  1. Recently moved to Mamaroneck, NY and I'm contemplating switching to VZ or AT. Sprint service is great in the Bx and most of Manhattan, but in Westchester I'm on 3G about 70% of the time. I got faith Sprint will improve B41 coverage here soon but not sure when. If anyone in here were to switch to another carrier, which one would you choose and why.

    Verizon.

Great voice network, LTE network, and now that they have launched band 4 LTE, speeds have improved dramatically and provides more capacity.

At&t is about $10 cheaper and their service is also great but one thing I enjoy about Verizon is VoLTE. It's amazing call quality and at&t has yet to announce when they will be launching VoLTE in NYC.

  2. My brother went to a concert at the Barclays center today and he said Sprint performed perfectly between 4-10mbs on B41.

Att and T-Mobile were both on LTE with zero data going through.

Luckily they did have WiFi to offload.

    Really? That's not bad.

I can believe at&t having slow data speeds but I'm a little surprised about tmobile; especially since they have wide band LTE.

I don't think at&t has those problems in every arena though. For my sis graduation there were so many people that I couldn't load anything on LTE and had to switch to HSPA+. When I'm at citi field with around 30,000 fans, at&t still flies. My friend in t mobile doesn't get LTE there, only HSPA+ and even then he couldn't send a picture text. He had to go on the wifi while on at&t I was getting 15mbps down and had no problems.

I guess at&t has to deploy small cells to help with congestion around that part of brooklyn. That area is very congested for at&t. I was there about a month ago a few blocks away from the barclay center and I couldn't even pull on google maps to get me home. It kept loading and loading. I eventually had to turn off LTE amd switch to HSPA+ and it loaded immediately. I was surprised as to how congested it was compared to a year earlier when I was in the same spot and had no problems back then.

  3. Regarding Verizon Xlte being very fast in New York City not anymore. I own a note 4 from Verizon, and after 9 months their LTE speeds have gone from upper 50s to low 20s in all the areas that I visit.

I said it before, and I will say it again once Sprint network is dense everywhere with every tower running 8T8R they will be the king of speeds and capacity.

Hmm interesting but LTE speeds in the 20s is still good. I'm getting 3-5mbps at home on at&t. I used to get 20ish down when I first joined them back in 2013.

I only got 1x at home with Verizon. Verizon has too many people on their network and it won't be long before their AWS spectrum also begins to get congested.

I had read that at&t has better LTE technology than Verizon being that they began deployment later than Verizon. Verizon's outdated technology still connects their towers by wire down to the base stations whereas At&t has similar technology than Sprint so it can handle capacity better than verizon. I don't know if this 100% accurate but I know Sprint has the best LTE technology than all the carriers.

  4. By September, ALU (northeast vendor for NV) should have CA enabled for incredible speeds (some are reporting over 120mbs)that other users are starting to see on Sprint.

Also, rumours are already floating around that the next IPhone 6S will support CA.

I thought the iPhone 6 already supports CA. I believed it was announced when Apple introduced it last September.

  5. I appreciate everyone's input. Very interesting to know everyone's experience and input.

Perhaps I will wait for the new iPhone and sell my current one on eBay then use that money to pay for the new iPhone in full from Sprint and unlock it after.

Sprint's iPhone always comes with more LTE bands than the other carriers so I'll have that advantage from everyone.

Though at&t has been great for me, I have noticed my LTE speeds slow down. A lot of areas in NYC it is congested. Back in 2013, my speeds were blazing fast and now they have slowed and in some cases, HSPA+ is faster than LTE but I can still browse the web and watch HD videos with bo problem. I have yet to see CA from at&t in NYC. I wonder how that will help and I would love to see their VoLTE deployment speedup quicker.

I'll stick with at&t for the meantime and perhaps join Sprint in September with the launch of the new iPhone.

I will add that Verizon's XLTE (AWS) is very fast. In northern NJ I was able to get 40mbps down and 40mbps up. What surprised me most was the upload. I had never seen uploads that high but in the end I switched back to at&t after 10 days. I was not impressed with Verizon at all. One thing I will miss is Verizon's VoLTE. It was amazing. Huge difference in voice calls and super clear. I loved it.

  6. How is band 25 & 26 in NYC?

I have an unlocked iPhone 6 that I purchased in full from at&t and I may bring my own device over to Sprint which will only allow me to connect to those 2 LTE bands.

