unless you are using your Sprint number as your GV number. there is a known problem. Google has a warning for Sprint users on their own website.

I could try this if I wanted. I have a veriozn s4 and a sprint s4. I could put my sprint s4 sim in the my Verizon s4 and see what happens. but... not sure I want that

I wasn't having issues either until I made an update to Hangouts. seems like Google tried to fix some other issues with Hangouts, and broke something else. like you, I was using Hangouts for a few days without issues.. started falling in love with the setup.. then all crazineess started happening. The SMS were fine.. then just today... Three people have said.. " dude. there must be something wrong with your phone.. I am getting duplicate messages from you. Not just 1 or 2... but 6,7,8,etc.. " there was an update last night.. Wonder if what ever they fixed.. They broke something else.

I an bailing out this Sprint Google Voice and Hangouts intergration. Many people have reported that they are receiving any where from 5-10 duplicated messages. Here is what I speculate.... There is a serious bug when you send a GV/hangouts SMS.... every session of Google thatv you have logged in.. Sends out a text message. Any browser and smartphone.. recognizes you send and SMS.... and sends SMS out.. Hangouts can't determine that the SMS has been sent already. That is just my educated guess.. because every Hangouts session I have logged it... that is how many SMS messages the other party gets. I will switch back to my old setup again...

Hangouts was updated again overnight (17th). probably more bug fixes because I didn't notice additional settings. However, receiving MMS, sent to my Sprint GV#, on my Verizon S4 still doesn't work. bummer! Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Too much of a hassle. :-) I just use my S4 to answer the calls...forgeting about hangouts answering the call. Smartphones are supposed to make your life easier, not more complicated. ☺

Its just a bug that will eventually get worked out. Yesterday I sent a text to my daughter. The Hangouts app said I sent the text SIX times. My daughter said she only received one message. In time, I am sure Google will get most bugs worked out. Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Then just remove the dialer. Once I removed the hangouts dialer, the option inside hangouts about answering calls no longer exists.

I use Google Chrome. There is a hangout plugin that allows you to disable notifications for inbound calls.

There is a setting on the browser plug in to not ring for inbound calls. Within Hangouts on the smartphones you can turn that function off as well.

I am assuming you have downloaded the Hangouts Dialer? If so..keep in mind.. the Hangouts Dialer is on its initial release. Probably quite buggy.

I don't like the calling from Hangouts. I like how the Google Voice app let's me choose between Making all calls from my Google Voice number or ask me every time I make a call. This gives me the option to choose from making calls from my Verizon number or my Sprint GV#. If seems to me if I enable the dialer in Hangouts, all my calls will go through Hangouts. Which is not good. The purpose of me getting the Verizon service and my S4 is for rock solid voice/data coverage with no dropped calls and call clarity. I use Wi-Fi Calling with my Sprint S4 720T and VoIP at my job...trust me... making regular calls from Hangouts, after the newness has worn off, will eventually be irritating. Perhaps not... but my experience has been mostly good with Wi-Fi Calling and VoIP, but at times there as been delays and call interference, where the other party has said... "I couldn't hear you, your voice was breaking up." As long as Google keeps the Google Voice App alive and kicking... I will use that for my Voice calling on my Verizon phone and now I will use Hangouts for my SMS.

hangouts was updated again yesterday. I applied the update. the lag on contacts is gone and I can now choose the number that Hangouts (GV# from Sprint) sends the SMS from. Cool. I am using my Verizon S4 and continue to use the Google Voice App to force all calls being made from my Verizon S4 to come from my Sprint GV#. I can send an MMS from Hangouts (on Verizon S4) and it comes from my Sprint GV#, but the picture is not directly displayed to the receiving number. they get an encrypted link, they click the link and the MMS shows fine. So Hangouts sending MMS from my Sprint GV# kinda works. however... receiving MMS in Hangouts (on Verizon S4) with my Sprint GV# does not work. the MMS continue to go to my actual Sprint phone. Has anyone (using a similar setup) gotten the receiving MMS to work tweaking the APN setting inside Hangouts? Sent from my SCH-I545 using Tapatalk

Sprint's 3G has drastically improved with my S4 720T. Pretty good stuff!

Yes, that is correct. Sprint Business accounts can not have GV integration, but accounts with corporate discounts can have GVI.
