  1. What is Sprint supposed to do?  I don't know, but if releasing a device that doesn't work properly on their network was the best option, then....wow.

I understand its complicated, but that's what they're supposed to be experts at and that's why we pay them a good amount of money every month.

What would you do?  All indications are they are working as fast as they can to get the network up to date.  Would you have just said pass to two flagship devices and catch the heat for that also.  Like I said no-win.

I will agree though, there should have been a public disclosure.  The mistake was hiding the issue, not releasing the phones.  Trying to hide the issue makes it worse.

  2. No, eCSFB is a network issue, not a device issue.  Network Vision is simply not as far along in some markets as Sprint would like.  But what is Sprint to do?  Not release the LG G2 and Nexus 5 until next spring or even skip them altogether?  People would then complain that Sprint does not have the latest and greatest handsets.  Heck, some members here whined when the G2 was not released for a month after it appeared on other providers.

Sometimes, you have to do the best that you can in a flawed situation.  That is what Sprint is trying to do.

Sprint was in a no-win situation.  Either release the phones and catch flack for the current network limitation, or delay or pass altogether on these phones and catch flack for not carrying two flagship devices.  I think the decision they made was the right one because it then puts the choice in the consumer's hands.

The only thing they should have done different is be upfront about the issue if they indeed knew about it.  That way the customer could make an informed purchase and not feel ripped off after the fact.  At least this was figured out early enough returns could be made if desired.

  3. Got my Nexus tonight from Sprint.  Really like the phone so far overall.  Had no issues activating it.  It came with the SIM pre-installed.  Just had to call an automated number to finish the port from Verizon, and in a couple of minutes it was done.  I don't live in a part of town that has LTE yet, so have not been able to test the LTE reception yet.  I should get to try that tomorrow.

There is one area of concern that I was wondering if somebody could help with.  The Sprint Nexus 5 is totally unbranded, has no carrier apps, and appears to be the exact same as the play store model.  The only difference is that it came SIM pre-installed with no SIM removal tool and had sprint branded manuals.  Also on the blue sleeve on the outside of the box was the normal Sprint disclosures that basically says the device is locked to Sprint.  I don't have an active SIM for another carrier to test so hopefully somebody else could check this out.  It would be dissapointing if this was the case.

  4. Somebody on another forum got his and reported that it comes with the SIM pre-installed and no SIM removal tool.  Otherwise exact same as the phones sold from the Play store.

Mine should be here anytime now.  I will let you know if I find anything different.

  5. I just got off chat with Sprint about not connecting to LTE. Looks like it is a known issue with Google Play bought devices

I will keep you guys updated.

I guess I don't understand why it makes a difference where the phones are bought from.  As far as I know they are the exact same device and software as the one Sprint is selling.  It will be interesting to see some Sprint sold devices get activated so we can see if they have any issues.

  6. Is there a concensus yet on whether it's best to set the mobile settings to Global or LTE as the preferred network choice? On global will Sprint roam to GSM carriers?

I don't think Sprint is going to roam on any carriers that they don't have roaming agreements with.

  7. omfgggggg

Right after I posted that comment ^^^^^

my Razr vibrated, 2 emails from Sprint

One was a welcome one with my new phone number

    and....the.........other.............was..........................SHIPPED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    *sorry VERY excited

(I may have dribbled just a bit)

Nice to see they are handling the fulfillment aspect so well

Great!  Glad to see things are moving.  Nothing yet on my order.  Placed mine early on Nov 2nd.  Hope it goes out today overnight.

  8. I encountered a weird bug last night where all sound and microphones seemed to stop working.  I was just testing things out and had my wife call me and the phone didn't ring, though the screen came on.  I answered the call, and she could not hear me and I could not hear her.

I played a youtube video and still no sound.  Touch tones on the dialer were silent as well.  Checked volume settings and everything appeared normal.   Rebooted and the sound came back.

Could be a bad app.  Remember this is a brand new version of Android and not all apps are updated yet so bad apps can cause some of these wierd issues until they are updated.  If it happens again you might want to look at the apps you have running and may have used before the issue started to troubleshoot.

  9. Was checking the status of my pre-order with Sprint this morning and a chat box popped up.  This is the info the rep gave me, take it for what it is worth.  Made it sound like phones won't even start shipping until the 8th.

Mike: Currently, your order information is processing normally and awaiting fulfillment at our warehouse until its release date 11/8/2013. At the moment, there is no tracking information or delivery date available but once the phone has been shipped, you will receive an email with your tracking number. Mike: It will usually take up to 2-5 business days for you to receive your order from the date it is released. I would recommend checking back on the 8th to see if a tracking number is available.

Grrr.  I would like to know what day they are coming so I can work from home that day.  I don't want it showing up on Friday and me not being there.  Who does Sprint use to ship?  UPS or FedEx?

  10.

Thought about this but if you do leave don't you have to pony up the difference of the over all cost 449.00 which is the same cost of a 32g N5 delivered from the play store. I think it to better off to just order from the Play store.

How do you figure?  The way I understand it the ETF is $350 and after 6 months it starts going down and by 9 months it is under $300.  By that point $50 + $290 (the nine month ETF) is less then $350 price of the 16GB phone in Google Play.  So really it is not that much of a risk in my opinion.  And I don't see Sprint being that bad here for me to have to get out before then as I know enough people here that use them and it works for them.

  11. I have been part of a few pre-orders at Sprint and everytime they shipped them overnight the day before.  So my money is on them shipping out on Thursday overnight with a Friday delivery.

