I'm considering replacing my Note 5 with the Bolt. I read the posted opinions, but now that it's a few months since release, any changed opinions? How is the battery life holding up?
My Bolt was working great until the screen went dead (seems like an occasional HTC issue for several models). Before that happened I thought it was a really nice phone, I do need to get around to getting it fixed/replaced though. My biggest grip is it isn't a stripped down android OS (I really grew to like that).
Hopefully the bolt is better than this Crap A9 I have. I wish I never bought it. I wanna go back to Samsung.

I actually like my A9. The only grip I have is the same one I have with the Bolt. I might consider an LG, but never Samsung again...

That looks a lot like the Verizon small cells that are all around Baltimore (minus the brown paint).

Sprint gives more land to shentel

Excellent.

Nextel always sounded like a better brand than Sprint. But unfortunately Nextel will always be synonymous with *chirp chirp*.

Can we
complain thatdebate the question of has this thread run its course? -
Just noticed something unusual...looks like at least some of the sites may be getting Ericsson B41 equipment (RRUS 82) in lieu of the standard Nokia equipment. Is this just a typo on the building permit summary (attached), or is Ericsson gear actually being deployed?
Link to FCC RRUS 82 B41 testing documentation:
Interesting. I don't know if its a typo or not, but I could see a scenario where that is possible.

Keep from derailing the thread people.

I thought this thread derailed a long time ago....it is like the junk drawer of S4GRU, just throw whatever into it.

I am sure its nice to respond with discount promotions, but the thing is Verizon got the network and Unlimited data for 80 dollars is a big deal.
Yes. And Sprint needs to offer the same at $60/month.
If they want to continue to run with their all networks are basically similar theme that they have been touting for the last several months and give people confidence that they (Sprint) believe that (and in turn believe in the product they are selling), they don't need to go to $60/month, match the terms and offer it at $70 or $75 a month.
And keep investing in the network....

What is the amount of spectrum Openmobilepr... pcs and lte..?
Openmobile had 15MHz of PCS (The C1 Block) and 22 MHz of the 700MHz Upper Band. I do not have any information on how much of that they are using for LTE.
Assuming the purchase is approved it would boost Sprint's spectrum position considerable in Puerto Rico. Unless I am mistaken, they currently only have 30 MHz of PCS there.

Yes, they appear have coverage in the interior of the island, though some of it looks to be 3G.

Thanks, I took a few blind (I know almost no Spanish) stabs at links on their site but missed. I imagine those towers covering the interior could be upgraded as the networks are integrated.

I couldn't find a coverage map on Openmobile's website. Do they provide coverage in the interior portion of the island where Sprint does not?
The spectrum situation certainly looks much better for Sprint (in PR) with this purchase. If they where really aggressive and decided to run a minimal number of CDMA (2 probably) they could run two 10x10 Band 25 LTE carriers. Hopefully they keep the 700 MHz license as well, it would be beneficial for several reasons: The initial transition for existing Openmobile customers, the roaming revenue from Verizon customers visiting the Island, it provides another 10x10 LTE carrier for capacity, and it solves the low band problem that Sprint has in this market (although it would be unavailable to most (or all) of Sprint's current customers initially).

Can we have a separate thread for the completely baseless merger speculation please? This thread is unwieldy even without that.

English article. Good move as Sprint won't use cash and gain subscribers, coverage and spectrum.

Thank you for the link to an English article!

I see a lot of talk about mergers.. does anyone think competition is healthy enough that all 4 carriers can run on their own ? I don't think we need a sprint/ T-Mobile merger.

It is pure speculation, that has been running amok for a while. I would agree with your statement that a Sprint/T-Mobile merger (or any other combination of the big 4) is unnecessary. Now Sprint and USCC (or any other remaining regional carrier) would be interesting.

I broke down and picked up a Bolt. For me the reception so far has been as good or better than the Nexus 5. It certainly does have some bloat, but I have removed several apps that where installed on it so far without any issues.
WiFi calling is the only thing I have a problem with. Every time I attempt to turn in on, it shuts off as soon as I leave the settings menu...

Why wouldn't you qualify? It's on sale for black Friday. The $50 bill credit was a surprise to me. I was checking out and a box popped up asking if I wanted $50, I clicked yes and it showed up on the order page.

It is only showing the promo pricing if I add another line to my account. If I read the disclaimer right if I would qualify for the promo pricing if I was eligible for an upgrade but I am ineligible to upgrade at this time.
-
Ordered the Bolt in gunmetal today. 50% off promo makes it $12.50/mo and I supposedly get a $10/mo loyalty service credit on top of that according to the checkout and email receipt. Also got a $50 bill credit, free activation and overnight shipping for ordering online.
Wish I qualified for the promo pricing! I don't know if I want to pay $600 for one, but $300 I would pull the trigger. Looking forward to a review!

Proly upgraded that tower for 301 coverage, poly won't see the tower's in Cecilton and Hack's Point upgraded anytime soon.
That would make sense. It makes me wonder if they might also have started upgrading some of the GMO's along Rt-1, US-13, and US-113 in the market. I will have to make an effort to look next time I am back in the area.

But didn't someone above suggest that there should be 13 small cells in Baltimore deployed? Are you not seeing/hearing them?
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I haven't seem them. They may very well be out there though as I can't necessarily look everywhere. I also haven't had the time to comb through my SCP logs either.

Mind elaborating why you think Mobilitie was a bad choice as vendor?
At this time it is mostly a gut feeling. Other than a few sites in the LA area, there doesn't seem to be much movement anywhere else from them either. There was apparently one site here in Baltimore that they where fined for installing without a permit (and I believe had to remove) a while back, but beyond that nothing that I have been able to come across that suggest they are making any progress. That said I want to be positive about them but it would help to see some indication that progress is being made.
-
Not to the Harbor specifically. I concentrated my last trip around Little Italy and Fells Point and then some of the neighborhoods to the east and north of there.
-
After a couple of a drives through various urban and suburban areas of Baltimore I think I am about ready to come to three conclusions.
1. Mobilitie was a bad choice as vendor.
2. Verizon's small cell deployment in Baltimore is impressive (although they don't yet appear to be done).
3. AT&T & T-Mobile don't seem to be doing anything around here with small cells.

Fair enough, the battery isn't that great (the Bolt's is much better). I guess it just hasn't really bothered me much...
