  1. Apple now is selling the Sprint Variant of the iPhone 6/6+ unlocked at the Apple Store.  Their disclaimer states it will work with Sprint.

The unlocked iPhone includes all the features of iPhone but without a wireless contract commitment or a carrier installment plan. You can activate and use the unlocked iPhone on the supported wireless network of your choice, such as AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, or Sprint in the United States.

If you don’t want a multiyear service contract, or if you prefer to use a local carrier when traveling abroad, the unlocked iPhone is the best choice. If you choose T-Mobile, your iPhone comes with a T-Mobile SIM card already installed. You will need to contact T-Mobile or visit an Apple Retail Store to activate your iPhone.

Otherwise, the unlocked iPhone does not come with a nano-SIM card for iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 5s, or iPhone 5c so you’ll need to get one from any supported carrier worldwide. To start using your iPhone, simply insert the SIM card into the slot and turn on iPhone by pressing and holding the On/Off button for a few seconds. Then follow the onscreen instructions to set up your iPhone.

Purchasing an unlocked iPhone means you will not qualify for the lower iPhone price associated with a contract or a carrier installment plan. The unlocked iPhone 6 model is A1586. The unlocked iPhone 6 Plus model is A1524. The T-Mobile iPhone 6 model is A1549. The T-Mobile iPhone 6 Plus model is A1522. For details on LTE network support, please see www.apple.com/iphone/LTE.

To help decide whether the unlocked option is right for you, compare wireless service plans. Or call our iPhone Specialists at 1-800-MY-APPLE.

Looks to me Sprint is out of excuses regarding unlocking the iPhone.  You would be a fool at this point if you pay full price for a sprint locked iPhone 6.

  3. Yeah sprintcare on twitter replied pretty quick to the corp discount, and was big no. So framily plan I stay.. For unlimited data / annual upgrade it still cost me 45 a month.. so either way I suppose its still 5$ cheaper..

Edit: Actually.. I get a discount on my data charges per line with my discount. so I pay 41$ a line for unlimited. So only way they could match me on this would be to discount the unlimited family to 80.00. So i'll pass.

Same here. As long as I can continue to maintain the Framily, I am sticking with that. Still the best deal with employer discount on the data. I have had to replace two members that have left this month and have had no issues finding people to join on reddit.

  4. Only current generation models, if I remember rightly...

Correct for now. Big issue will be vzw and att devices will not have band 41. So people doing BYOD to Sprint will not be getting the best experience. And Sprint iPhones are still locked to Sprint.

  5. At the end of the day, no network will get those optimal speeds everywhere, and that's the message that we really need to be sharing to everyone.

Let's focus on consistent speeds, not maximum peak in some areas under the tower with the sun out.

Yup. For most of the things folks do on a mobile phone, a consistent 5mb or so with low ping will be just fine.  Sprint provides this level of service all over town here now and I rarely have issues anymore streaming radio, loading web pages, ect.

  6. Great conversation, that's what this site is all about.

That is 100% correct.  This is the only wireless industry related site I know of that I can come to and have constructive discussions about Sprint without all of the mindless bashing that goes on just about everyplace else.

Is Sprint perfect?  Not close and I don't think anybody here thinks that.  But it is nice to have for the most part good discussion without all the noise that serves no constructive purpose.

I think the biggest frustration many of us have right now regarding T-Mobile is the the do no wrong image the tech press is giving them right now while still cutting down Sprint every chance they get.  The smart thing T-Mobile has done is build up several major markets like NYC and SF where many of the tech writers are based to get them on board.  I think that is why you are seeing the deployment strategy shift at Sprint, they know they have to get these big markets up and running right to get get some good word of mouth going.

Also remember that many of us are based in the middle of the country where T-Mobile is just about worthless.  I live in a metro of over 800,000 and besides some protection sites on the interstate there is ZERO T-Mobile presence here while Sprint has had dramatic improvement the past 12 months.  So forgive me when I don't think much of T-Mobile, they pretty much ignore my market. (And I am sure many feel that way about Sprint for the same reason.)

  7. So I am getting frustrated about something.  In the past couple of weeks I have lost a couple of framily members, only to quickly find a new one to replace them on reddit.  I assume some of this recent turnover is due to the holidays and people buying new phones, making changes, ect.  And that is fine as long as I can keep adding new members.  My frustration is the text alerts I receive from Sprint regarding my Framily status.  When I lose a member I get a text right away letting me know that somebody has dropped.  But the last two times now when I add a member I don't get a text that somebody joined.  I know back in June when I started this I did get those texts.  My concern is that one of my framily members is also getting texts of people dropping and none with people adding and gets cold feet and becomes more inclined to leave themselves.  Maybe this is by design?  Since my framily outside of my two lines is all reddit built, hopefully those users are savvy enough to check their account before making a change and see anybody leaving is being replaced quickly.

  8. I guess they finally did the math, and someone came to the realization it was too cheap? It's too bad, it was a compelling offer.

They are already offering unlimited for $50 with the iPhone, so it's no cheaper then a plan they already have out there.  Maybe they thought it would hurt the family share packs too much since that is where most of there recent marketing has been?

  9. Thank you. I forgot to say thank you as this is good to keep in mind.

I do wanna leave a spot or two open for now as I just might port my and my MIL's line in from VZW someday...

No worries. There just seems to be confusion over this topic and I wanted to share my experience that at this time it appears to still be possible to add new members. Obviously that could change at any time.

  10. So then why did they give my two friends such a hard time????? One is joining ANOTHER friends ATT family plan and the other ran back to T-Mobile.... Meanwhile I have 8 people on my framily... Great, for now... if it drops any lower I will start to be concerned..