I can now say that I have been with all 4 big carriers and the carrier that has been the best for me has been at&t thus far. I was with Verizon for about 10 days and I was not impressed to say the least. No service in my apartment and in and out of service at work.

With at&t I get full LTE bars at home and service at work though speeds are slow but it works.

With T mobile I also had good service at home but none at work.

With Sprint which I left June 2013 I always had service at home and at work. The only problem was obviously the super slow data speeds and back then I had the 4s which only connected to 3G which left me with a bad taste in my mouth and overall I had a horrible experience with them but now I know they have come a long way. Though many may question why I would want to leave at&t if I'm happy, well it is because I can get unlimited data before it goes away and my monthly cost would come out to $60 plus taxes whereas with at&t I'm paying $65 plus taxes for 3GB of data, unlimited wverything else and hotspot.

So someone please tell me how their band 25 & 26 is in NYC and northern NJ since these are the places I visit most? I know I can lease a new iPhone 6 from Sprint and get their tri-band version of the phone but being that I spent $850 last December to pay for my phone in full, it's really hard to suddenly let that money go to waste so I will be keeping this phone for a while.

Please also let me know how their 3G network is in NYC. I'm sure from time to time I'll see 3G on my phone and I would like to know how it performs now compared to 2011-2013. This one place in the bronx where my friends and I hang out at times I tend to see 3G on my friends Sprint iPhone 5s while my at&t iPhone stays on LTE and Verizon goes to 1x.

I seriously don't understand how Verizon got number 1 on the rootmetrics testing.

I will never again be locked in into a 2 year contract or lease. I rather pay for my phone in full and take my business to which ever carrier I want.

  7. i was at a mets game recently and my phone stuck to Clear B41. Speeds were sub 1mbps. Forced my phone to 3G and speeds were even worse. The wifi there is amazing tho, hit 20mbps before the game started. I also put in my tmobile sim and speeds were alittle better on both HSPA and LTE

Really? I thought Sprint B41 would be great at any sports stadium and yes, Citi Firld has some great wifi. I was getting 36 down in the first inning.

  8. I don't travel to Queens enough but it's safe to say that the other carriers also have cell service there too. Transit Wireless is the company who is setting it all up and they're doing all 4 nationwide carriers. The reason Queens got service second AFAIK is because the company is based in Queens. I can't wait until they do Brooklyn and Lower Manhattan (below 14th Street).

Have you been to Fenway? If you have, how is Sprint service at the Fenway?

I was at the Mets game for Memorial Day with 30,200 fans and At&t was doing pretty good. They must have small cells deployed at Citi Field.

I was getting about 16 down. I wish I had had a Sprint device to test out.

  9. I was at applebees on Emmons ave in Brooklyn last night around 10pm.

My cousin has Att and is not happy with them lately, speeds have plummeted. We did a speed test.

    Att: 9mb/s Sprint: 20mb/s.

I'm surprised Att is that low considering there weren't many people around. I didn't check if I was on B41, probably was.

i rarely get B25 anymore in NYC, its either B41 outdoors or B26 indoors.

At&t has really plummeted lately. I hope LTE-A can do something to fix their capacity issues.

They have been great for me up until about a month ago that I see a lot of slow data speeds.

I'm currently looking into Sprint again and Verizon.

  10. I was in Northern NJ today and At&t was amazing out there. I was getting 36mbps down.

When I was with Sprint back in 2011-2013, it was horrible out there. I couldn't even load Google Maps. My friend has Sprint and it has definitely improved.

At&t is having problems in heavily congested areas like NYC but outside they are great. I was in the Bronx and At&t is also amazing out there; 43mbps down.

By my house in Queens I used to get 25-30mbps down but now I'm lucky to reach 13-16mbps which is still good but on Thursday near the barclays center, at&t LTE was soooooo slow. I wonder if their small cells would help out there.

  11. AT&T is pretty much saturated everywhere, and if you think you will see some relief anytime soon you will be disappointed. The problem is they took their eyes offthe wireless division, and decided to focus on Directv, Mexico acquisitions, and the whole LTE on cars.

Att maybe will get some relief once they launch 2.3ghz which will be band 30.Still that will be just a 10x10.

I'm not too happy to hear that. This keeps up and I will be switching to Verizon or Sprint.

  12. Verizon solved their capacity issues with their AWS spectrum (XLTE) and at&t is staying behind again. They better work these issues out.

