  1. I am unsure if that is a caveat or an insult. I am not all that old. But, yes, I was already in college when you were conceived. You just missed a lot of interesting life -- the first Gulf War, Grunge rock, both Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64, "Pulp Fiction," Netscape, etc. And that was only the 1990s, when you were a twinkle in your father's eye or a drooling infant. You really were not cognizant until the 2010s.

In the grand scheme, you are still a baby...

I still have my launch day super Nintendo.

  2. Democrat? Tech in general is more left leaning/liberal friendly but I don't know if I'd agree that they are Democrat conspiracy sites.

The Verge has become more click baity though...maybe because there's profit to be had!

Vox Media is significantly more than The Verge. The main website itself is definitely on the liberal side of the spectrum and their motto of "explain the news" should pretty much sum things up for them.

  3. I just did some further research on The Verge. I think I knew that Comcast has financial influence over Vox Media, which owns The Verge. But I did not realize until now that founder Joshua Topolsky had departed and left The Verge in other editorial hands.

Basically when Vox bought re/code a few months ago, they decided to send the Verge in a more editorial/cultural direction and re/code as the tech reporting site.

  4. Blu doesn't even optimize their phones for US LTE bands when they bring them over. They never have ALL bands that each of the US GSM carriers use. I wouldn't trust them for software updates.

I'm not sure you can call them a manufacturer - they're more like importers. They rebrand phones from other markets.

I should note that Blu is based in Florida. So they are a rare domestic phone manufacturer.
  5. I can't see Comcast being good for any wireless carrier, and whichever carrier they merge with (if they do), is going to have a negative customer outlook towards. Verizon though has been quite similar to Comcast in business operations though, and they've both had a partnership together of sorts, so if Comcast is going to get more seriously involved in wireless, Comcast would be best working with Verizon.

I can see it but in the non Fios areas Verizon is tied up with Centurylink as a package deal (my friend gets a decent discount from his package deal with Centurylink).

The other note is Verizon has already gone down this road with Comcast when they bought out spectrum from the cable companies. They scuttled it then when they decided it wasn't working out for them. Not sure what would change now.

  6. it actually has qc 2.0 and is forward capable with qc 3.0...

The 5 pin structure of micro USB is what holds back the charging rate versus the 24 pins of USB C. I'm not sure what improvements quick charge 3.0 will bring.
  7. That is why I suggest these corporations not try to be what they are not. Just be what they are. Own their identities and locations. There is nothing wrong with that.

Con Agra had one valid reason for moving to Chicago, most of their sub-brands where headquartered in Chicago already. It was a sensible business decision that they needed to consolidate all their brands into one HQ and consolidate management teams. How they went about justifying the move (need to get young and hip talent) was a bad PR move and utter B.S.

  8. 2150mAh battery on an android phone? Come on, HTC.

That's a scary small battery. Especially since it lacks the super quick charge of USB type C.
  9. My reception is fine, it's just the damn mobile radio bug that is killing my battery.

I should say never mind on the B41 issues. I found some in Kansas, Sprint was just in error by saying there was Spark in North Texas, lol.
  10. This, I do not get.

I am hardly a Luddite, nor a cheapskate. In my house, I have tens of thousands of dollars of technology -- including no fewer than half a dozen laptop or desktop computers. None of them have greater than 4 GB of RAM, which should be enough. Software developers are getting fat and lazy -- why so much RAM usage? Pushing 3-4 GB on smartphones, are you kidding me? Or are you users running too many simultaneous apps? You do not have to do that. As the famous doctor joke goes, "Well, stop doing that."

The Snapdragon 808 and 810 chipsets already incorporate Category 9 Snapdragon X10 basebands on die. Are you instead thinking of the the Snapdragon X12?

The biggest issue for me is the fragmenting of the messaging ecosystem. Facebook, WhatsApp, Kik, Snapchat, etc, I have them all on my phone to keep in touch with people. So all of them running in the background with a couple of chrome tabs (hardly a RAM efficient browser) eats up all my RAM. I would love one messaging app to cover them all, but it hasn't happened.
  11. I don't want a bump for the sake of a bump. What do you need? I need to 2GB for what I do. Some may need more, I suppose.

    Using Tapatalk on BlackBerry Z30

I have 6 messaging apps that all run in the background, thanks to a fragmented ecosystem (not counting SMS). That alone consumes a lot of RAM. Add in a couple tabs on chrome and all that RAM is needed.
  12. That would be true if Qualcomm actually did something to improve the efficiency in the earlier batch of 810 chips that were displaying poor battery efficiency. You do make a good point though, if it was soooo bad that it was to be absolutely avoided, then why were there still some OEMs particularly Chinese OEMs and Sony phones that decided to use the 810 chip to power the phones. I am just worried on how the 810 chip will affect the Nexus phone.

Plus Qualcomm has been constantly mentioning how release 2 of the 810 is significantly better, the phone will probably have release 2 so hopefully a big improvement.
  13. So sprint has some roaming coverage in West West Virgina and some in East Ohio.

Who is this Provider? Is that Shentel's market? Looking at USCC map, they do East Weste Virginia so it isn't USCC. Having looked at USCC map, looks like they are about done with the LTE upgrades.

Ntelos (now Shentel) had some coverage in those areas you're mentioning.
  14. They'll probably be forced to as they'll be dumped to whoever else is the other roaming partner there... Probably Verizon.

    Sent from my Nexus 5

I was thinking as opposed to just going to no service there rather than roaming on Verizon. There is one other option, the article did mention that Silver Star is part of Sprints program, maybe they could acquire the assets and continue the existing arrangement.
