  1. my observation on n25 in central iowa is that it seems to be more dominate on sprint conversion sites. according to my logs i've connected to it on legacy t-mobile sites but when i'm out and about and observing my phone i only see it stay connected for any length of time when on sprint converted sites. thinking the logs are from it being handed off and then dropped. not sure why that is and if its something thats unique to this area. seems like there is still a mess in the background from having a t-mobile network, iwireless network, and now sprint network all in the same area.

  2. I sent a couple of reports last night and wanted to follow up with an observation. i had 2 times last night where i was stationary for a significant amount of time and once i started moving the location never updated. So i'm wondering if thats what causes it to get stuck, is when the location doesn't change because you aren't moving and then doesn't re-engage once movement starts again? In my example last night i left my house to take my daughter to gymnastics and ~10 minutes into the drive the location was still stuck from before i left my house. so i exited SCP and relaunched it and the location started updating. then got to gymnastics where i was stationary waiting for about an hour and when we left there the location didn't update at all and was stuck from where i was stationary there.

That's interesting, I would expect more frequent updates then. I did see your reports and saw the delayed updates. Delayed updates are likely separate from this bug where it gets completely stuck, but I will keep this in mind too.

The location API takes the two relevant settings under preferences (preferred accuracy and update timing) and is supposed to do the rest on its own. I have the least-likely-to-be-killed-off methods in place, but I'm wondering if the OS is getting too aggressive in conserving power anyway.

i just double checked and those settings are set to balanced for accuracy and 1000 for timing, just as a FYI

Was your device moving a significant distance (driving, walking, etc) or were you mostly stationary or indoors? Android automatically does not send location updates if built-in sensors detect that the device hasn't really moved.

i was driving with an average speed of about 40 mph during the entire trip. my phone was in a phone holder attached to the windshield and was on with signal check up the entire time. round trip i probably drove about 3 or 4 miles.

  5. just sent you some diagnostics reports myself, around 10:13 to 10:21 CST. it wasn't fully "stuck" but it was taking a long time to update. last night i was out and was watching it update and it seemed to be updating around every 5 seconds to upwards of 20 to 30 seconds. but today when i sent the diagnostics reports it was not updating for 2 to 3 minutes or more. so i'm not sure why it updated more frequently last night but didn't today, hopefully you see something in the reports :)

    Excellent, thank you very much!

Anyone else have any feedback, especially related to the location issue -- either positive or negative?

i haven't been anywhere since the update 😕 but next time i'm out and about i plan on watching it to see how it performs! should be at least by this weekend :)

I've noticed something similar in some of my web data uploads - all of the sites I hit on a drive will only have my home location. Hopefully this diagnostic helps to identify the problem!

glad you guys posted this, i was noticing the same thing but haven't had a chance to really look into it yet :)

The shorter antenna is B/N41, so that's a good upgrade. Not sure what the other antenna is. Doesn't look like their standard B/N71 +B2/12/66 antenna. May just be B2/66 (or 12). Not entirely sure. Are there more than two antennas per sector?

that looks like the one they've been putting up around here that does B2/B66. its on all towers they upgrade that don't get 71 antennas added and on some of the "older" upgrades they did with 71 they put this antenna up as well.

  9. mine worked! here are the steps i did

    • opened app and waited 5 seconds - no update prompt
    • exited the app and reopened it
    • immediately got an update notification
    • tapped update
    • waited about 30 seconds
    • prompt came up at the bottom of the screen saying an update was ready to be installed
    • tapped install
    • the app closed and an install screen came up
    • once the install was done the app reopened
    • presented with the new release notes
    • profit ;)

The new diagnostic report is the same as yesterday, just says "null" -- very odd. I don't see how targeting Android 10 would cause that, as it's working fine on other older devices. Many apps have been targeting it for 2 years, I literally waited until the last moment to make the move. We will keep chatting over email and get it figured out.

Saw your report this morning, thanks! It's working for others, but you oddly have that "no connection" block above the 5G info that is a red flag.. is that always there? If you toggle airplane mode does it go away. Please try saving a note again and sending a report right after, I want to compare the info.

that was it! no that block above is not always there. generally just see it when switching off of wifi. i got connected back to 5G SA and that block was gone and tried it again and it worked to save a note. I sent a new diagnostics report after saving a note, thanks!

  11. my only observation so far on the new beta is i still seem to have times where its showing some form of CA combination but i'm connected to a tower that only has 1 band so wouldn't be possible from to have CA from it. i've been driving when it happens so not able to send a diagnostics report, but i'll get one to you as soon as i can.

one question though, when connected to 5G NSA, are you able to tell what band of 5G NSA the device is connected to? i haven't noticed it yet on the new beta but on the old version sometimes it would show 5G-NSA and sometimes it would show 5G-NSA 600. i wasn't sure if that was bad/stale data or if you could tell what band it was getting 5G from in NSA mode.

On my T-Mobile S20+ SCP doesn't indicate the PLMN is different. It still shows 310120 with no **. I can't post a screenshot until I get home later tonight since tapatalk is down, but I've got shots of split screen with SCP showing 310-120 and the service mode screen showing 312-250. I haven’t pulled my log yet but if these are being logged as 312-250 that'll be great for tracking.

On another note, the provider color bar has been extremely helpful on this trip to see at a glace which network I'm on.

i see this on my OP8 as well. i can select the 312-250 PLMN from the network operators screen and it says "registered" but when looking at signal check it just shows "sprint 310-120". so i have no idea if i'm actually connected to 312-250 or if it somehow punted me off to the normal PLMN. because of that i've been unable to identify these "keep" sites.

  13. has anyone had recent tower upgrades in their area where they installed the b/n41 panels but did NOT install the b/n71 panels?

They are in my area doing upgrades right now and they have been putting both b/n41 as well as b/n71 up on the tower with each upgrade. However I've found 2 towers now where crews have been there and are gone now where they only put up the b/n41 panel and not the b/n71 panel. trying to guess the reasons they would do that?

Wonder if it's only for NR, because I don't have any more info than I did before.

it is, from what i've gathered with the way NSA 5G works you won't get any of the 5G cell info, other than signal strength, in that mode. you only get that with SA 5G

  15. mike - i sent you a diagnostic report from my oneplus 8. its showing i'm connected to 5G SA but not really showing any info. Its a step up from my McLaren 5G phone, that one hasn't gotten a SA update yet but would never show anything when connected to NSA 5G :)

Not sure if you've had a chance to look much at the info you can get from oneplus phones, hopefully we aren't just stuck with no info from them :(
