  1. So far it's a bit of a mixed bag for me, to be honest.

    Hate:

    - Apps that aren't yet updated e.g. Telegram

    - Mail searching a bit broken, certainly worse than before

    - Mail app search-related bugs

    - Right hand side "dock" opens unintentionally, rather annoying (major hate)

    - Shift key functionality seems backwards and a bit broken

    - I'm getting random word selection while typing which causes me to over-type stuff (major hate)

    - Swipe left and swipe right is laggy

    - Pinch-to-close doesn't always register my pinch; it worked perfectly before

    - Confusing use of saved passwords; presentation to user a bit odd

    - Definitely getting lag across the interface; never had this before

    Love:

    - New wallpapers (heh!)

    - Notes app redesign and ability to sketch; ruler function totally rad

    - "Breadcrumb" top left corner when linking to another app

    - Find a Friend app now has a widget

    - Ability to search through saved passwords - a godsend for me

While side-by-side is undoubtedly cool, as is picture-in-picture, I have no real use for these.

While not really an iOS 9 thing but more coincidental release, I still don't have the cloud storage options I need. I have, but don't need, 200GB. I would really like 100GB as an option, too.

Currently I'm storing 59GB in the cloud so paying for 200GB per month is an utter waste. I've a good mind to remove all my videos from the cloud and downgrade to the 50GB option.

  2. So my iPhone is definitely bent. I can feel the screen in the bottom right corner is coming out of the body of the phone due to this. It's not a big deal but I do hear it kinda click when using it sometimes. Is this something Apple would replace or would I just be wasting my time going to the store with it?

Also I don't mind the left search screen. Shows me News stories and what not I normally wouldn't see so I've found it at least somewhat useful.

I had a bent iPhone 5S. Boggled my mind how it happened. Without fabricating a story, I told my local "iStore" that I must have sat on it. They sent it in with a smile and said they would handle it. Apple UK replaced it, outside of warranty, with no cost to me. I was told a component "exploded" and hence why the phone bent. More likely a LiPo horror story.

  3. I'm using it. I backed up my iPhoto library before flipping over to Photos - just in case.

It worked really well - all of my albums were in tact, and I can see everything on my iPhone/iPad/Mac/Web. I'm now in the process of uploading over 16,000 photos from Photostream on my iPad to Flickr - totally seamless.

I successfully made the switch. Used up a lot of mobile data but it had to be done. I dread syncing my iPhone and then each device re-syncing!

I've chosen to have photos "optimized" on my device. The only issue here is that photos are only cached when viewed. This messes up sharing from other apps which just can't grab the photo e.g. Telegram and Hangouts. The workaround is to share photos from the Photos app outwards and not use apps to "fetch" photos.

  4. In South Africa, our baby carrier is about to launch a brave (or stupid) product. Uncapped LTE for around $60 per month. The cap is rumoured to be 50GB - these so-called uncapped products are funny like that.

They will apparently limit the offer to 150 users per base station. Some of us are worried what is going to happen to the speeds. In truth, I could sure use this service as I pay almost triple that every 1.5 months but with a completely unrestricted service. This uncapped product will be shaped depending on content - again, why LTE at all then? Heavy users should stick to DSL because even with low speeds, they seem to pull in excess of 200GB a month.

(Just a reminder that this is in the context of fixed LTE for home users that don't have a decent DSL service)

  5. It sounds like you have a faulty charger. I've had a number of those. The touch screen goes crazy when you have the device plugged into one. Just get that replaced and you should be fine. Do you have anyone in your area that is licensed to service Apple products other than the cell carriers?

Update: I'm now using a different charger, a 10W iPad charger. Same symptoms. Device has a complete slow down and touch screen is real bad (while plugged in and charging). Charge is currently at 98% so it's definitely not a power saving feature.

  6. @MacinJosh I'm waiting until the new photo service isn't beta before I activate it. Heard some stories that made me stay away.

Edit: okay doesn't seem to be beta anymore. Can anyone vouch for iCloud Photos Library? I use say the sync across all devices was always appealing. I usually have a "Inter Device Share" set up on Photostream to get specific stuff synced.

Regards iCloud storage space, yes, 157GB is what remains free of my monthly 200GB plan.

  7. Not even a week later and my Touch ID recognition is noticeably slower. I'm thinking I should setup as a new device as far as possible.

Please can someone double-check my thought process?

    - I can delete all apps and start over, that isn't an issue

    - E-mail can be synced again because of modern adoption of IMAP

    - Notes can be synced again because of the link to an e-mail account

    - Photos and videos can be moved off the device and back on after it has been setup as a new device. Main question is will all the metadata stay intact? I'll have to copy to and from a Windows desktop since I currently don't own a Mac

    - Music can be downloaded from scratch so isn't an issue

So what, then, do I actually stand to lose by not restoring from an iCloud backup? Document data, application data and history? Then again, can't I sync all of these again simply by turning on iCloud and making sure all switches are on?

  8. To risk going too far off topic, it's just that I've had so many issues of late. Note that I have renowned bad luck. Like being rear ended four times with my new car.

First it was my iPhone 6, then it was my replacement 5S that was faulty (the original was said to have had battery/component damage hence the bent phone), my mom's new iPhone 6 was stuck on the Apple boot screen for 20 minutes and thought to be a dud, now my Air 2.

