  1. Hey, it seems like you guys are the local Sprint experts. I recently moved to SW Michigan in-between Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Battle Creek and Lansing. We currently have Verizon  but we are looking to switch to sprint. I'm wondering how much the Sprint Vision upgrade will improve coverage. It looks like Sprint is working on network upgrades in my area, there is LTE service within a mile of my house (we're rural) so I assume towers on our north east near Lansing have been upgraded and towers on our South West have yet to be upgraded. We don't know anyone with Sprint so current actual coverage is a guess. Thanks for any information you have.

So with the maps... if the site is not "in progress" are they not going to upgrade or not upgrading at this time? Is sprint going to add 800 to all their sites?

I guess I'm confused by the maps, can anyone give a better description of the sponsor maps and what Sprint is doing, or is a more detailed description already posted somewhere?

There is a separate map (actually several) with all the Sprint Towers in the sponsor' section (that you can see). The main map only shows sites that have been accepted or marked in progress. Sites marked in progress come from member reporting that work is going on. All 38 thousand sites will be receiving NV upgrades. There are around 100 won't be receiving LTE upgrades, there is a thread in the sponsor's section that discusses them, but they should be receiving all the other upgrades.

As for the sites not completed around you, work may have already started. If not they should probably start soon since Michigan was one of the earlier markets.

Sensorly may help you determine what coverage looks like in your area but since you are rural it may only give a partial idea.

  2. As far as we know, since Samsung had Dual-Mode WiMax/TD-LTE RRU's out before Ericsson got their TD-LTE RRU's approved, that all the 8 TD-LTE markets are using Samsung equipment. However, none of us know for 100% certainty. Some of them could be Ericsson, but then those Clearwire sites would have multiple RRU's per sector, one for Wi-Max, and one for TD-LTE.

Aren't they also considering using NSN for some TD-LTE sites?

    Clear as mud.

  3. Hard to say people have found full build's all over the place, maybe we will wake up one morning and they will all be live but I am not going to hold my breath.

In Kent county almost all the sites are full builds, I really expected more GMOs. A few of them I have recently learned have fiber within maybe 200 feet of them. There potentially could be many LTE sites in Delaware in a short manner of time...

  4.  Site at Rt4 And Rt72 is a full build. But the Nextel antennas are still in place.

The active LTE site still has the Nextel antennas in place. Several sites around Dover still have Nextel equipment in place too. There might be one that has had them removed. They don't seem to be in a hurry around here to remove it. However I am noticing more and more NV sites where they have removed the Sprint legacy equipment.

  5. It may be.

I am simply suggesting that, since they are upgrading existing clear sites to lte, and seem to be using dual mode radios, they can simply let wimax stay active until it breaks down or some other upgrade supersedes it.

In other words, there is no cost to leave wimax active longer if it is all being integrated with lte anyway. They can keep existing clear customers up and not risk losing them to other providers by force interrupting their existing clear service.

    Exactly.

  6. I have the feeling that wimax service may be left up for several more years, since they are deploying dual mode and have plenty of 2600 spectrum, at least for the immediate future.

This way they save any forced migration costs and let existing wimax users ride out the lifetime of their device if they so choose, sprint will continue getting paid for wimax service the same as lte..

It wouldn't suprise me if this is the case.

Do we have any verification of any new 2500 sites receiving dual mode equipment? Or any new 2500 sites yet for that matter?