I would always check the order status on my account (My Account > Pay my bill > View my orders (right side))

    and also this page:

    http://www.sprint.com/personal/wireless/order_status.html

One of them updated quicker than the other with tracking info.

    Thanks for the info.

I debated between doing the sprint preorder or Google Play but as a new line I was able to order the phone for $49.99.  So even if after a few months I can't stand sprint anymore,  I can take my phone somplace else and even with the ETF I am not paying more money then I would have been if I had bought at Google Play.  That is the beauty of cheap unlocked phones.  So I figured pay less not and take the chance on Sprint.  Got the $70 Everything Plus plan so it is much cheeper then what I am paying Verizon right now.

  12. yeah I don't think the Sprint devices are going to deliver by Friday, just my feeling at this point. There still is no update from Sprint on the preorders and customer service reps just repeat the same thing about them, "that they will do their best to deliver by Friday, Nov 8". I tried asking if they have at least recieved them in the warehouse, and am getting nowhere.

Yeah, I am starting to get that feeling also, but I really won't give up hope for a Friday delivery until Thursday.  Even if they don't get them until tomorrow they could get them out pretty fast and send them out overnight.  Don't know if that is how they operate but it is possible.  What has me more skeptical is that on the Sprint website if you go to order one they are still quoting the Nov 8 delivery date.  Now I know the vast majority of people are buying through Google Play, but when you consider how fast they sold out, I find it hard to beleive that Sprint has not sold through their pre-order quantity yet.

This is my first pre-order with sprint, what is their track record on Pre-orders?  I have done several with VZW and always got my device on or before the date promised.

  13. Highly disappointed that I don't have any shipping information or update from Sprint yet for mine.

Anyone have an update on a Sprint order yet?

Sent from my EVO using Tapatalk 2

Just the email that stated my order is pending and that they were doing their best to get the device delivered "around Nov 8".  Hopefully will start seeing something happen tomorrow or Wed.

The processing of your recent Sprint order is pending for one of two reasons:

    • All or a portion of your ordered items are on backorder. • The items you pre-ordered have not arrived in our warehouse.

    Please note - pre-

    order news:

    • LG G2 is expected to deliver around November 8. • Google Nexus 5 is expected to deliver around November 8.
  14. First of all welcome. Secondly sorry for the slow response. I saw this yesterday, but was in Lincoln at the game and spent the rest of the evening "recovering." I think the other guys gave you pretty solid advice. If voice is the primary concern, Sprint already has a pretty good voice network in Omaha. I honestly can't remember the last time I had a dropped call. I'll only roam on voice deep inside certain buildings and have always found I typically will have a good enough signal in those instances as well. This will be helped by 1X800 which Dkoellerwx alludes to, which will give Sprint a tremendous voice network. Verizon still has Sprint firmly beat in Omaha for data services, but we'll see how that changes over the coming months/years.

If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask. I saw you lurking on the sponsor map thread last night and obviously that is an awsome resource to know where Sprint sites/towers are located and what phase they are at for Network Vision (Sprint's 4G transition program).

Thanks for the welcome.  Good to hear that the voice network quality is good.  Like I said, both my wife and I have access to wi-fi at work and home, and that is where we spend most of our time.  Actually right now on VZW we average just over 1GB of data total between the two of us a month.  Their data quality is excellent, I just can't continue to support their business practices with my money.  I have followed Sprint for a while and it seems they are finally getting their act together and are serious about getting their network up to snuff.  Softbank did not dump all the money into Sprint to lose it, so I think everything is looking up and I hope it continues trending that way.

The maps and resources in the sponsor area are a great resource.  My thanks to everybody's hard work for putting that info together.

BTW...what a game yesterday.  I was supposed to go but got tied up.  That to be great being there.

  15. i'm not from omaha but am helping with the spreadsheet and map we are doing to track progress in IA and NE. So others can chime in but here is my 2 cents.

i would say at this moment in time, no i would not make the jump. They are hauling a$$ with installing the new equipment on the towers but everything is just sitting there not being used until samsung decides to send acceptances crews through the area and turn on all the new equipment. We don't know when that will happen, but our best guess would be sometime in the next 3 months.

so your options are to switch now and deal with a roller coaster network, meaning data speeds going from unusable to very usable depending on where you are and watch it get better over the next few months. Or wait until they get further along with the upgrades and switch when its better overall. i've never had a problem with voice/calls on sprint, its just the data speeds that suck.

if you want to become a sponsor of this site you will get access to the sponsor section which is where we are tracking all of the updates, that will give you a lot more info and a much better idea of where things are and where they are heading :)

Thanks for the info.  Data is actually not my biggest concern for the moment as I have Wi-Fi coverage at home and at work.  Just need reliable voice and text as my wife is expecting a baby in December.  I am just really tired of VZW and the nexus7 and nexus 5 situations pushed me over the edge.  In fact I use an iPhone right now on VZW because it's the only phone they can't ruin right now.

And I did chip in to sponsor.  Going to start looking at the data now.  Thanks again!

  16. Hi All,

New to the group.  I have been with Verizon for ages but getting tired of their practices.  I really want a nexus 5 and with a discount I can get through my employer I can save a lot of money from what I am paying VZW right now.  The one thing that concerns me with Sprint is coverage.  At this point do you think the upgrades have come along far enough to make the jump?  I really would love to dump VZW.

    Thanks

    Chris