My guess is it is just depends on the rep.  I can only tell you my personal experience and my only involvement was posting my ID on reddit and waiting.

With 8 already in your group you could post on there and have 10 pretty quick, if you are concerned about it.  It's really no big deal and you don't have to give any personal info.

  11. I'm kind of bummed, I tried reddit a couple times already and haven't got any response from it. Granted I only have 2 lines (Possibly 3 by Christmas) but still... I REALLY want to get my bill down.

Yeah, with Framily being a plan that is not actively pushed by Sprint anymore it is hard to get a Framily built up starting with only a couple of members.  Most of the ID's on reddit having success now are folks who already had a full framily and lost a member or two and are able to offer the max discount straight away.  I had 10, dropped to 9, put it on there and was back to 10 within 24 hrs.

  12. Add Jacksonville to that list as well. Sprint is really really good here and easily one of Sprint's best showings, as is most of Florida now.

My Verizon service is only better in coverage in a few spots, but my Sprint service is usually faster and more reliable.

Omaha is also light years better then what it was last year at this time. There are still a couple spots around town where I may drop to 3G, but mostly service is usable and reliable now. [emoji106]

  13. Correct, my question was in regards to Framily. He stated he was on the Framily plan.

iPhone for Life is just the lease.  No different then using EasyPay.  Since I was already on Framily they let me keep my plan. Since I am in a 10 member group it made more sense then doing the $50 unlimited plans.

I thought about just moving to the $50 plan due to the risk of losing members but from my research online it appears people are still having success finding people to add if you lose a member or two, so I am going to stick with it for now since employer discount can be used for data on Framily.  My unlimited plan comes to $41.40 a line with discount.

  14. Customer Service remains Sprint's biggest issue.

I wanted to add an International Calling feature (unlimited international $15) to my account. Called and was told, Sorry your plan does not qualify for this feature. So I was placed on the $50 iPhone6 plan (plus the feature). Nice, I thought okay if that works fine with me on an Android phone. Next day I get a message, that my plan was updated. Not that I was placed on the correct $60 plan, no I was charged $35 because I am on contract (actually I am not my I bought my phone a long time ago - 30 months). So I called to complain and a Supervisor changed the plan to the $60 Simply Unlimited. So today I get a text message telling me my plan was updated yet again, this time the device charge was $25. Funny, because again I bought the phone and I am no longer on contract.

Now I was switched to a Framily plan until I am able to show that my phone (Evo 4GLTE) is out of contract??! Seriously, all I wanted is just another feature added to my account.

I am not sure but it takes one call to Verizon to fix an issue and not three times. If Sprint wants to safe money, close the foreign call centers, move jobs into the U.S. and invest some money in better training. This would get the customers happy and cut down on CSR costs!

I had similar issues recently with my plan.  My wife and I are on Framily and both upgraded to iPhone 6's using the iPhone for life lease.  I felt it worked for us since we upgrade every two years anyway.  We kept our Framily plan since we are in a 10 member group.  A few days after I placed our iPhone orders I noticed online that the $15 framily fee was added to each of our lines.  I did an online chat and they confirmed that we should not be paying that fee we did not have any discounted phones.  A couple of hours after the chat the fee was gone.  48 hrs later I log into my acct and the fee is back again.  Another chat and the fee is removed again.  This time I make sure I have my acct noted regarding the issue.  Fee has not been back since.  It was just frustrating.

I have found that I generally seem to get better results through chat reps vs phone reps.  Just seems like the chat reps are empowered to take care of more issues quickly.  Just my experience.

  15. Yes

    Rocket,

I know there is an October expiration date on the $50 iPhone plan.  Any indication that this is going to be extended?

Also, as I said in a previous post, I am currently in a 10 member Framily.  My wife and I both upgraded to iPhone 6's so we can go to the new iPhone plans if we want.  If we were both doing unlimited I would jump now, but she is on 1GB and never goes over, and I am on unlimited.  I do have a 18% corp discount that we can use on framily but not on the new plans from what I understand.  8 of our framily members were added by just posting our ID on reddit, so I do not know them.  As you know, the risk with framily is you could lose members at any time, and with framily now being buried, my fear is that trying to add members back would be a PITA.  But moving both of my lines to the $50 plans would be a decent price jump compared to what I am paying right now.  As somebody who deals with this daily, what would you suggest?  Here is what I am thinking.

    1.  Stay as is and take the risk that my framily will stick around and if anybody does leave I will be able to add new members or just wait until the cost of framily is more then the new plans and switch at that time.

    2.  Take the sure thing and move to the $50 iPhone plans while that window is open.

    3.  Move just my line to the $50 plan and leave my wife in the framily with 9 remaining members.

Being at 10 we would have to lose 4 before the price starts going up, and I have been at 10 since July with no issues, so I am not too worried about losing anybody.  I think it is just the idea that if you lose people you could face a price hike at anytime and if I can't get the $50 unlimited when that happens I will be kicking myself.  But I am saving a lot now.

This is why frequent rate plan changes is frustrating for customers.

  16. If I was with another provider right now, after experiencing what I have with my iPhone 6, I would head straight to sprint and recommend it to anyone in this city. It's amazing the difference. I have service everywhere I go, except the damn target and my apartment...

And by experiencing I mean the 14 day test trial money back guarantee period. Sprint needs to work out an easier way to try out Triband service. I know a lot of people would jump on it

Once iPhone supplies catch up to demand they should roll out a test drive program similar to T-Mobile. A lot of people still skeptical of sprint but may try out on a test drive.

  17. Thanks. I know their policy. Just wanted someone to confirm by trying. So is it safe to assume that a sprint sim won't work in another carriers model?

I don't think the Verizon/Att versions have the correct LTE bands for sprint.
