  1. If they don't get Jelly Bean out before the SGS3 in the US I'll be purchasing a Samsung phone next time. I love HTC but they have let me down in the past two years. And if they hold onto the Jelly Bean update in order to push some users to the X+ I'll be actively campaigning against them, however I don't think that will happen. My biggest quips are shoddy update schedules, non-removable small batteries, crappy antenna performance and no SD support (exempt on my EVO LTE). They seem to be preferring form over usage factor and not listening to their customers!

I cant comment on HTC with other providers but I think the update schedules for HTC phones with Sprint has been pretty good. I remember the negative feelings a year and a half ago against Samsung and their very slow update schedule(hello EPIC?). I have to say that so far HTC has not been slow with the EVOLTE. Now if the New year comes around and we dont have JB yet then I may change my mind.

  2. Well, yes, it depends on the premium they pay vs how much spectrum, how much spectrum is available in the market, PCS band H, Dish spectrum, etc.

If they acquire Metro and then increase prices to compensate for the price they paid to acquire them, then it could lead to people leaving for competitors. Or it lead to higher prices for all prepaid customers.

    So Cricket it is.

I would agree to a point. They would be purchasing infrastructure(ie towers ) and spectrum to go along with the subs. Infrastructure is a fixed price point. Spectrum would have to be priced using the companies internal processes(ie what they think the market will presently hold). They should avoid paying a premium for subs that are mostly pre-paid. They can only increase prices on the former Metro subs to equal the present sprint prices. Raising prices on current customers in order to make the "math work" could be disastrous.
  3. Ok,, I'm starting to think my phones behavior is due to the fact that I'm always so close to the tower. After further test, when I'm at a point where I just assume I was out of range it would go to 3g. I installed the lte switch app and put it into lte only and I have discovered that I actually have lte in them areas. Not great lte,, 6 over 3 for speed but still much better than 3g. I SEE THE LIGHT, OK. lol. I now see the issue that everyone is talking about.

    EVO-LUTION 4G LTE

Exactly how close are you to the tower?
  4. As mentioned on this site, the spectrum isn't running out, its that the cell phone companies aren't building the cell towers close enough to each other. The more towers they have, the service area of each tower will be less. They point the radio antennas closer in. Look at Europe in the their large cities, they have cell towers in all manner of objects, people's house drain pipes, churches, lower power too.

Let me restate. The carriers mentioned will run out of spectrum that they presently hold. There is a bunch of spectrum still to be auctioned/sold off. The problem with that is the FCC has not decided when the next spectrum auction will be. Sure the companies can build denser networks but that costs more money and correct me if I am wrong you still have to consider tower spacing.
  5. Yes I did. I hope I made a few more customers leave due to bad service. But I probably didn't because their network could handle it and they just wanted me to switch to a tiered plan. So I have no regret. I wanted to $% them over like they've $%ed millions of people. I don't think you know the magnitude of which that I hate ATT. In the end I did nothing significant, but I hope I made some sort of impression on somebody (other than you and everyone here who now probably thinks I'm crazy o.O)

No fan of AT&T but spectrum wise they have the worse position of the four major cell phone companies. Going to tiered plans was a matter of survival and not money.

  6. I work in telecom, I understand to a great degree the differences in costs of shared resources. Further, I'm a stock holder of both sprint and clearwire. If I thought for a second that my (or even nationwide aggregate) use of 3g/4g data use instead wifi offloading at home had an overly negative affect then I might agree. But I don't.

If wimax/lte ever got the point where it performs like sprints current 3g service, then all of you may have a point.

The reality is that currently, the wimax, and ostensibly LTE, have sufficient resources to not require the use of wifi offload, now or for the immediate near term future, especially in areas where load is not over concentrated (such as stadiums/concert venue's/etc).

I pay for sprint service to provide data for my phone. If I use some other service to provide data for my phone, should I continue to be billed by sprint?

