  1. Drove around Boston today and noticed VZW small cells in some of the more suburban areas of Boston and Brighton as well as in Cambridge. While they weren't stealth setups like the ones in NYC are, they still weren't that easy to spot and often times I'd just notice it by seeing more wires than usual on the telephone polls.

I'm uncertain whether Sprint has started deploying small cells widely in the Greater Boston area but they could certainly use it in places like Newton where site density isn't the greatest even though speeds are more than adequate.

VZW small cells around here (Baltimore) follow a similar pattern, more suburban areas and inconspicuous but not stealth.

  2. At beach and band 41 was swamp , it was maxout on band 41 with 2 carrier agg . I only got .50 mbps on that sector , going away i got 50 mbps down . Ocean City MD

That sounds about right. This is probably the first time that the network in OC has been stressed with all the sites on air. If Sprint is paying attention (and Ericsson isn't lying and saying everything is fine) hopefully they will realize they need to deploy some small cells (and convert the old Nextel site at the south end) in Ocean City.

    Maybe next year.....

  3. I found another live site on the Eastern Shore. I didn't get a screenshot (I was thinking this wasn't anything new when I saw it on the phone), but I did leave a Sensorly streak. It was one of the sites in the cluster along US-301 headed toward DE.

I wouldn't be to surprised to find that more of those sites in that area are now live. I will be back there tomorrow or Wednesday to investigate further.

  4. This is why I have been lobbying mikejeep to switch from, for example, "^²" to "#2" -- or something similar.

I fully respect precedent and continuity.  But we seem to run into this carrier aggregation misunderstanding or misrepresentation far too often.

I'd prefer to see the format BXX2 myself, but BXX#2 would be just as helpful for people to make the distinction between a second carrier and carrier aggregation.

  5. With its financial problems Sprint only needs sure products on their shelfs (IPhone, Galaxy and the note lines).

Sprint network is improving, but it's balance sheet is a mess. The previous management didn't fix the network or the company financial problems, they just kicked the can down the road.

Completely disagree. They significantly cleaned up the mess that Gary Forsee left.

  6.

I might be able to swing by there at some point. So far the only small/pico sites I have seen around Baltimore have been Verizon.

  7. I'm wondering if anything south of Wilmington has even seen any optimization. My friend @ Dover AFB has terrible LTE and he's pretty much line-of-sight to a triband LTE site there.

It seems promising that Delaware will get some love this year now that a few random southern sites have finally gotten LTE. Optimization hopefully isn't too far off once a few more of these are lit up. This will be a killer market with B26 turned up due to the flat geography. B41 at the beaches would be nice, but even having B25/26 activated will be a huge difference. (Not holding my breath on 41 anytime soon)

I usually have usable LTE at Dover AFB (and that is despite the fact they haven't touched the Sprint site on the base, I assume some hang up with getting permits from the Air Force). Unless it is the time of day, I don't normally find myself there during working hours during the week.

Look at the coverage Smyrna has and that is from only two sites. I don't think they need to do that in Dover, they need to add a few sites inside the city and add a few on the peripheries (Those outside sectors could be tuned for distance though). I also think they need to begin adding sites in Smyrna, there is all ready significant development there and more has been approved, just not built yet.

The beach sites need B41 and two B25 carriers (though a single 10 MHz would be better) and B26, at least during the tourist season. And the beaches need more sites, both macro and pico. The numbers of users in an area like that are probably staggering.

  8. Wow, just downloaded Sensorly to confirm this. It looks like all of the 1x800-only sites are LTE now in DE, including the one behind Henlopen Station @ Rehoboth.

The site right on the boardwalk probably won't be touched since it's a 3G-only site with no 1x800, but maybe this is reason to get our hopes up now. :-)

There is one site with 1x800 that doesn't have LTE in DE(that I can think of), the one in Frederica. But I would say nearly every full build site has LTE now.
