaming bucket)

What is interesting is it looks like USCC is a mixture of Light Red and Roaming+.

  8. How would this cause interference?

Yeah, I'd like to get educated as well.

As I see it, it is TDD, so that same 20MHz is used for both UL/DL and the ratio can be changed for more DL or more UL.  Making that carrier 100% DL I don't see how that can cause an issue with what is already TDD.  If required, and is easily doable, pad it with a guard or place that DL only carrier away from the ther carriers.

  9. That's because it maps cumulatively. In my opinion that's one of the weaker points of this app. NYC is showing as weak coverage all over because it was mapped hundreds of times over while the coverage was weak. Now that the coverage is strong, people aren't mapping nearly as much and as a result, the signal is still weak even if you map over it a few times.

I could care less about coverage strength. Each phone has its own unique RF performance and a lot are crap. I use it as a signal if LTE exists in a given location.

  10. And this is why DSL sucks.  You are still limited to range, DSLAM capacity, and user capacity.  The guys after a mile get really reduced capped speeds, no TV service, and further out you get you get nothing for speed.  Cable and Fiber is consistent.  They serve your area, everyone gets the same speed, same TV, etc.  If your area is served by DSL, everyone gets different speeds, and may or may not get TV service, no matter how many DSLAMs are added.

Im in a U-Verse market, and it is horrible.  Yeah, with upgraded VRADs the service is a lot better than before, but speed offerings still suck (can't compete with cable, let a lone fiber), few can still get U-verse TV, and many are too far away to get what is now defined as Broadband.

  11. The problem is, most people use third party apps.

So hopefully third party apps that support receiving messages via sms will support RCS messages so both ends can benefit.

Otherwise this is only going to benefit RCS to RCS stock messaging apps, which will take a LONG time to get supported.  Then I wonder how you will easily know if you are texting someone that supports RCS or if you are just sending a basic SMS message.  Maybe similar to how Hangouts lets you know if it is a SMS or Hangouts message?
