  1. Woohoo! I'm a lucky winner! I get to go a week+ without a phone! http://www.androidauthority.com/nexus-5x-android-7-nougat-bootloop-issue-717698/

Anybody know how to navigate the pathetic Nexus hardware support system? Is a phone call during business hours (when I'm totally unavailable for the next three days) the only option? This is throwing a massive molten wrench into my week.

Go direct to LG. They're doing RMAs for this issue.

  2. I know of at least 1 engineering market gearing up for immediate AWS-3 rollout.

It's an antenna swap, along with a radio swap.

The nice part is that this antenna and radio swap is pretty much happening at the same time, thanks to L700 rollout.

    Soon...

I know markets are getting new equipment for B66, namely new Ericsson AIR units. I think marketing may be jumping the gun with saying the spectrum is "on air" which is why it's intentionally vague. There's no way to fact check them because there are no handsets out in the wild that support B66.
  3. Being unlocked, is there still the ability to add sprint zone and use WiFi calling? - thinking about getting one for mi madre.

I'm also pumped for that set of 3 WiFi disks...lots of dead spots in my new house.

According to Guenther, Sprint is working on making Sprint Zone available on the Play Store

  4. I don't know (regarding bootloader), neither device is being marketed for development.

I hope they continue with the nexus style unlockable bootloader, but I'm not going to assume that it will be.

If they have a 'nexus' tablet in the pipeline, they may relegate 'development' openness to that device.

Unlocked versions from Google will more than likely have unlockable bootloaders. Only the Verizon sold ones will have locked bootloaders.

There are no more Nexus devices planned

    https://twitter.com/googlenexus/status/783374887050240000

Even if they make it unlockable, secure boot has made using alternate Android installs too much of a pain for me to bother with anymore.

I waited for several price drops before I bought my Nexus 5X.

Secure Boot (actually called Verified Boot) is only a problem when the bootloader is locked. Unlocked devices just show a warning message on startup.

  5. Black 32 on the way. It's pretty much everything I've been asking for from Google for some time. The fact that we knew every spec from leaks made the announcement slightly less exciting, but still exactly what I wanted.

The only fun things we didn't know in advance:

    - There is an RGB notification light.

    - A ton of wires and accessories (OTG dongle?) come in the box.

    - Free Daydream (maybe can sell for like $50 and recoup some of the price...).

    - The supposed extent of the improvements to the camera.

What's in the box is on the product page

  6. Sprint won't hit 1Gbps with on a device with the x16 and their current setup. They would be lucky to max out in perfect conditions at 600 Mbps.

(Current Max 2x2) 85Mbps x (Max increase due to QAM 64 to 256 if you are pushing it) ~1.4 x (going from 2 streams to 10 streams on the x16) 5 = ~600Mbps

They may change the timing and put out a press release about their "Top Speeds".

I don't see 4x4 UE as such a big deal if the network is already 4x2. It will not change the capacity of the site in question and therefor won't increase capacity to hard hit areas. In case anyone is interested the snapdragon 820 is limited to 6 spatial streams. Meaning 4x4 + 2x2 CA or 2x2 + 2x2 + 2x2 CA. It won't be 4x4 and full 3CA 20 Mhz at the same time.

Higher order MIMO does bring performance improvement because it improves race to idle, which means that resource blocks are more quickly freed for other devices to use.

  7. Seems they have been having the last laugh for a while now. Sprint was talking the 4x4 Or 8x8 MIMO 256 QAM in 2014 at the Chicago demonstration.

    http://www.lightreading.com/mobile/4g-lte/sprint-promises-180mbit-s-peaks-in-2015/d/d-id/709518

I asked here if this was possible and I was told no. So Now Tmobile is launching 4x4 MIMO and it seems to be a reality.

Whoever told you it wasn't possible was misinformed.

  8. This is great to see. Should really help them out in some of their congested markets like Chicago. So the S7, S7 Edge, and I assume Note 7 will go from 150 to 400 Mbps on 20x20 band 4 LTE. It's also nice to see that all their LTE cell sites will support 256 QAM by end of October.

It'll bring more benefit once the majority of devices can utilize it. The S7 and S7 edge probably don't make up the majority on the network, so initial benefits will be limited.

  9. Sprint seems to claim that it does. From the end user's perspective doesn't it? If network management is working properly isn't there circumstances where the increase cell edge performance would allow my phone to stay on b41 during a data session that I wouldn't in the absences of CA. Isn't that effectively "increased coverage"? Or am I might be misunderstanding things.

The cell range is mostly limited by the uplink power of the phone. Once uplink fails, the phone cannot stay on B41 anymore. CA can't improve on this aspect since at this point it's downlink only, so there isn't a change in coverage from a sq. miles perspective.

  10.

Just did a network search on the T-Mobile version looks like it has Sprint LTE bands on it.

That's expected. There's only one hardware variant of the Note 7 in the US.

  11. Uhh...how does this affect LA/OC county again? The article seems to relate along the IBEZ area which is around the san diego and southeast part of SB county.

Oops didn't see OP's location and assumed IBEZ. You're correct this doesn't impact LA.

I think earliest I've heard for SBC rebranding completion is mid 2017. Don't quote me on that.

  12. Sprint went from number one to third in Las Vegas

    http://www.rootmetrics.com/en-US/rootscore/map/metro/las-vegas-nv/2016/2H

The second half reports are popping up now, even though they will not release the first half 2016 until August 27th.

That's what happens when you spend very little in network capex for a whole quarter. What's interesting is that they tied with T-Mobile in all categories and Verizon/AT&T fought over 1st and 2nd.
