  1. I don't have an external SD card in my GS3 yet. I copied the zip file onto the phone in the Download folder, but I don't see a way to get to it when I boot into the update mode screen.

Is an external SD card required to do it this way or can I place the zip file somewhere on the base filesystem and update from there?

  2. Right, many folks have seen this happen often in other markets too. Flips back and forth between the two.

Good to hear someone finally sees it here though. I stopped by two towers today where work was scheduled to start in September and still nothing. No new panels, no new equipment. The areas didn't look disturbed at all.

So, we're either behind schedule or the order of towers has changed around some. Bothers me we STILL weren't in Sprint's list of markets with active deployment.

  3. Glad to see that this was implemented today :)

Me too, think it's a good idea. But it was confusing for a minute or two when I kept hitting "Next Unread Topic" and getting things I knew I'd already seen. Thought I was going nuts. Just had to mark everything as read and now I'm back to normal.

  4. And HughesNet just launched their "Gen4" service with 20, 30 or 40GB for $50, $80 and $100 respectively. Of course, half of that data bucket is from 2AM - 8AM every day. They advertise download speeds up to 15Mbps and upload speeds up to 2Mbps.

That's about on par with Verizon's HomeFusion if you have Verizon LTE available in your area. That offers 30GB of data for $120/mo.

  5. The 12,000 site estimate isn't starting to look very optimistic to me. Production rates per market still have not climbed. There are just now a few more markets producing sites. I do think this month we will see a lot more markets with sites coming online. But, unless the production rate per market increases significantly also, they will not hit the 12,000 sites by December 31st.

    Robert

Makes me wonder if Sprint will decrease their projections for completed sites in their 3rd quarter earnings call or if they'll continue touting 12,000 by year end.

  6. Yeah, I suffered 2 years with that phone. Then someone bought it from me for $150... crazy.

Do the words "insufficient memory" throw you into a psychotic rage? My blood pressure went up 40 points just writing the words together. You must have the patience of a saint to still be using that phone.

I have about 7 app updates from the Play Store that I keep ignoring because I know it won't work. Fortunately I work from home most of the time so I don't have to use my phone THAT often.

Just waiting until I make a decision on what phone I want. Still leery of the Evo.

  7. ... The Moment was garbage, as was the HTC Hero. They were poorly implemented phones that were essentially the beta test for the OEMs on the Android OS.

NOW you tell me the Hero was crap. After I had to find out on my own.

I'm ready for an upgrade and really like the EVO LTE, but I'm still gunshy with all the connectivity problems.

  8. I've noted in the past few days that I've seen increase in speeds in the Raleigh area. I think it may be an upgraded backhaul occurring in the area. My questions are these...

If someone were to get say 5000kbps on a wimax phone that never experienced this speed before, can we conclude that an upgrade is infact occurring?

Can this result be a fluke?

Is the bandwidth directly tied together on wimax / 3g?

If a train leaves station A at 3:30am and Sprint is doing upgrades, what time will the train arrive in Raleigh?

Clearwire Wi-Max backhaul and Sprint 3G backhaul are completely separate. Data Speed upgrades are being done in the Raleigh area on existing Sprint sites now, even before NV work has completely ramped up. Those are shown at network.sprint.com but are only for Sprint sites.

I don't think it's been reported on here whether or not Clear is updating any backhaul or not. My guess would be more people switching to newer phones without Wi-Max and potentially less people using the Clear towers.

  9. Doesn't bother me one bit. No where in the article did he say that they will rise prices. Company's always have to consider raising prices when their in the financial state that Sprint is, just a part of any business. What was said in the article, however, is that they are NOT looking at raising prices for a good period of time. That should be satisfying for all of us.

I read this the same way. Nothing changing right now, but just like any business they will reevaluate the situation in the future. Obviously I hope they stay with unlimited data and I think they will for quite some time. However, they've already eliminated it on their broadband cards and wi-fi hotspots so it is not out of the question that it might happen on smartphone plans in the future.

For now, though, until the state of their network improves it's really their main selling point. Coverage is not as pervasive on a national level as Verizon or AT&T and we all know how bad they let their 3G network get.

  10. SERO plans get 15% off, while SOME corporate plans get 25%. So I don't think SERO is killing them.

My corporate plan gets 25% off, but only on the primary line. It used to be on all lines until a couple years ago and then it changed to just the first two lines on the family plan since they were grouped together at the same price. Then last year they split out the price of the primary line and second line of the family plan and stopped taking the 25% off the second line too. So, they've been raising my prices quite a bit already the last couple of years.

Although I still also get 25% on my broadband card since it's a separate line. And it's grandfathered with unlimited data which is one of many reasons I'll stick with Sprint.

  11. .....

    Version #2 (A1429 CDMA) is the Sprint + Verizon edition. 2100, 1800, Cellular, upper 700, PCS+G

This is the most interesting model of the three IMO. Despite SpectrumCo, there's no AWS here for Verizon. There is, however, support for a band that Verizon probably won't launch for several years: LTE in Cellular. I'm sure this was due to KDDI needing the band, but it's entertaining nonetheless. And of course Sprint's current LTE deployment is fully supported, though LTE in SMR or 2500 isn't.

    ...

Does this mean it might be possible, if you bought a Verizon or Sprint iPhone 5, to one day take it to the other carrier and have it activated? Not that I'd want to do that, or even that I'd want an iPhone 5. Just curious.

