  1. With Verizon and AT&T'S, it all comes down to how much money they can get out of there customers while restricting use. Those 2 could companies are what made up the old AT&T before it was split up. Being 48 years old, I remember a lot of the past.

I'm glad you bought that up. I think the bigger issue is through mergers and aquisitions ATT(Cingular merger) and Verizon(MCI aquisition) became tier 1 internet providors. In the case of Verizon it has seemed that they have become more aggresive in their policies and positions since then.

  2. And I thought that they got a new marketing company that were supposed to help change the face of Sprint. I think that they could go a little "darker" and more intense with their marketing. I do like their website, but their commercials need to get the point across and make it interesting and captivating.

I also hope Sprint reads all this and understands that that is something they need to do!

I think the Hesse themed commercials served their purpose even if Sprint stuck with them a wee bit too long. I like the new commercials for their amusement factor but I still don't think they are very effective. I actually like the AT&T commercials better than anybody else s. Especially the speed dating commercial.

  3. I agree. I think Chicago and New Yorks deployment will be something people will be satisfied with- a lot of towers overlap. I just want it to happen now. Couldn't they pull a Verizon and say "coming soon" like they did with that dramatic guy running through a field to a barn and throwing a lightning bolt in the sky? Gotta admit it got me excited and I'm with Sprint...

Verizon is like the Jesus network, they can do no wrong! I have gotten this feeling over the last 2-3 years that there is a very large group of people who are dedicated to seeing sprint fail and some of those people are so called journalist. Sprint seems to be extra sensitive to this and they should be at this point.
  4. Don't worry, you can get some pills online that will add a 3 inches in only 4 weeks if you conclude your 7in device is inadequate.

    Sorry, couldn't resist.. its Friday

"Dont take the best part of your life out of your life......." ok, I'm done. :)
  5. I'm really resisting the temptation to buy this tab. At first I was a little underwhelmed with the specs but then I saw the price! The only reason I am holding out is because I have to get a new laptop for school first.

The website shows 3G, 4G wiMax and 4G LTE speed comparisons. Unless you look at the speeds listed underneath, the bar graphs make the changes look minimal and would make a normal consumer not care about the difference of any of the networks. Any one agree? Thoughts?

I know Sprint doesn't want to set the network to higher standards than people will experience, but they need to give themselves a little bit more credit. Like I said before, AT&T has one of the better websites for explaining their network differences, and make LTE look super fast. Sprint is definitely a competitor, why set themselves behind?

I am happy that a site about LTE has been posted. Should get to their home page SOON to get some hype going.

I would like to see a commercial about "the network of the future is underway"- that would get people thinking and would probably give them a better image. Plus, if done right, and not in a joking manner it would be sweet! That is something Sprint NEEDS to do... maybe a few more markets first.

I was just thinking about this yesterday and I have a different conclusion. Fifteen cities with approx 40% coverage is a drop in the bucket. You already have un-informed folks complaining that they do not have an LTE signal in a particular launch city. I would wait until I could at least double my current market presence(from 15 to 30) and bring all active LTE markets up to at least 50-60% before I would make a big deal about LTE. I would also try to include bmore an chi town into that expansion to soften the negative boos from NYC and LA.

  7.

As for the critical writing of Sprint part, I think I now know what to expect. I wish people had noticed my Network Vision piece[1] like they did this. I put a hell lot more work into that one and it really wasn't noticed... The month of May was my Sprint spree. I wrote three articles about Sprint and all were hardly noticed...

    [1]: http://www.extremetech.com/mobile/129198-network-vision-sprints-path-to-domination

I read it and it was a pretty solid piece....which makes me wonder what went wrong with your more recent article.

  8. That is a shame its on the GS3 too, I was hoping that it wasn't.

On the GNex today, wifi disabled, came out of a building, got a signal, no data. Went into Starbucks, connected to Wifi, disconnected Wifi, then 3G data came back.

Is it a bug on the EVO too?

Yes it is. If I'm on a wifi network or on voice roaming, mobile data shuts off and will not turn back on until I am off of wifi, have a data signal and try to access mobile data. Sometimes I have to manually turn it on.

EDIT: I think there is a time limit on it and is a battery saving measure.

  9. word! I still lust over my Sanyo 7400. A god of a flip phone, IMO.

Those TP's can rot in H%LL. They made me hate them.

