Will playing around with the bands through the Nexus 5 app mess anything up when the spark update comes?
-
With my Nexus 5 I've wondered about this. Could my phone issues be the result of a bad phone? Did I get a lemon? I wonder how I could find out?You have to have a bad phone. I heard someone else that had the same issue.

Back-haul is either fiber or some other type of high-speed link for the use of LTE. LTE can't be brought online for tesing or commercial use without the high-speed back-haul in place, you can't use bundled T1 lines for LTE operation. Sprint's legacy CDMA 3G EV-DO uses bundled T1 connections which was perfectly fine 8 years ago.
And yes there can be issues where its difficult to get in contact with the lease/landowner to upgrade a site. If its not that then its a back-haul related issue where ISPs fail to have the new back-haul installed before crews get there to upgrade the site. Crews will still install all the new Network Vision gear and just use the legacy back-haul (T1s) until the high-speed access is brought to the site. Pretty much every Sprint market has ran into constraints where high speed back-haul hasn't been brought to sites, eventually they will get the back-haul its just a matter of when and patience.
Acceptance is where an inspector has signed off on the work that has been done and what can be brought online depends on whether the new back-haul is in place.
Thank you!

I don't know if I'm missing anything or can't find any info but is there a fairly clear and straight forward guide to the steps that towers undergo to be upgraded to 3G and then to LTE?
Is there a way to create such a list or thread for this? If not maybe someone could answer some of my questions that I'm still curious about.
I haven't been able to find out what backhaul means and also when towers are waiting to be upgraded could there be an issue with the equipment vendor or the property owner where the tower resides or government permits to get it upgraded? I'm guessing it could be any of these but are there issues more prevalent in some areas or with Sprint overall?
What is the difference between acceptance and backhaul? Is acceptance when the equipment has been installed and both the vendor approves it and then Sprint approves it?
Thanks in advance for answering these questions and I apologize if they've all ben answered.

One question about the app: I noticed on 3G it shows the name and location (links to Google maps) of the tower under the 1xRTT info, but when connected to LTE it shows sector info but nothing more. Is there a way to show this same location info for LTE or am I missing something?

This app is very cool. Thanks to everyone involved in its creation and feedback.

That's definitely a new NV cabinet. You're likely picking up LTE from another tower in the area.
I'm not too surprised because I am able to pick up a strong 4G signal as I drive up and down Mountain View Corridor. I was going to talk to the business owner that this tower is located on and see if I can get some more info. Even with this tower not done, I'm able to pick up a little 4G in my neighborhood.

This may be a dumb post but I saw this at the nearest tower just today and it looks promising. I'm not sure what it is and I thought you guys could clarify for me. If needed I can get better close up pics. I'm a little confused though because when I took the picture I had my phone on LTE only mode and it was picking up LTE. I only assumed it was for the phone tower because it was right next to it.

Old news
Sprint announced Spark in Salt Lake on February 24th.
Will Sprint do an update to triband phones to enable them to work on Spark officially or did I read info from the past wrong?

This is nice to see. Sprint Spark in Salt Lake. http://newsroom.sprint.com/presskits/sprint-spark.htm

I am a sponsor but sometimes have a difficulty knowing which map is which. Plus a lot of the terminology still confuses me. I have WiFi at home but what happens is as soon as I leave my house and the WiFi is gone the signal drops to almost nothing.
Is there a thread or page on here that explains what backhaul and acceptance are along with step by step details of how each tower is updated?
-
Thanks for all the info. Sorry for getting upset or almost crossing the line. I'll behave better. Just gets frustrating with Sprint sometimes.

I kind of thought the tower nearest me would have been done by now with the SoftBank buyout and their proposed T-Mobile merger. According to Sprint it could take up to 6 months.

I'm having issues with my Nexus 5 with typing and especially the swype feature. I use the stock swype and for the last couple weeks it freezes up a little during typing and does crappy auto corrects? Anyone having this issues?
-
My Nexus 5 has been having weird issues lately. It will switch from the LTE setting to Global and drop from 4G to 3G, always in areas where LTE does exist. I always have to switch it back to LTE and update the PRL and profile. Anyone else having this issue?
-
I'm not sure if any other nexus 5 users have experienced this but often my phone goes from LTE to global. Even with LTE available. Sometimes after I update the roaming and prl.

I had a dream the other night that this happened. Sure there's a lot more work to be done but we're now included on the list from Sprint. http://newsroom.sprint.com/news-releases/sprint-rolls-out-4g-lte-in-more-cities.htm
-
Does Sprint need to have 4G all over Utah before they officially announce that 4G is available?
I kind of assumed that the 4G was going to be done installed by the end of this month. I agree with CG4BYU in that it is still taking some time.

I did figure out how to see which LTE band I'm on through the engineering screen. Even with all the bands enabled I was still only able to get band 25 so I turned the other bands off. Maybe save battery power.
The weird thing is even with the Airave box on the signal still kind of sucks. The signal at my house is now crazy and on the verge of getting LTE as it pops up sometimes. Only a matter of time before it's fully available.

Signal Check in the app store
I got Signal Check Lite but it only shows the strength of the LTE signal. Does the pro version show which bands I'm on?
-
Is there a way to see which LTE bands my phone is picking up at any given time or are the bands all lumped in together? I don't know where to find or decipher that data.
-
Yep, I do. Or try. Without cable or satellite its nice for ESPN.Wait, people still use sprint tv?
-
Anyone have any idea why Sprint TV isn't allowed on the Nexus 5? Maybe it is and I'm missing something. I thought all Sprint users were paying in part to have that feature.

What shocked you?

Too low?

I'm just happy to see it working well in some areas, despite not working too well in other areas. I expected those speeds only on Salt Lake still but the fact that I picked it up this well in Riverton inside a Taco Bell was very pleasant.
After my previous phone I'm happy to get anything above 1-2 mbps.

I'm guessing there's no more word or info about the update? Weird.
