  1. Is it an international version nexus? I thought the nexus had a few variants based on location?

Nope, there is only one version of the hardware that works for all locations.

EDIT: Oops there are two versions, but they had the same software.

  2. Had a customer come in today with the rattling issue on his nexus so I shook mine and it does the same thing. Has anyone experienced this at all? I know it's common enough that people have obviously noticed but is it every nexus out there? Or just a select few?

It is the buttons. The first batch of nexus 5's had this issue.

  3. So, why exactly is the N5 still blocked from Bands 26/41 on Sprint? What would be the reasons to wait on the software update?

We have to wait for Google to do the update because Google has control over updates.

  4. For the users that are using dash clock and its extensions does this widget and add one cause any significant battery drain?

Dash clock doesn't really impact battery life a huge amount. I use it on my lockscreen and homescreen and it is never a top user in battery stats.

Hi, I've read back quite a few pages and have some questions that I'm sure have been answered a dozen times in the 195 pages. Would you recommend the N5? What's the real deal with the SIM card? What programing changes need be done, I've read somewhere it is best to hard reset or something initially? Thanks and any other info ya think would be helpful would also be appreciated!!

I would highly recommend the Nexus 5 for a few reasons. 1. Stock android. 2. Updates straight from Google. 3. Great all around performer 4. Simple sleek design.

The SIM card is used for LTE connectivity. LTE is considered a GSM technology, hence the need for the SIM.

I'm not sure about your last question. You can just use it straight out of the box. No need to make any changes except to customize.

  5. So I picked up a nexus 5 today at a corporate sprint store. So far I'm really liking it. Is there anything I need to do or are the network settings automatically brought to the phone? This is the first android phone I've purchased so I'll be having to navigate through the changes from iphone to android.

You don't need to do anything to the network settings. Just make sure to detach your phone number from iMessage so that you don't have issues with SMS.

  6. So how do you guys like Nexus 5? Right now i have the s4 i like it but Samsung with there updates and bloatware are getting old. In thinking about the nexus 6 that supposedly comes out late fall.

I would get the Nexus 5. It's a solid phone. Great screen, the radio is insane, and it's quick.

  7. So, are ehrpd handoffs working just as well on these new triband phones as they were with SVLTE phones? I just wondered this as my phone went from LTE->ehrpd->LTE while streaming music, and I didn't have to suffer any buffering.

There are times when it will seamlessly transition from LTE to eHRPD to LTE while streaming Spotify without a hiccup. There are other times where data will drop like a rock and only an airplane toggle will bring it back. It may be a tower thing or it may be a cell fart, not sure.

I generally do not see smooth hand offs from LTE to EVDO. Almost always of experience a data lull of at least several seconds, enough to interrupt any streaming service. However EVDO back to LTE is almost always seamless. Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
I usually have a smooth handoff from LTE to eHRDP and vice-versus. Occasionally data will just drop out and require an airplane mode toggle. Also sometimes I will be in an LTE area and the phone will be stuck on eHRDP and only toggling airplane mode will get it on LTE.Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
  8. My G2 has had the same behavior, too. It will randomly not connect to any data network despite knowing that it is available. Airplane mode doesn't always fix it and I have to restart the phone. I think it is some sort of oddity with the CSFB either with the phone or the network that hasn't gotten all the way sorted out.

My Nexus 5 is exhibiting the same behavior. Hopefully they get this sorted out soon.

  9. That one has not been 4G accepted. The closest one that is 4G accepted is just north of the Splash Pad, one in Shiloh and a few in Fairview. Sprints network maps show expected coverage at 100% 4G accepted. Right now Missouri Market is just shy of 60% 4G Complete. St. Clair County istelf is just shy of 80% 4G Complete. We have no notification of either of the other towers in O'fallon itself being worked on at this point. If you want, you can go to the site and take pictures of the equipment on the racks and at the base and we can tell you if it is the Sprint Network Vision equipment.

Awesome thanks for the info. I'll probably go check out the site once I'm back in town after the holidays.

  10. I posted about some LTE troubles in the eCSFB thread, but I'm going to give some more details. I am located in O'Fallon IL, where we are supposed to have LTE coverage as of this month. Some spots of the city have coverage, but the tower down the road from me doesn't seem to be broadcasting LTE. The tower in question is near the intersection of Seven Hills Road and East State St.

  11. You are right, that tower down the road from you might not be completely finished.. in fact that's probably why you're not connecting to LTE. ;)

If you do go check out the tower, the equipment may already be installed but is waiting on backhaul or something else. Site upgrades require a lot of different things to happen. The shiniest new cabinets are not much good if there isn't any fiber hooked up to them, or if the equipment hasn't passed the necessary testing and inspections. There are dozens of sites near me that have all of the new equipment in place, but are not broadcasting LTE yet -- my guess (and that's all it is, a guess) is that the backhaul is not in place.

An incomplete NV site and the CSFB issue are two totally different things. If you're not having problems connecting to other LTE sites nearby, it's a reasonable indicator that it's not an issue in your area.

By the way, welcome to S4GRU! You seem interested in this stuff, so poke around and read up on all of the great information that has already been posted. There are some very informative articles on "The Wall".

Thanks for the info and welcome! I've already been poking around the site and have found a lot of helpful/interesting info.

  12. Connecting to eHRPD does not have any correlation to the status of LTE at a site; many areas were seeing eHRPD long before LTE arrived. The CSFB issue is separate, eHRPD has nothing to do with it. The Sprint coverage maps are significantly optimistic and inaccurate.

Unless you know you have connected to this specific site with other (non-triband) Sprint LTE devices, it's hard for you to know for sure if CSFB is causing a problem or not.

    -Mike

eHRDP should indicate that the upgrades are either in process or completed though since eHRDP uses the LTE network as a backend. I get LTE at other places in O'Fallon so that lead me to my conclusion that it is the one tower down the road from me that isn't completely finished.