It is the principle of the matter, if you pay for a service you should be able to use said service within the terms of your contract, and the contract provider should be providing the services within the contract. Without guilt or ridicule from the moral high ground. No more, no less.

Sorry. i just cant fathom why anybody with wifi at home would not offload while at home. Additionally all statments made in reference to the wide difference in cost of infrastructure between cellular and dsl/cable are valid. Cellular costs significantly more. The last point is you mentioned that if Wimax and LTE started performing like sprints 3g then we might have a point. Well, wimax in some cases can be just about as slow as a "good" Sprint 3g connection. I have seen evidence of VERIZON LTE getting slower than their promised 3g speeds. On top of that both Sprint and Verizon are projected to run out of spectrum in the next two years if they stand pat(and sprint has issues with clearwire). New spectrum cannot be manufactured. Once it is tapped out thats it.
  7. A little perspective on unlimited data. My family usually uses about 2 gb a month so on the surface I would be fine with another provider that does not offer unlimited data. However, i do have those occasions when I blow past 2 gb. Like vacation or when my job deploys me. Just this month I had to reload all my apps(don't ask). Having unlimited data was great because I could do it on the fly and not have to wait until I found a secure wifi. What it boils down to for my family is we have peice of mind. I don't have to check my data every month. I just use my phone and pay my bill, the same price every month.

  8. So the rumor now is that Samsung and HTC will sue apple over lte patents, which both HTC and Samsung hold most of the patents for... As far as I'm concerned.

As much as I hate this whole suing litigation bs, maybe apple deserves it?

    What are your thoughts?

P.S. I'm not sure if this is in the right section, I just didn't know where to post it.

I absolutely hate the direction that we are headed in. I would much rather see all the lawsuits stop. However, I know the reality is that they will not and after all, Apple drew blood first. If Samsung and HTC see a way to exact some retribution then they will and frankly I can't blame them.

  9. I don't think I have seen anybody on this site not say that Apple makes a good product and they will sell like hotcakes. The issue that most people have(including myself) is that Apple continues to produce a product that is a year behind the times yet states that it is innovative. That's like the old american west airlines. They would charge you as much as Delta or United but the stewardesses would wear blue jeans. Once you realize that you have paid extra for window dressing you tend to be less enamored with the product.

  10. I am eerily good at intuitively figuring out acronyms, but for the longest time I thought that "SMH" might stand for "so much hate," especially as people younger than me these days seem to think that "haters" and "hatin'" are standards of the lexicon.

Dont hate on the haters while they be hating!
  11. It was already shown in a court of law that Samsung blatantly infringed on apple and that it wasn't by accident but rather by systematic efforts to willfully steal from apple. For all the Samsung supporters, I wonder how you would feel if someone stole from you.

I'm no lover of Samsung but I believe the verdict was flawed. From what we were privy to, Apple had a very circumspect case IMO. In addition, recent comments from members of the jury have placed their own judgment in to question. I really believe that there is a strong chance that the verdict will be overturned.
  12. Well.. the problem with that is since last September Ive had the following phones:

    (2) Samsung Epic 4G Touch

    (1) Motorola Photon

    (2) HTV Evo 4G LTE

    (2) Samsung Galaxy IIIs

    (1) HTC Evo 4G

All of them have had this issue. This has been an ongoing issue for me. I was on Cleavland School Rd in JoCo this morning and my phone didnt even ring and a voicemail notification popped up. This also happens to me at least 2-3 times a day. ALL of these phones have done this same stuff and I cant really say one has been better than the other.

Clevland school road between 50 and 42? i have travelled that route a lot and never dropped a call. I think there is a tower near Sauls road in Garner. i would download a tower locating program like coverage map and check to see what tower you are hitting. You maybe hitting a tower thats to far away or bouncing off of multiple towers.
  13. By chance did anyone else have their phone turn into a paper weight today? My phone went to reboot and never made it past the HTC screen. Phone was stock with no modifications. I don't think the update had anything to do with it but just wanted to check.

Mine started doing it overnight and it wont respond to a soft reset.