  12. I remember reading a while ago that Verizon's 700MHz LTE network is great because of building and distance penetration but Sprints LTE network would be just as good, if not better, because their 1900MHz LTE would be setup on a network which is closer together due to legacy towers and would create a larger coverage area (net). Is this true or will Sprint simply cheap out and only place LTE upgrades on towers which are "enough" to cover an area? Will Sprint be putting LTE upgrades on every current 3G tower?

Robert what do you think the coverage gaps will look like since you've been testing the network out recently? I also remember reading Sprint's LTE upgrades on current 3G towers would increase range by 20% (Or if you had 2 bars you would have 3 with the LTE network vision upgrade and so on). Right now my house sits within 5 or 6 Sprint towers but I get no more than 2 bars max (usually 1 and barely 1 aka -100+db) from any of them which usually leaves my phone switching towers looking for a signal and killing battery. I have an Airvana at home but it has tons of negatives and I would rather not use it and I figured when my area is finally upgraded according to Sprint I should have at least 3 bars from the closest tower? Any info you or anyone who has been using the new LTE network before or after knows would be appreciated.

Sprint is putting NV (upgraded 3G and LTE) on ALL current towers except for a handful as Robert's mentioned before. Not only that, but they will also be putting 800MHz voice and LTE on over 80% of their towers starting sometime after the Nextel IDEN shutdown is complete, starting middle of next year.

  13. ...

A decent rain in the south doesn't really kill my signals but it seems to make 3g just about unusable. Is it because of noise or just everyone checking the radar loop to see if it is raining at their house?

Sent from my C64 w/Epyx FastLoad cartridge

I've seen this as well with my broadband card. During moderate to heavy rain the 3G is pretty much operating at 1X speeds. I'll even see it drop to 1X at times during storms. Just have to kind of wait it out and then disconnect/reconnect to get back to 3G.

  14. So the other day I was going to a couple of websites and I went to ISN (Inside Sprint Now) but I remembered that Sprint had the site brought down. What happened? There really hasn't been any updates from ISN since the whole moving his stuff offshore or something?

    Just Curious :)

    -Luis

Also, hope everyone is having an amazing friday... I know I am (Someone brought cake into the office, that's probably why :D)

I remember seeing somewhere on these forums a link to documents showing that Sprint was asking the court to subpoena some websites to hand over the details of who the person was. Quick google search found this:

    http://techlaw.justia.com/2012/07/13/sprint-asks-court-to-subpoena-twitter-facebook-google-for-identity-of-self-proclaimed-company-mole/

My guess would be he's laying low trying not to be found out. Haven't seen any updates on the Twitter feed or anywhere else in a while, but it's been a couple weeks since I looked.

  15. so this morning I noticed a tower I drive by every day (CR54XC045)looked like it had some new equipment on it. I decided to stop by after work and get some pics. There were also some guys out there working on it, I didn't want to disturb them by asking any questions so I let them work in peace. The main thing that caught my eye was the cables that are hanging from the equipment down to the base of the tower. Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me on tower equipment can confirm that this is indeed sprint equipment.

According to the premier sponsor maps it's about time for that tower to get NV upgrades. I would suspect that's Sprint NV upgrades happening. If you upgrade to premier sponsorship you can see planned dates for each tower upgrade in all the markets.

  16. My previous phone sleeps with the fishes because of that. I bent down to pull up anchor and my Samsung did a swan dive. Good riddance as far as I'm concerned.

I did something similar with a cheapo pre-paid phone that my work got for me years ago before I had one of my own. Had it in my shirt pocket, went to the restroom at McD's, reached over to flush and it slipped out as I pushed the lever. Woosh, it was gone. It wasn't the size of an EVO LTE or an SII so it fit through the pipes. Thanks goodness, I certainly didn't want to retrieve it.

  17. Whatever that update did, I finally have LTE service in my house! It's nice to see that little 4G icon up there and not have it flash back to 3G after 10 seconds :D

That's good news. I'm overdue for an upgrade and like the EVO better than the S3 when I played with them both in the store a bit. But I was just too skeptical with all of the connection problems. If things are better with this new update I might think about it a little more seriously now.

Although I'm still thinking about possibly holding off to see if theres a phone early next year with 800 LTE.

  18. After viewing Sprint's updated map by address evidently the tower in my area hasn't been upgraded yet which is mind boggling considering the fact that I live in the prime area of Columbia MD across from the mall and outdoor concert venue & lakefront. But there is LTE coverage down the street in a rural area. Still makes no sense for my reception to be that poor in regards to getting 1x speeds.

Drove across Baltimore this past Sunday and no LTE. Was at Morgan State Univ. which the map shows that area is suppose to have LTE. not once did my phone pick up a LTE signal.

Sprint is jumping the gun. oh well smh

Did you cycle your EVO to CDMA-only and then back? Or to airplane mode and back?

There are known connectivity issues with the EVO LTE that have been discussed in these forums ad nauseum and on the wall. There was an OTA for the EVO today which is supposed to resolve these issues.

  19. Ive updated my PRL a zillion times. Im dropping almost all of my calls. I dropped 8 out of 9 yesterday and it doesnt matter where I go, the results are the same. I work all over the Triangle.. doesnt matter if Im in Chapel Hill, Durham, ITB or OTB in Raleigh.. calls drop EVERYWHERE.

I haven't seen those issues at all. Maybe something wrong with your phone? Take it to a Sprint store and have them check it out.