    Sigh.

  9. Sweet, at least I have something to work with. @MacinJosh you rock! The worst is handing it in and saying you don't know what is wrong. Typing right now is as expected. I feel awful for hammering the screen earlier. :(

To answer your question, we have Core Group in South Africa but I'm still not sure what the relationship is to Apple. To confuse matters more, their outlets look like Apple retail stores and they dress like Apple employees.

    http://www.istoreonline.co.za/

So because I bought my Air 2 from Core Group's retail store, incidentally called "iStore", I can return it to them directly. They give excellent service and would do Apple proud. My iPhone 6 was purchased from a carrier so I couldn't return it to Core Group. That battle rages on...

  10. Okay so this morning it's clear that nothing has changed. My touch screen seems faulty. I'm getting like 30% accuracy and a lot of key presses aren't registering. I'll swipe the screen and it'll register a button press. While I'm typing this, if I tap *really* hard I can get my accuracy up a bit.

As a hard core Apple fan, I'm starting to lose faith. I've had so many Apple problems of late and the telltale signs are hard to ignore. :(

I'm now filled with such angst. Apple products just aren't like they used to be.

Edit: after reading that feedback from the above link, I'm 99% sure something is wrong with the charging circuit. Plugged in, my Air 2 becomes leggy as can be with the described touch screen problems. Unplugged it goes back to normal. I'm using an original iPad 12W charger.

  11. After my last post I wondered if Tapatalk wasn't messing up (like a memory leakage thing, or something, wreaking havoc on my iPad as a whole).

I deleted it earlier and things felt better. I've just reinstalled now. I'll test over a couple days before wiping my iPad completely. I hope I don't have to do that...a restore with LTE data isn't cheap!

Regards the Pages app, I finally got rid of it. Never had an app getting stuck like this.

  12. I've been marvelling all these months how powerful my Air 2 is. I love using it. Today, all of a sudden, the touch screen has become really unresponsive. I've never experienced this before. I'm also picking up a bit of lag. :(

    Wut.

Edit: cleaned the screen, shut down all open apps and rebooted. The reboot took longer than normal. Red flag. Unfortunately the reboot didn't help.

I also have a "null" app as of a week ago and cannot get rid of this thing. It was Pages.

  13. Where did you buy the phone? That sounds like a nightmare. :(

From my country's largest carrier. A disgrace of a retailer with serious ethics and moral black holes. It's become a power struggle and they want to show me who's boss.

I'd just love to get Apple involved and have them ban this carrier due to tarnishing the good will that Steve Jobs spent his life building. I'm OCD like the late Steve. I won't accept this type of quality from any phone manufacturer let alone Apple. If I could only deal with Apple directly, I know they'd see me right.

  14. It's funny what time away from the phone did to my memory. So the issue is not a gap as such. It's poor machining on the aluminum, or something. It almost looks like the phone was pried open at two points. And this is after opening a sealed box. Also the macro photos below show other marks, perhaps new. And the Lightning port looks worn (kinda pictured).

As I documented the issue for the first time earlier this evening, I haven't viewed the phone again since it went in for evaluation with the carrier. I'm shocked. The box is all bashed up. It still had the wrap on as I'm OCD like that. As did the phone.

These guys handled the phone like it was stolen property. Absolute disrespect. Like I said, box dinged and dirty. The phone itself had all the plastic removed and just the screen guard replaced again. That was *my* privilege to do, not theirs. Phone was filthy.

I'll have to pursue this in a consumer protection court now, as extreme as it sounds.

  15. I've owned an iPhone 6 for a month now but only used it for 24 hours. My carrier is holding me hostage since I've been trying to cancel. Now I have to "prove" the gap I claimed the phone has, which they deny. This is what you get for dealing with a third party when buying an iPhone. Fail.

I hope to photograph the gap issue tonight so I'll share tomorrow. I've purchased another two iPhone 6 units for family since this disaster and they're perfect. (Well one got stuck on the Apple boot screen for 20 minutes but since I got it to boot, it's been good since)

  16. #InLoveWithMy6

Parting with my 6 was painful. The lingering pain is even worse. It's a better phone than the 5S in every respect. It felt like a huge upgrade.

After turning in my phone within 24 hours for the video mic (resolved) and the gap defect, they rejected my request for a replacement. The phone is still with them and I'm now fighting a long contract cancellation battle. :(

  17. The iStore in my country isn't the real deal, I don't think. They leave much to be desired.

In a small (embarrassing) update, I figured out what the problem was. I should have googled before going in! :(

So it turns out the plastic film protecting the back of the phone also obstructs the microphone. The new video microphone. It's not the same one used for normal voice or for Audio Notes! Doh!

For the first time Apple didn't cover the camera so most people thought it'd be okay to leave the film on except for the microphone hole.

I reckon they should have a flyer in the box educating about these small (but important) things.

  18. So I started by resetting all settings...no joy. Then I deleted all non-Apple apps...no change. Finally I wiped my phone (after burning 30GB data doing an iCloud restore) and set it up as a new phone. The sound issue persists. So I've just handed my phone back and now have TWO phones in for assessment and I sit with nothing (granted the first phone was my fault).

    This sucks.
