  1. For those of you who love slide-out keyboards on your phones, here's an interesting article on what the future might hold to satisfy both those who like to feel the keys and those who prefer the thinner phones with no keyboard:

Looks really cool. Don't know how far from implementation in real-world phones it would be, or whether any manufacturers would be interested. As a consumer, I know I would be.

Edit: Missed at the end of the article, they expect products mid-2013:

Tactus has partnered with Touch Revolution, a touchscreen manufacturer. The first Tactus products will be available by mid-2013, Ciesla said.

  2. I'm in Sandy Springs and still haven't gotten "the text." I did get the fastest 3g speedtest result early this morning. It was 2210k down and 1500k up on 3g so something is going on.

This is like waiting for Santa Claus to show up.

"All I want for Christmas is my LTE. My LTE. My LTE. All I want for Christmas is my LTE, then I could text you Merry Christmas."

  3. I guess it's getting it from the cell network then. I'm not too familiar with how that works.

Probably time to call Sprint and let them know, so they can get a code fix out for it. Especially if multiple people are seeing it.

  4. I plan on buying the EVO LTE outright here in the next month or two, myself. There is no discounts on your plan. Pros are you keep your upgrade eligibility for the future and you are not in contract. So, That being said, if i had an upgrade, I'd probably use it.

Whether you are on a contract or not is a tricky question. I wanted to add an old phone I had to a new line on my account for my in-laws who were in town for a couple of months. Sprint told me the new line had to go under a 2 year contract even if I had my own phone.

If you're just switching an existing line that you've had for more than 2 years over to the new phone that you bought, I would agree. Still keep your upgrade eligibility and not in a contract.

  5. No one knows. In docs I have seen say Sprint "Business Teams" will make the final determination. However, none of my sources are even sure who these "Business Teams" even are. Once we know, we will be certain to let you know.

Uh oh... Can you see how this doomsday scenario could play out?

NV doesn't go live until 2014 when Dan Hesse finally asks who is on these "Business Teams" and everyone realizes they don't exist. By then, all towers have been ready to go for a while, so Sprint flips the switch nationwide overnight 2 years from today.

  6. Will this phone support HD Voice when all of the NV upgrades are complete? The HTC EVO 4G LTE specifically states it does but this does not. I figure that could be just because it is a carrier specific item. Is there anyway to tell just by looking out the radio bands/specs?

Good question, I'd like to know too. I did see this in the announcement:

The anticipated launch of these large metropolitan areas demonstrates the continued commitment by Sprint to invest in its network through Network Vision. Sprint customers in these areas should soon enjoy ultra-fast data speeds and improved 3G voice quality.

But I don't know for sure if "improved 3G voice quality" means HD voice or not.

  7. They're losing customers in this market left and right because of that. Financially it makes sense do hold off on backhauling. I guess my comments are just my verbal form of frustration.

I don't think Robert meant to imply that they were holding off on backhaul updates. What he was saying was that Sprint isn't waiting for backhaul to be ready before they turn on NV for a site. The original plan was to put NV equipment in place but not enable everything for that site until the backhaul was ready.

Instead, they are putting in the NV equipment and connecting it to the legacy backhaul until the new backhaul is ready. Then they will got back and switch that tower to the new backhaul when it's available.

  8. Thanks Robert. I was thinking it was this way but just wanted to be sure. And of course he's getting gouged and raped for it, he has ATT, they seem to try to punish anyone that still has the "iPhone plan."

I've been to Europe for work with my non-international Sprint phone so couldn't use texting or the phone. But with the availability of Wi-Fi, sending/receiving e-mails worked well and I could just check those from my phone whenever I was connected (which was most of the time anyway). And is free in most places.

  9. Robert can you tell what's scheduled to be done on these sites in the near future NY60XC155, NY05XC315

Sprint tells me upgrades are to be performed on June 14. I can't even complete a speed test when in the vicinity of these towers.

    Thanks.

From the maps in the Premier Sponsors forum, work for NY60XC155 started a few days ago and NY05XC315 is scheduled to start in a couple weeks. Scheuduled to be online in the mid to late July timeframe, assuming the schedule there still holds.

  10. I've since called around to other Walmarts in the area and two of 5 had at least one EVO LTE in stock. Soo.. for those of you waiting to get your hands on an EVO LTE, you may want to start dialing Wally World to see if they might have stock - or even just walk in and check their case, because THEY may not even know they have it. The price for it here was $158.

I was in Wal-Mart Sunday in Durham, NC and just happened to look out of curiosity. Their Sprint handset line-up was pretty ragged and, unfortunately, no new Evo 4G LTE's. I'll have to call a couple others around to see if any are floating around.