I still have my RL-7300. For its day it was a beast of a flip phone.
  10. the patents got thrown out for the way in which they were transferred to htc. it was a legal technicality and did not mean that the patents were useless or invalid. there are specific rules about how someone (htc) can use patents they license / borrow from another entity (google).

let's hope google learned from their mistake.

Exactly. Also this time Apple is also going directly after Google and not just an OEM.
  11. I just do not see this going as google and samsung may want. I mean if they had this in their pocket the whole time, you would think they would have used it already. If google plans on using the FRAND 3G patent, they will probably get slapped with patent abuse and lose the patents. The FTC are already investigating them for as much.

Plus, last time google tried to partner up(HTC), it got thrown out of court.

I do not think this will go as Fandroids are hoping it will go.

The last time Google did not own Motorola and its treasure chest of 15k patents.
  12. Well, lucky you. Down the road in Raleigh/Cary, my last speed test put me at 164 kbps down and 85 kbps up. Seems to be going no where but down lol. Sprints network upgrade map for the band aid fixes are doing nothing at all, as they show to have completed many around my area but the network has only got worse. Praying for a speedy NV roll out...

I notice that the speeds in the raleigh area have gotten really slow the last couple of weeks. I have even had a few instances where I had no 3g. I wonder if we have an early NV start.
  13. As with all facets of life, some people were born to bitch and moan.

True. But it seems as if Sprint is always considered an also ran by folks who do reviews and then when they do include sprint in reviews and comparisons they seem to go out of their way to say something negative while the exact same phone will be on another carrier and they will sing its praises.
  14. Granted I'm a UF Engineering School dropout, but I'm having a tough time wrapping my mind around how remote charging 3 - 6 feet away from a device. My physics knowledge would say that is impossible. Sounds like a fantastical rumor.

Robert, Roberto, Admin, Hey You! Its all good! But this was posted from my E4GT with ICS using Forum Runner

  15. Hi everyone,

I guess somehow I did not get my point across.

I did complain, but as a Sprint customer, I believe when they decide to offer a phone, do I not have the right to say, I would rather get it in the store than by mail. Which I can preference by saying I worked for UPS & know how they are required to work. BUT THAT IS NOT MY POINT.

I would like to understand how Sprint annouces the release date as May 18th (last Friday) and then must hold onto the phones till after customs checks them out. How is it that Sprint cannot announce the new release date? The supply is not there? But it was cause originally they were set for the 18th?

Do I care about the argument pre-orders versus non-pre-orders, No Apple people, that is not my point. I want to discuss whether the demand was higher than originally or maybe the whole lot is still working its way out of customs? Possibly there is a glitch with the phone software & HTC is working on it before releasing it to the other millions who like to have the Sprint sales person do the switch & boom turn in the older phone for a rebate & have the new phone a few seconds later.

LETS FOCUS....please use your intellect to decipher the code...What is going on....Sprint "should" have the supply (Inside Sprint Now never mentioned any phone shortage) to have easily chosen a new date. Is there another phone coming out that Sprint is considering challenging with the release....kinda build up enthusiasm by those who have it into those who do not (APPLE MOVE).

I did not mean to discuss the pre-order issue...I know I messed up there...MOVING ON. This site has great thinkers, I have read your posts. Lets get to solving this querry.

Thanks for the responses so far!

Gotcha. Honestly I think Sprint wants to make sure that they honor all the pre-orders first. There is also the issue of conflicting reports on the actual supply chain. Some say all were released and some say they were released per individual shipment. Were they all state side or in Taiwan? Lots of Variables especially when you are trying to play catch up.

  16. Sprint has control over launch timing and how it treats its customers on the wait list. According to ISN, the launch delay "has been for a couple of reasons, the primary one being the promise to make sure that all pre-orders are available before the launch date." This doesn't sound like a shortage, more like an artificial delay. Surely there was enough stock coming in for the launch on May 18; it got held up for a week, but it didn't disappear. Sprint could either treat DWL reservations like pre-orders and fulfill them before launch or just stop delaying the launch.

I think you are comparing apples and oranges. HTC manufactures the phone. Sprint orders a certain amount and the third party retailers order a certain amount. Sprint may be the preferred customer but unless they max out HTC's capacity I doubt there would be a negative impact on the next retailers order.