Sprint is still upgrading their network and definitely have improved but I just wish they had BYOD since my iPhone 6 is unlocked.

  13. I have AT&T for my note 4 which is unlocked and their speeds are absolutely horrible and hspa plus is faster then their LTE NETWORK and their voice service has gone down the tubes

At my job it has also gone down the tubes and this is voice and data services.

I don't know what is going on with at&t. I left Sprint for At&t back in June 2013 after growing frustrated with Sprint's slow upgrades and At&t was great until just recently.

Suddenly I'm losing service at work, supper slow data speeds, slow data speeds in BK, Corona, Sprinfield Gardens, it's really becoming frustrating.

I'm only sticking with them because At&t has better coverage than Sprint by the Grand Canyon which I'm traveling to next month and when I come back and it hasn't improved, I'm switching to Verizon or Sprint.

    This is ridiculous.

  14. I know there's LTE in that area but u haven't run any speed test. I gotchu next time I go to church.

    Thanks.

I was around the area yesterday and at one point I was 2 miles from the Barclay Center near 197 Atlantic Ave and at&t was crawling. I couldn't even load Google Maps.

I was on their band 17 with one bar of service. I had to turn off LTE and switch to HSPA+ and Google Maps loaded instantly.

Very frustrating. At&t better be doing something about capacity because I have noticed their speeds slow down a lot compared to 2013 when I first joined them.

  15. I'm a Sprint customer again as of the last two weeks, after switching to T-Mobile the 2nd week of October last year. Currently using a 6 Plus. Purchased an S5 around May of last year, and returned it for a Note 3 (Preferred the device, and I picked up no B41 across LA, at all.) Needless to say, B25 leaves alot to be desired Haha. Fast forward 2 1/2 months, and Sprint has vastly improved across Beverly Hills/Culver City/South LA/Inglewood/Torrance and more. Pick up TONS of B41 all over the place. Speeds arent too crazy, but not seeing my phone drop down to 3G and being able to stream/download as I would want to has left me impressed with Sprints progress so far, especially after waiting 2 years for Network Vision improvements. I cant wait to get that B26 love and penetration!

Why did you switch back to Sprint?

  16. I was once again by Bay Ridge in Brooklyn and I tested out speeds on Band 25, Band 41, and 3G.

These tests were performed on my friends iPhone 6 and this is what I got:

    Band 41: 11.36 down 8.96 up 42ms ping

    Band 25: 2.23 down and 1.72 up 66ms ping

    3G: 1.23 down 0.96 up 96ms ping

These tests were performed at 7:30pm.

I must say I was blown away by Sprints 3G speeds. It was consistent when I ran the test twice.

Band 41 wasn't crazy fast compared to other results that I have seen but you can browse videos and do anything with those speeds I got.

Band 25 was slow but enough to allow anyone to watch a video and social media.

Overall, I am very impressed with Sprints speeds and improvements.

  17. At&t is great but the data caps can certainly be frustrating and with Sprint providing unlimited data, I won't have to watch my usage.

At&t is now offering rollover data and maybe that will help me a lot but I still want unlimited.

A friend of mine averages 9-10gb of data a month and never has to worry about caps or overage fees. Awesome feeling.. Makes me jealous all the time.

I'm very impressed at how much Sprint has improved. They have come a long way from 2011-2012 when I had them.

  18. I still do not get the fascination over VoLTE / talking and surfing simultaneously. Maybe because I don't recall every having it or using it (on other carriers), but especially because I have yet to get a good example/reason of why it would be necessary. But that's for another thread.

In regards to using Google voice full integration/Hangouts dialer, I downloaded it a while back but haven't figured out how to use it properly to simulate Talk and surf (to see what all the big deal was about ) but I was lazy to go search for proper instructions on how to do it. lol

As for NYC, I love the progress that has been made since last year. No complaints. Even in the areas I've ventured into Long Island have improved. I go out there every three weeks and every time the network gets better on the areas we go to.

It's funny, 2 years ago, my friends on Verizon and T-Mobile were happy and those on Sprint were not. Now they are not so happy and the ones on Sprint are loving the network. :D

My job requires me to constantly be emailing and calling my clients so talking and being able to pull up an email at the same time is something I do everyday. Is a must for me and to suddenly lose that would be a big blow to me, unless of course I'm on wi-fi.
